In Pokemon and the Legend of Zelda, why doesn't anyone lock their doors? There are theives in pokemon! And don't villagers know that Link is going to smash their pots?
Also, in pokemon, you find medication in the trash and then feed it to your pet. In what world is that okay?!
Don't question it.
Just be thankful doing it benefits you and that no one ever retaliates.
Otherwise you'd get kicked out of the city/village for breaking pots and entering, oh and for stealing garbage and feeding it to enslaves animals that have supreme power.
Video game logic.
I feed my poogeymanz trash candy and they get strong. :3

Yeah, people could lock their doors but then you won't have any idle chit-hat with everybody. Plus some people store some great loot in their houses. I'm gonna save the world or country or whatever so I think that I'm a higher priority than them.
I'm the type who takes anything that's not nailed down in games. So on the one dock in Tales of Eternia I did my usual thing but when you go to leave the guy demands that you pay for what you stole. If you don't pay the price you lose the item until you see it in a shop a fair bit later. The guy doesn't charge extra by the way.
