@Pastellioli, thanks! Like I said before, it's an official key art for the Shield Hero anime! I might change it to other key arts for Shield Hero or other animes after a while, I haven't decided yet. Speaking of avatar changing, I've noticed that you've changed your avatar quite a bit since you created your account! All of them have looked pretty cool and have been cropped into the square brilliantly! Do you edit them for that purpose? I've noticed that, in my avatar picture, one of the characters only has their body showing and not their head, but I didn't edit it at all so, I'm honestly not really surprised about that.

@ShieldHero I find changing avatars is a bit fun! I do kind of edit them, because originally, a lot of the pictures are bigger and are off-center when I’m putting them as an avatar. All I really do is just screenshot the photo I want and crop the sides a bit so it’s perfectly square, but there have been times where I didn’t do that. I didn’t crop my first avatar on the site, and the same for an avatar I had in September since they were already in a square shape.

Again, cropping is the only form of editing I do with the pictures, I usually don’t like adding any other edits or effects to them, and I prefer to use official pictures instead of unofficial pictures like fan art.

@ShieldHero I also lurked for a few years before finally making an account so that I could vote in a poll about Splatoon, haha! I just made my username the same as I use on most sites. I love the community because with very few exceptions we are all very understanding of other POVs

@Pastellioli Sorry for the long wait!

Yeah. Older phones and tablets just don't work so well.

I kinda hated older twitter. I can imagine when he bought it, a certain someone did genuinely intend to improve it. But I'm already certain that older twitter staff undermined him in some way, on top of his own decisions. AI sucks, but I view the current state of it as "allowing a concept to progress to a natural extreme harmful to others". Google and yt searches used AI back in the day, so of course it evolved into a tool that gets abused... As for credit to art.. I save stuff, but never really repost it. The reason my pfp is blank is because I only have one image that is, in a sense, mine to use. If I show something, it's usually a direct link. As for moderation? Before the buyout, a friend got perma'd for disliking censorship, without the reason being stated, while some political group was outright fearmongering telling ppl to beware their neighbors and pharmacists...and got away with it.

Huh. Honestly sounds similar to politics. They've become like a harmful drug lately. Addictive, blinding, and detrimental.

I already forgot the insulted incident you responded about. As for the block button? Yeah. Ppl don't want to try anymore. They just want to have fun or whatever. Fair, but also, you can't actually make something more fun by simply ignoring the problem.
There was an artist I joined their discord server at a friend's recommendation, Sifyro. I did vent, but stopped when asked. Was somewhat immature, and at the very end, made a joke comment about something cause I forgot what it was. Sifyro, at the time, had a reputation for making callout posts.
So ofc I was removed, I went to one of her posts to ask why I was removed....and after an exchange with someone else, or actually during, I was blocked.
I asked some friends what I did wrong, linking my own comments, as the artist's were invisible to me, and was met with an "omfg you need to see this", after which I was shown a post displaying my discord ID, with the text "if you want to block or ban others from your mature server, here's how".

So ofc, I know it can be, and is abused frequently.
And I'm genuinely sick of feeling like I'm required to read the minds of others to know the heck is going on. At the same time, I need to actively combat my own reactions.

@ShieldHero Shield Hero fan?

I won't say peak. It isn't like, Re:Zero, or the OG Dragonball.
But I do enjoy it greatly!

Am concerned because the light novels have been on indefinite hiatus for years.

@Mariotag, I am in agreement with you. I've purchased almost all the light novels physically. I did some internet research and learned that there hasn't been a new light novel since June 2019, which was before the Covid-19 Pandemic! at least the Spear Hero spin-off has still been getting volumes lately, which is a good sign. By the way, I recently watched OG Dragon Ball about two years ago when I started going through the entire canon anime series again, and Re:Zero is on my Crunchyroll watchlist for the future!

@ShieldHero same here! Well, less so now, but at the time I made my acct, I didnt know any other fans of the Big N. Since moving I have made a very good friend of a fellow Nintendo fan, who is also a Christian (which is in my experience an annoyingly rare combo), so that has been great!

@CaleBoi25, you're right about the rarity of the fan of Nintendo/ Christian combination being kinda rare. Fun fact, I actually fit that combination, but I haven't found a way to fit it on my profile description yet. My entire family is Christian and doesn't go to a whole lot of places, but continues to watch anime.
it took me ages to find a friend who was a Christian but also likes anime, as well as Nintendo. We just became friends a few months ago And he's in my Church youth group! Talk about a lucky find! I don't have many friends because of my weird combination of being a Christian, but also being an otaku who really likes Nintendo/anime, which often weirds out a bunch of people, if you get what I mean. That's why I can relate to Naofumi Iwatani, the main character of the Shield Hero anime. He gets treated as an outcast from the start, but the other heroes do get along with him eventually. Over the past year, I have been trying to become more friendly with people after mostly locking myself in my room and being cynical during the years 2020-2023, and finding myself becoming more and more negative. In early 2024, I started trying to get along with others again, and I've been a lot more positive over the past year! I also read and watched Shield Hero for the first time in the past year and it's become one of my favorites. In all honesty, reading comments on Nintendo Life was one of the things that made me want to try talking to others again. Creating my first online forum account is yet another step forward on my journey of making more friends!

