Here, we talk about our favourite games, our memories of those games, stories of our experiences of those games, etc. Just a bunch of stuff.

One of my favourite games when I was younger was Pokémon Sun. It was actually my first Pokémon game, and I probably played that thing to death. I also remember hating Gladion with a passion and loving my Decidueye, Alex and my distraught when I accidentally freed him in a pokemon center haha

Let's cast "Resurrection" on that thread!

The Guild

And in that regard, I feel really sorry for the people who did not play in the 00s MMO scene. Those first 2 WoW expansions and the community there was awesome! You had to communicate with people, and I fondly remember my raiding nights! It is quite sad when I log in and see the "Offline since" next to my friends list names

Also does anyone remember Project Lore just before the start of Wrath of the Lich King? Also, big WoW nostalgia hit ...

@Zuljaras I HATE WoW, they stole all my friends from EverQuest
Yes that is how old I am, when the original playing screen was like this:
Untitled
I also used to write stories in regards to my Guild Raids.
But then WoW poached most of my friends and I just gave up

Completely agree. Vanilla and first two expansions were magical. It was the time, the technology of the era, and what WoW represented. I enjoyed Classic but it wasn’t the same. Not because I’m familiar with the material but because the cultural context no longer exists. Some games really are timeless I feel, but WoW very much had an era.

I have very fond memories of Sun/Moon. I’ve played Pokémon since Red/Blue and was skeptical going into Moon as an adult. It took me back to the great feels of the past and I really enjoyed the whole festival plaza social aspect too. Also, wonder trading a magikarp while hoping for something rare never got old…especially when the other person did the same to you! Two swindlers each holding a magikarp! 😂

Our N64 was hooked up to the TV in my older brother's room, and I have a few hazy memories about a couple of Saturdays during my youth where he'd be staying the night elsewhere so I'd try staying up all night playing it.

I think on one such occasion I played through the entirety of Kirby 64: the Crystal Shards.

Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)

I'm not sure we need a nostalgia thread on a Nintendo forum. That seems redundant. :V

But if I were to bring up anything specific, I remember N64 where I could play a game and it would sometimes have someone else's file, because memory cards were not a thing on it. Which meant, if I sucked at a game for example, I could explore later areas of a game I couldn't actually get to. Which lead to hilarious things like when I beat OOT before I beat the first dungeon. It's also the only way I could play past level 4 of Banjo Kazooie because I had no idea how to unlocked Freezeezy Peak. Made renting games more interesting and less likely for me to only get to play the first hour of a game.

That and cheat codes to me are the defining parts of game that just don't exist anymore (there are some exceptions but they are rare, and AFAIK mostly indie).

@Zuljaras I have recently gone back to WoW after a 10 year break and you are absolutely right. The whole community aspect of WoW and even most MMOs are gone now its all about the raids and how uber you can make your characters. No one really does the events anymore and most people do raids via raid finder and pugs. Even if you look at the raid recruiting section on WoW's site most of it is for people who want to build raid teams I dont see hardly any social/community guilds anymore.

Everyone treats MMOS as single player games now and the group aspect as an afterthought, its sad really. Whats funny is I even got into a discussion on Pure Xbox with another user trying to explain how an MMO works, and they just kept telling me that they shouldn't charge people for Raids and Group activities that it should be DLC for those who want to do it. The community thing is what I enjoyed the most out of WoW when I previously played now it just doesn't exist.

Even now I finished the storyline of The War Within which dont get me wrong was quite good but now there just doesnt seem to be anything for me to do. Even if say I was grinding out crafting I would still chat with others in my guild while they did other things breaking up the grind and making it tolerable. Heck playing with others could even be a reason to start crafting for some people.

I just think honestly its the way the world is in general now. People in general are just not as socialable as the once were and especially in gaming.

But yeah I too miss the old days of WoW and MMOs in general.

@kkslider5552000 The joys of renting video games back in the day. I remember whenever my brother and I rented a game with a battery back up like The Legend of Zelda or Dragon Warrior we would always check the save files first to see where they were in the game. Thats was how I first found out that there was a Dark World in A Link the the Past back in the day.

@Tasuki Speaking of rental video stores, there'd used to a video store in Newport News called "Movie Scene" back I was living in Williamsburg in 2003. They had "2 for Tuesdays" where'd you rent two movies or 2 games for the price of one.

That & House of Video as well. And Hollywood Video. And PK Video (Pizza King Video). That was a side business for Delaware local pizza, Pizza King. At least until the video rental store business folded-up in 2008-09. It was how I was able to play great GC games that released around that time. Like Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, Super Mario Sunshine, & Pokemon Colosseum. And some N64 games as well too.

Also I have fond memories of playing games all night without my mom knowing (until I fessed-up years later. I remember after renting Luigi's Mansion from Movie Scene (a video rental store in Newport News), I played through almost the whole game up until I got to the point where you finally take on King Boo & his Fake Bowser suit. Man, that game had me on suspense through the whole night. Anxious & excitement are two words for it.

Then again when I was busy playing Smash Bros. Melee, trying to unlock everything. or at least the characters. Boy, it surprised me when I fought both Marth & Roy, then they were available.

I did both on a school night & still was able to make it through the day. But I told myself not to do that again & to not tell mom ever.

@Zuljaras Pretty much. All I did was the main quest line which they mark for you and pretty much logged out. There didn't feel like any other reason to stay on.

@Tasuki And I feel that is the case with all modern gaming AND movies. Like only 10% of them are worth something. That is why remakes and remasters are so anticipated.

Or maybe that is nostalgia talking again

One of the biggest failures of modern gaming is the focus to playing against people online rather than 'real' multi player gaming. Some of my fondest memories of gaming when I was younger are long late night sessions with a room full of mates playing games like mariokart and street fighter. The competative nature of 'winner stays on' bought the best trolling of each other, not toxic trolling, just good old friendly banter.
Maybe this is still a thing and I am just too old, I hope so.

@DanijoEX-the-Pierrot I used to secretly play games all night, I got caught a few times which led to them taking the plug off my spectrum. But that didn't stop me because I just pushed the wires straight into the holes in the wall, and if I heard my parents coming then I would yank them out of the wall and dive into bed.
