I'm probably going to be pushed off the platform for saying this, seeing as everyone on the internet right now outright hates them, but I really like Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, and feel like they're the first actual good pokemon games in years. From what I've played, I've thoroughly enjoyed, even with the technical flaws present. I also kind of feel like, at least from what I've played, the technical issues are pretty massively overblown in a way. Sure, you have the performance issues (which is pretty much determined to be memory leak issues that you can fix by saving and quitting the game), but as for massive bugs, I haven't really come across that many. Not to the extent that I keep seeing people claim online at least. The worst I've had was like a crash at the electric gym, and then reality blipping away twice towards the beginning.

Again, I'm pretty much awaiting comments from people telling me that this isn't acceptable, or that I should feel bad for enjoying the games, given that's pretty much what I've been told ever since I got my copy yesterday, but I just still feel like the gameplay and story really outshine all the issues on the technical side of things.

@VoidofLight I mean I probably won't buy the game, but I fully believe that it's better than all the mainline Pokémon games in recent years. I don't know about New Pokemon Snap or Arceus since I haven't played that or Scarlet/Violet, but still, Scarlet and Violet are probably better than Sword and Shield.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAy there.

Pokemon games shouldn't be in their current form. I'm not exactly sure what form they should be in, but I feel like the traditional Pokemon formula isn't lining up well with a 3D open world. I don't like the "flurry of Pokeballs" gameplay of Arceus, but I feel like it's a better fit for the format than a game about turn-based level grinding. I think maybe the Let's Go feature should have been the only method of battling random Pokemon: it's kind of annoying to have to stop moving. Instead of every turn in the battle being a separate decision give us "strategies" we can plan ahead of time. And a 3D open world should be about the avatar/PC doing the platforming: they shouldn't just be a rider of the actual terrain explorer.

@SilvercatMoonpaw Sv’s format works extremely well for the open world.

I still don't feel excited with DLC Booster Wave 3 from Mario Kart as I felt the business practice like that by overmilking one franchise was not quite right.
Pokemon Scarlet / Violet was the first game I suddenly have bad impression after I saw the unprofessionalism from Gamefreak in making the game and I changed my mind to not getting the game, I will consider Pokemon clones instead (Yokai Watch games, Nexomon, etc) for better ideas.
I have never shown a dissatisfaction like that before.

@Anti-Matter It’s Mario kart, and the dlc is vary cheap for what you get tbh, sure they are dragging it out, and yes the stages are not of the same quality, but for the price, the amount of stages, with said stages looking just fine, on top of them being fun to play! I think it’s worth it, but people money are peoples money, might not be to others.

Pokémon diamond and pearl remakes where just fine, they were enjoyable, and they stayed really true to the originals, gamrefreak passed the remake up to another company, which, kinda sucks since they took all the heat, and all they did was remake it. Sure they could have changed stuff here and there, but for someone who never played them before, I had a blast. Oh and sword and shield where fun Pokémon games, not perfect, but I do think they are enjoyable.

@Snatcher
I personally do not like a business practice by overmilking one franchise to get more popularity especially when the things that get popular are the not so my favorite as in mind, when the thing got overmilked to become very very popular, my brain will give some contradictive reaction like I don't like too popular things as I consider the too popular things are lame and it makes me see the not so popular / underrated things look better because some of them have hidden quality that will never be same as too popular things.

And for Pokemon stuffs, since I didn't shaped by Pokemon games from my childhood, I started to try to play Pokemon games from Pokemon X 3DS from my curiosity and I didn't really feel excited with the games but I still have some interest after I played other Pokemon games on 3DS. And to see Pokemon Scarlet / Violet have a lot of flaws like that, as a gamer who have pretty low hype with Pokemon franchise, I felt disappointed with the mess like it was really unprofessional to release half baked games like that and only depend on patches and updates to swept the dust under the rugs.
It was lazy effort in my opinion.
I thought the 3rd party or indie developers have more passion and seriousness in making their games despite they are not popular franchise.

Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Brilliant Diamond are really good games. I am very curious how much I will like Pokemon Scarlet. Just a few more weeks.

PS5 games can run on Switch, it's just really hard to cram them down for the system, which is why most developers don't do it.

Now PS4 games, absolutely, but I can understand a game like RE2R being hard to port over since it's pretty graphically intensive, but it's still possible.

And don't get me started on Kingdom Hearts, I'm certain that every single game, even KH3, can run on Switch. I'm not breaking new ground with that statement, but I still find it ridiculous that they would even think about not just doing native ports of the Kingdom Hearts games, especially the spin-offs.

So basically, I hate Square Enix.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAy there.

Matt_Barber

Square Enix did get Nier: Automata ported to the Switch, mind you.

I'd speculate that for every such "impossible" port we've seen there will have been many others attempted where the results were either that it turned out that the game just wasn't going to look and play in an acceptable fashion or it would have needed a lot of expensive extra work to make it that way. For games that aren't going to sell a huge number of copies that threshold could be very low.

It's entirely possible that they tried it that way with KH even, but fell back to the cloud versions when it didn't work out. Mind you, even by the standards of cloud gaming generally, they're apparently pretty rough.

@Anti-Matter I mean, that’s bound to happen tho? People like stuff just as much as you do and when a number of people like a thing, it becomes popular! Are you telling me if your favorite thing became ocular you would hate it all of a sudden?

@EaglyTheKawaiiShika
Depend on the franchises.
There are some very popular franchises that I like since they are really match with my personality such as Harvest Moon / Story of Seasons games, Dance Dance Revolution games, The Sims games despite if they are being measured by other popular franchises, they still have pretty small portion compared with Uber popular games such as smash bros games, splatoon games, Zelda games, etc.

@Matt_Barber Square Enix is the most conflicting company. On one hand, they made some good looking games and ports like Nier on Switch and Octopath Traveler. But on the other hand, they were too lazy to port 3DS Kingdom Hearts games and had a hand in Balan Wonderworld.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAy there.

@Snatcher
"Are you telling me if your favorite thing became popular you would hate it all of a sudden?"

No, since I like the specific franchises, regardless of suddenly become very popular someday, I will not hating them all of sudden since the franchises I like are really matched with my personality.
I will get even more hyped when the franchises I like get more popularity and peoples will start to talk more about the franchises I like.

@Anti-Matter But not the other way around? But hey you can like whatever you like and dislike whatever you like.
