NintendoLife is an unimaginative name…

@Takoda I will never truly know, but I can almost guarantee that I would dispose color splash and sticker stars combat. I love card games, but the way they did it feels so shallow, and so boring!

@jump Psst. You can’t say that, they might take you NL card away.

Nintendo are like woman, You love them for whats on the inside, not the outside…you know what I mean! Luzlane best girl!

Both BOTW and Spider-Man are on my list catchily titled 'But aren't these basically just modern Ubisoft games that everyone is highly critical of? Like both are great games, but come on now, we don't need to throw around #masterpeice just because one is made by Nintendo and the other by Sony'.

I've personally had far more fun with Ghost of Tsushima and Cyberpunk 2077 than either of those titles.

You can also add the God of War remake to my list of, "yeah the game is great but calling it a '#masterpiece' is going a little far"

Oh, and finally, no hyperbole, warts and all, Yakuza: Like a Dragon is probably the best game I have played since Red Dead Redemption 2. Now those are what masterpieces look like.

Pokemon gen I (Red/Blue in particular) remains my favourite way to experience Kanto.

Maybe it's nostalgia, but a lot of the charm of this region comes from the "early-installment weirdness" of Gen I - whether this is battle system quirks (the special stat, OP psychic or broken mechanics like high-crit moves and sleep), the off-model sprites, the darker tone, or just the relative simplicity/archaism of the games. These are mostly qualities that weren't quite captured in the Kanto remakes. I'm especially disappointed that both pairs of remakes didn't take advantage of the expanded Pokedexes of later games, instead forcing the player to stick to the original 150 Pokemon.

That said, the remakes have a lot going for them (FRLG has the gen 3 mechanics and IMO feels like the most "complete" version of Kanto; LGPE is a stunning reimagining of Kanto in 3D). FRLG was even my favourite Pokemon game for a brief period of time.

Unpopular opinion: The breakable weapon concept in BOTW is a garbage mechanic

@mikegamer What's the unpopular part of you post?

Lol agreed. I think most people dislike it. However, I think it makes sense in botw considering the entire kingdom is there for the taking( Go anywhere/do anything). I thought finding new weapons was always a fun little time.

StarPoint

@mikegamer How is that unpopular?

I feel like I share the unpopular opinion in that I actually really like the durability system, even though it could have used a bit more refinement. But I've played through the game like 4 times now so I don't even think about the durability of weapons anymore.

@StarPoint
That was the reason I sold my BOTW last year.
I'm done with BOTW.
Breakable weapons, easily to get killed, easily to get lost in the wild, being clueless, etc.
Terrible.
No more zelda games.
I bought BOTW in a whim and I realized I bought a wrong game.
I would rather play something else, anything but zelda games.
That zelda games will not make me feel like a gamer.

It's kind of hard to get lost in botw. And there's not much to be clueless about really. I'd say it's the most accessible zelda game ever.

@StarPoint I enjoyed the durability system too. It pushed me to get creative and try out all types of weapons, so at one point durability stopped mattering. I can see why others dislike it though, and I agree it could've used some improvement. Really really hope they make it better in TOTK.

Durability system is always a pain but it encourages you to always try new weapons and continually flush the weaker ones out. The early game you do it the most since each weapon you find for the first few hours is probably gonna be stronger than the one you have equipped. Good design.

@Anti-Matter If it helps, BotW is very different to the rest of the Zelda series. The other games don't have breakable weapons and are much more linear so you're unlikely to get lost. You might like Wind Waker or Minish Cap if you gave them a chance.

Thank you Nintendo for giving us Donkey Kong Jr Math on Nintendo Music

@Anti-Matter
Breath of the wild, while I love the game, is nothing like the rest of the Zelda series. Have you tried Links Awakening or The Wind Waker at all?

@mikegamer
I think weapon durability is fine. I think it helps with progression a lot. Early game you need to find different ways to fight each battle. And you are rewarded when you eventually get the master sword and have a full inventory of Savage Lynel swords.

An actual Unpopular opinion: I think the weapon system in BotW is good, and people are just complaining because it isn't a Zelda game with permanent-use weapons.

"It is fate. Many have tried, yet none have ever managed to escape it's flow."

Ralizah

@VoidofLight Well, the way weapons are handled is pretty unusual for the type of game it is. I also think it's handled well, though. I especially missed BotW's system after drowning in largely pointless weapons in Elden Ring and The Witcher 3 that were never used.

@VoidofLight Yeah I agree, weapons were basically thrown at you so I didn't really care about the durability from what I played.

Good... good
Now play Dragon Quest

Magician

I've always viewed item durability as a means to pad a game's length towards completion. Leave an avenue to replace the old with something more useful, sure. But rewards and gains should never be taken from a player. Unless we're talking about roguelikes, where a failed run requires players to start the whole game from zero.

Even where item degradation is part and parcel to a game's looping design. Minecraft, Dying Light, Fallout, Animal Crossing, etc. The upkeep is an annoyance. It detracts from the overall experience. It's needless busywork. If I want to swing a twig from the beginning of a game to the end of said game...allow me to do that.
