@Rocketship No worries. It was a thread which needed to be made. Reports today claim he did it all alone. No one else was part of planting the bomb or anything. What a Monster.

It's madness over here. The major Norwegian channels have pretty much covered it 24/7. I still can't really believe that this is all happening. On Friday, I remember turning on the telly to check how we were doing in Tour de France, and instead I read the words "EXPLOSION IN OSLO". And all I could do was watch. Then it became clear that a couple of people had died. Then the police confirmed that it was a bomb. My Dad works in Oslo (in delivery service. And it was not out of the question that he might have been at the crime scene), so I was worried, but it turns out he hadn't even noticed anything. Thank God.

I know this is horrible, but I was kind of relieved. I mean, obviously this must've been some kind of twisted warning, right? Because this happened at like 3.20 PM on a Friday in the summer, which fortunately meant that the death toll wasn't too high (even though it's awful that anyone died at all). And then... we slowly got news about something else; the shooting on Utøya. No one had any idea if these events were even connected. The number of bodies just seemed to increase. At one point, a witness told the news that there were at least 20-30 bodies there (which made me yell "What?!" at the TV screen). The next day, I woke up to the news that were more than 80 dead bodies.

This is just so... wow. I never believed anything like this could happen here. It's Norway, for crying out loud! Honestly one of the safest, most peaceful countries in the world. I still can't believe one man was behind all of this. One man. It's insane. Or he's insane. Or... I don't know. I just hope nothing like this will happen ever again. Anywhere. And I hope that pathetic excuse for a human being never gets out of prison.

Wow! I can't believe my eyes! This is so wrong how these people come and shot and bomb all these places and kill so many people when the people have not done one thing to these terrorist, how can any human being be so evil and cruel to do such a thing as this!?
I pray and Hope that the families will make it through this hard time at the loss of they're love ones. I also Pray that they will not find more dead bodies but people still alive.
This thread is about the tragedy in Norway. Don't try to make it about something unrelated in America plz — TBD

@Stine I think its terrible. Whats even worse is that the Amy Winehouse death is getting more attention today. Thats terrible, How can one person over dosing on drugs even be considered to 90 deaths from one murderer its unspeakable.

Not to sound too callous, but this kind of thing happens every other year in the US (I'm an American residing in Norway, btw), so I'm kinda used to it. I think the thing that bothered me the most was the way the authorities handled it.
According to experts it would take about 500kg of manure and a bunch of diesel to make a bomb big enough to do the kind of damage it did. That's not a lot unless you plan to plant it in a government building and leave it there long enough to make a getaway. Sure, the building was pretty much empty thanks to it being the height of vacation season, but there still should have been enough security around to find it. Then, once the shooting started on the island it took them an hour to get there. I understand that nothing like this has happened here before, but they should be trained to tackle anything that might come up. I know in the US the fuzz is all over a gunman in about 10 minutes. This guy would have gotten maybe 10-20 victims in that time.
And, when the media got a hold of the story, NRK (the government-owned news/general interest TV network here) started CALLING PEOPLE ON THE ISLAND. While the shooting was going on. We still don't know how many people were exposed thanks to this, but one guy (the one who let this story out) lucked out and had his phone on silent.
And now you're getting the police force coming on TV saying they think they did pretty good, only getting there in just under an hour. I really think they should be apologizing instead of patting themselves on the back. I understand that they have a small police force, but you can't ever think "this won't happen to us."
This really was a tragedy, though. My heart goes out to the victims' families. I still haven't gotten to go to work yet, so I don't know if anybody I know has been affected, but I can say that I'm glad the train tracks were under construction or there would have been more people in the city that day.
Also, it was my 6th wedding anniversary and my wife and I would probably have been eating dinner in one of the buildings whose windows were blown out

Okay, firstly, Amy Winehouse had a massive impact across the world. Some people hated her for her drug use, and with that usage being placed in the spotlight more than her talent was, it sent a message out to those who use. I'm not saying she is the person to address the issue of drugs, but for a few certain people, she would have helped them stray away from drug use. Also, she was a talented musician, and when your famous, it attracts attention.

The reason it is drawing the attention away from the event is Norway is for multiple reasons. When Australia had the shootings in Tasmania, the Black Saturday bushfires, or the Queensland floods, it usually is the third story in America/Britain/where ever else in the world. If a big country has an attack like on the scale of this, similar to the London bombings, then it will mostly be the first story run. Yet Norway is not a powerhouse of a country, and it might be massive in and around Norway, but It doesn't really affect America, or Australia. Yes it's tragic, and yes it will be brought up every year for the memorial, but news doesn't stop when there is an attack like this. The world keeps moving.