@CaleBoi25, the past few months, I've taken to calling myself an otaku weirdo freak, like my profile page says

In case you don't know, an otaku is anyone who likes Japanese video games, manga, anime, two of those, or all three of those. I like all three of those. 😄

@ShieldHero Ah. You think the author isn't burnt out, as ppl who frequent CR seem to think?
I know there's a completed web novel, that some ppl were unhappy with the ending of. Not much else.

Re:Zero is peak, though the anime does not represent it exceptionally well as the original novels, and the English version of said novels has significant translation errors. I read the web novel. There is a decline starting toward the end of arc 6, and there's a certain part of arc 3 that's especially hard to get through.

DB is neat.

@Mariotag It’s okay!

It’s a miracle some games even run on older phones like the one I have, especially Japanese rhythm games and other bigger games like Genshin Impact. Mine isn’t extremely old, but it’s starting to show signs of age.

Well, I did hear old Twitter was still kinda awful even before it was bought out. It was just when the buyout happened that it worsened from what I saw and the decisions they made, like making people pay for blue verification marks and changing an aspect of the block button, but I can’t really comment on a lot of the stuff since I never had the app. If there’s one thing I really don’t like doing that I accidentally did in the past, it’s sharing opinions and takes on things I never used or played/watched (like a movie, show, or game) and just taking the opinions of other people.

I don’t hate AI entirely, it can have good stuff and has been proven to be genuinely helpful, but it’s when it’s used in malicious ways that I start hating it. But, I think wifh anything in existence, especially technology, it can have both good and bad uses.

I was going to use fanart as an avatar here once and intended to credit the artist in either my bio or signature, but I chose not to. I prefer not to use others artwork for anything else since I don’t own it, and if I am going to use something for an avatar, I always choose official pictures or screenshots from games and movies/shows, also because I think it’ll be easier for people to recognize where my avatar comes from. I rarely use my own art or pictures since I don’t think they’re good quality. When it comes to credit, it’s important for people to credit the artist and respect their wishes when it comes to reposting, and that one Twitter incident with the artist getting insulted just for wanting credit is upsetting. If there’s one site that’s the worst when it comes to reposting content and not crediting artists, it’s Pinterest. I’ve been using it a lot lately for references since I’ve been trying to draw recently, and I can’t tell you how many times I saw reposted artwork, some even clearly saying “do not repost” on them but the users went ahead and posted it anyway. And what’s annoying is I can recognize certain art styles from specific artists on there, but they are unofficial reposts from random people or they don’t bother crediting who made it. Though, I’ve come across art that Pinterest users made themselves, but it’s rare to come across original pictures on there in my experience, also because the site is littered with ads…

Fearmongering is very dangerous, and history has already shown it’s extremely detrimental and gets everyone riled up about stuff that tends to not even be true. Not surprised that Twitter would be home to something like that, given I’ve seen in videos how the site can be like.

Like I said I think everything can have both good and bad uses, and that includes the block button. It can be used to help block and deal with genuinely problematic people who cause issues, but also to avoid resolving issues, to avoid looking bad over something, or for genuinely dumb and trivial reasons. I’ve seen the block button being used far frequently on the art side of IG, because of the whole AI art thing and how artists are getting asked to show proof that what they made isn’t from a machine. Some genuine, authentic artists get accused of AI a lot, plus a lot of the comments they get accusing them of it are pretty rude and snarky, so I can get why they’d use the block button because of how they get treated rudely and how misinformation could potentially spread, but there’s two “artists” I’ve seen on IG that block people mentioning AI, because, unlike the real artists that get accused of it, there is actual proof, explanations, and analyses from people that show those two “artists” actually use AI, they just use the block button so they don’t look bad and to protect their reputation. Surprisingly, I’ve never heard of that artist you mentioned, but I think the fact you mentioned the artist had a history of making callout posts, combined with the block button, I think tells why the person chose not to resolve things, and it sounds like you got blocked for a joke that was trying to just be funny and wasn’t trying to be rude? Yeah, situations like the one you mentioned does prove that the button can be used for small things that aren’t serious, to avoid actually resolving an issue, or when something small and inoffensive gets misinterpreted as something bad. I think misinterpretation and negativity between people over small things is unfortunately too common online, and it just gets blown out of proportion sometimes.

I hope your feeling better after that incident you mentioned, because what you said about how bad it affected you for a bit sounded very concerning.
