Alright, I'm now pushing the random 8 bracket. Just draw numbers from 1 to 32 eight times to set up the brackets and the winners get into the official bracket while the losers just become honorable mentions. It seems we won't be getting this tournament underway, otherwise.
Alright guys, I went ahead and picked 8 songs at random to compete for a spot in the final bracket. So without further ado, let the elimination round begin!
Eliminate: 1) The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess - Lake Hylia (Although I love this track, the water sfx do get tiring and distracting from the actual music. Very loud). 2) The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker - The Great Sea 3) Kid Icarus: Uprising - Seafloor Palace 4) Bravely Default - Sailing the Sea
Wi-Fi Game List:
Xenoblade Chronicles X
Splatoon
Super Smash Bros. Wii U & 3DS + All DLC
Mario Kart 8 + All DLC
Mario Golf: World Tour + All DLC
Mario Kart 7
Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon
Yeah, I think we should assume to vote for whoever you want eliminated from the tournament.
1) Super Mario Sunshine - Gelato Beach
2) Mario Kart 8 - Dolphin Shoals
3) Kid Icarus Uprising: Seafloor Palace
4) Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX - Under the Sea
Eliminate:
1. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess - Lake Hylia (Really down to personal preference.)
2. Mario Kart 8 - Dolphin Shoals (I'm torn between two songs I really love here. As good as Dolphin Shoals is, The Great Sea really makes you feel like you're on the ocean.
3. Kid Icarus: Uprising - Seafloor Palace (Mainly due to the fact that the first half of the song is more desert themed.)
4. Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX - Under the Sea (I prefer to keep Disney songs out of my video games, but that's just me.)
Wi-Fi Game List:
Xenoblade Chronicles X
Splatoon
Super Smash Bros. Wii U & 3DS + All DLC
Mario Kart 8 + All DLC
Mario Golf: World Tour + All DLC
Mario Kart 7
Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon
ELIMINATE
1) The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess - Lake Hylia — I really wanna see 3D World in the actual tournament. There will be plenty of other serene songs to vie for first, I'm sure.
2) The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker - The Great Sea — Unfortunately first match-up. Dat sax, yo!
3) Kid Icarus: Uprising - Seafloor Palace — Gotta go with my own nomination. Plus, Lockjaw's Keep has some amazing drums that they carried over into this game.
4) Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix - Under the Sea — One vote away from matching @Rosalina vote-for-vote, but I just can't stand this song. Not in instrumental form, not in rhythm game form, not in any form. The less I have to hear of it, the better. @__@ Maybe that's unfair, though. My sister's a Disney nut and I'm really anything but.
With a score of 5-1 Lake Hylia is eliminated.
With a score of 4-2 The Great Sea is eliminated.
With a score of 6-0 The Seafloor Palace is eliminated.
With a score of 5-1 Under the Sea is eliminated.
1) Super Mario Galaxy - Buoy Base Galaxy
2) Sonic Generations - Seaside Hill (Modern)
3) Ys Origin - Water Prison
4) Sonic the Hedgehog 3 - Hydrocity Zone (Act 2)
1) Kirby's Return to Dreamland - Happy Mambo
2) Sonic Generations - Seaside Hill (Modern)
3) Ys Origin - Water Prison
4) Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze - Irate Eight (Tension)
Wi-Fi Game List:
Xenoblade Chronicles X
Splatoon
Super Smash Bros. Wii U & 3DS + All DLC
Mario Kart 8 + All DLC
Mario Golf: World Tour + All DLC
Mario Kart 7
Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon
1. Kirby's Return to Dreamland - Happy Mambo
2. Sonic Generations - Seaside Hill (Modern)
3. Ys Origin - Water Prison
4. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 - Hydrocity Zone (Act 2)
1) Kirby's Return to Dreamland - Happy Mambo — This theme reminds me of the levels from Yoshi's Story with the sea and the pirate ships in the background. It makes me think back to my childhood and I can't seem to separate the sea from it. A pretty good, if overly simple theme. Besides, Buoy Base Galaxy doesn't even remotely sound like a water theme. More like a space armada. You could remove water from the level entirely and I think this theme would work just fine.
2) Sonic Generations - Seaside Hill (Modern) — I can already tell this category will be preying hardcore on my nostalgia. This feels so much like Sonic Adventure 2 without inherently being SA2. Honestly, I'm not big on either of these options, though. While "Happy Mambo" reminded me of Yoshi's Island, I didn't feel like it was directly striking at that. I almost feel like these two ripped-off SA2 and NSMB Wii. Oh well. The one that actually feels a bit different wins for me. Plus I prefer this instrumentation.
3) The Minish Cap - Temple of Droplets — Tough one. Very tough one. They have that similar ancient feel. But I really like the use of cold imagery in Temple of Droplets. I can just picture a Viking ship docking at a cold port or seashore. Maybe in icy waters. The use of sleigh bells is odd but not at all unwelcome.
4) Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze - Irate Eight (Tension) — Not even close. Not only was this my own nomination, David Wise is one of the first composers I really got familiar with. Despite not ever owning DKC2 as a kid, the significance of the reference is certainly not lost on me. This is, IMO, my favorite rendition of "Lockjaw's Saga" and I couldn't be quicker to vote to keep it in. Besides, I've never been fond of Sonic classic music, and this one certainly hasn't changed my mind. There are elements in play that I don't think Sonic's classic themes were even capable of. DKCTF, hands down.