Just like when Michael Jackson died.
Farrah Fawcett dies on the same day and was overshadowed by MJ's death.

I just heard a news report on NPR about the mad man who performed this attack.
The man says he carried out this attack because he wanted Norway to take action against Islamic Terrorist. Does he even realise that in so doing he himself has become a TERRORIST?

What madness! Can Satan cast out Satan? Can one fight evil with evil? The man must be mentally unstable. May God bless the people of Norway in this sad tragedy.

I've seen the news of this over all of the morning papers and in the headlines of online news sites but the death of Amy Winehouse has been pushed back for the most part. A rare show of perspective by the press for the most part.

In most cases (and with all due respect to Amy Winehouse... I have nothing against her and am sorry about her death), the death of one celebrity will get far more attention than of dozens of people unknown to the world. A qualifier to that statement: Unless the tragedy happens in a big city.

It's a sad fact that however important you or your work is, compared to someone who has gained fame (whether good or bad), a regular individual is irrelevant in this world (except to immediate family and their circle of friends/acquaintances). Perhaps modern media and the celebrity frenzy is to blame for this, and people feel they are obligated to care for an object of media attention. I'll leave that to people trained in psychiatry.

Hard to see what's more telling than the fact that a reality TV star with no real talent or claim to fame can make millions while a schoolteacher makes peanuts comparatively and struggles to get by in this economy (a schoolteacher & his family across the street from me lost their home). I know GOOD people whose own family doesn't care if they breathe, but there are complete strangers who want to help Casey Anthony in any way they can.

These are the misplaced priorities of human beings, that a flavor-of-the-month actress can conceivably be more revered than the would-be curer of cancer. Truth be known, it's time for God (if there is one) to turn the world back over to the animals. Of course, I think animals are more human than the actual humans.

My heart goes out to the family and victims of this psychopathic extremist.

Wanna hear some irony in this? I was working at a summer camp in Arkansas when both of them died. I had the radio on and I heard about Farrah Fawcett's death and thought it was tragic. I NEVER heard about Michael Jackson's death at all until my mom called me two weeks later to tell me the news. At the same time I heard about Billy Mayes's death as well.

I love living in a little bubble where the only source of news is a radio station

Your right about not wanting to watch the news. I don't care to watch the news because they have so many negative reports on the news channels, its so depressing and causes problems for your household as well.

But my parents make me watch the crappy news but when I do have the chance to decide if I want to watch it or not I choose not to watch it because there are so many deaths and people being massacred by a inhuman who is a terrorist.

I think if the news media did not cover so much of the terrorist they would stop all of the bombings and shootings that are happening because they would not have anyone to see it or hear about it, so they're missions would be a complete failure.

Hey guys I didnt mean to offend with my Amy Winehouse comments. It was a strong opinion and no offense was intended.
Also I dont believe the man deserves to die I believe no company except silent police guards, locked behind doors 24 hours a day and 21 years of that over and over again should do the trick. Dying would be the easy way out.
The man needs to live up to what he did and face the consequences.

The existence of and power held by radicals like him (radicals like the Norwegian shooter I might add) is one very big reason America is going downhill like a California mudslide. People like him instigate people like the lunatic responsible for these deaths. It's debatable whether the Giffords shooting in Arizona that claimed several lives was the result of violent political rhetoric. People like Beck are creating a toxic environment that's going to breed more violence! I'd keep going, but I know I can't, so I'll leave it at that.

I was shocked to hear that the max sentence in Norway is 21 years. That's a lot of murdered people for only 21 years in prison. nuance: unless at the end of his sentence a judge thinks he may do it again

What makes me wonder is the picture you were able to see in the newspapers. The photo shows the prime minister of Norway visiting the camp where Breivik decided to kill later. In the background of the screen you can see 2 childs holding up a "Boikott Israel" banner.

I guess the 2 boys are around 8-10years old. It is really confusing to me how 2 childs of that age already know about why its "important" to boycot Israel or why it is not...you see? I dont think childs are able to overview such an high explosive and problematic political circumstance. Someone had to hand them those banners before the prime minister arrived and before the photo has been taken. Im shocked about such "summer camps" (thats the description the german news told us to believe), as well as Im shocked about the killer that killed so much innocent childrens.

Grammar errors? We could use the german language instead of the english one of course - do you dare? ;)
