@Mariotag, I am in agreement with you. I've purchased almost all the light novels physically. I did some internet research and learned that there hasn't been a new light novel since June 2019, which was before the Covid-19 Pandemic! at least the Spear Hero spin-off has still been getting volumes lately, which is a good sign. By the way, I recently watched OG Dragon Ball about two years ago when I started going through the entire canon anime series again, and Re:Zero is on my Crunchyroll watchlist for the future!

@ShieldHero same here! Well, less so now, but at the time I made my acct, I didnt know any other fans of the Big N. Since moving I have made a very good friend of a fellow Nintendo fan, who is also a Christian (which is in my experience an annoyingly rare combo), so that has been great!
@CaleBoi25, you're right about the rarity of the fan of Nintendo/ Christian combination being kinda rare. Fun fact, I actually fit that combination, but I haven't found a way to fit it on my profile description yet. My entire family is Christian and doesn't go to a whole lot of places, but continues to watch anime.
it took me ages to find a friend who was a Christian but also likes anime, as well as Nintendo. We just became friends a few months ago And he's in my Church youth group! Talk about a lucky find! I don't have many friends because of my weird combination of being a Christian, but also being an otaku who really likes Nintendo/anime, which often weirds out a bunch of people, if you get what I mean. That's why I can relate to Naofumi Iwatani, the main character of the Shield Hero anime. He gets treated as an outcast from the start, but the other heroes do get along with him eventually. Over the past year, I have been trying to become more friendly with people after mostly locking myself in my room and being cynical during the years 2020-2023, and finding myself becoming more and more negative. In early 2024, I started trying to get along with others again, and I've been a lot more positive over the past year! I also read and watched Shield Hero for the first time in the past year and it's become one of my favorites. In all honesty, reading comments on Nintendo Life was one of the things that made me want to try talking to others again. Creating my first online forum account is yet another step forward on my journey of making more friends!

@CaleBoi25, the past few months, I've taken to calling myself an otaku weirdo freak, like my profile page says
In case you don't know, an otaku is anyone who likes Japanese video games, manga, anime, two of those, or all three of those. I like all three of those. 😄

@ShieldHero Ah. You think the author isn't burnt out, as ppl who frequent CR seem to think?
I know there's a completed web novel, that some ppl were unhappy with the ending of. Not much else.
Re:Zero is peak, though the anime does not represent it exceptionally well as the original novels, and the English version of said novels has significant translation errors. I read the web novel. There is a decline starting toward the end of arc 6, and there's a certain part of arc 3 that's especially hard to get through.
@ShieldHero ha, claiming that now, minus the otaku. I mean, I am a 4th Filipino and love Asian culture, but Im more into Deaf culture so we will go with ASL gamer nerd Christian haha!
@Princess_lily wait, what is this group you are talkhng about?! That sounds crazy?
It’s a miracle some games even run on older phones like the one I have, especially Japanese rhythm games and other bigger games like Genshin Impact. Mine isn’t extremely old, but it’s starting to show signs of age.
Well, I did hear old Twitter was still kinda awful even before it was bought out. It was just when the buyout happened that it worsened from what I saw and the decisions they made, like making people pay for blue verification marks and changing an aspect of the block button, but I can’t really comment on a lot of the stuff since I never had the app. If there’s one thing I really don’t like doing that I accidentally did in the past, it’s sharing opinions and takes on things I never used or played/watched (like a movie, show, or game) and just taking the opinions of other people.
I don’t hate AI entirely, it can have good stuff and has been proven to be genuinely helpful, but it’s when it’s used in malicious ways that I start hating it. But, I think wifh anything in existence, especially technology, it can have both good and bad uses.
I was going to use fanart as an avatar here once and intended to credit the artist in either my bio or signature, but I chose not to. I prefer not to use others artwork for anything else since I don’t own it, and if I am going to use something for an avatar, I always choose official pictures or screenshots from games and movies/shows, also because I think it’ll be easier for people to recognize where my avatar comes from. I rarely use my own art or pictures since I don’t think they’re good quality. When it comes to credit, it’s important for people to credit the artist and respect their wishes when it comes to reposting, and that one Twitter incident with the artist getting insulted just for wanting credit is upsetting. If there’s one site that’s the worst when it comes to reposting content and not crediting artists, it’s Pinterest. I’ve been using it a lot lately for references since I’ve been trying to draw recently, and I can’t tell you how many times I saw reposted artwork, some even clearly saying “do not repost” on them but the users went ahead and posted it anyway. And what’s annoying is I can recognize certain art styles from specific artists on there, but they are unofficial reposts from random people or they don’t bother crediting who made it. Though, I’ve come across art that Pinterest users made themselves, but it’s rare to come across original pictures on there in my experience, also because the site is littered with ads…
Fearmongering is very dangerous, and history has already shown it’s extremely detrimental and gets everyone riled up about stuff that tends to not even be true. Not surprised that Twitter would be home to something like that, given I’ve seen in videos how the site can be like.
Like I said I think everything can have both good and bad uses, and that includes the block button. It can be used to help block and deal with genuinely problematic people who cause issues, but also to avoid resolving issues, to avoid looking bad over something, or for genuinely dumb and trivial reasons. I’ve seen the block button being used far frequently on the art side of IG, because of the whole AI art thing and how artists are getting asked to show proof that what they made isn’t from a machine. Some genuine, authentic artists get accused of AI a lot, plus a lot of the comments they get accusing them of it are pretty rude and snarky, so I can get why they’d use the block button because of how they get treated rudely and how misinformation could potentially spread, but there’s two “artists” I’ve seen on IG that block people mentioning AI, because, unlike the real artists that get accused of it, there is actual proof, explanations, and analyses from people that show those two “artists” actually use AI, they just use the block button so they don’t look bad and to protect their reputation. Surprisingly, I’ve never heard of that artist you mentioned, but I think the fact you mentioned the artist had a history of making callout posts, combined with the block button, I think tells why the person chose not to resolve things, and it sounds like you got blocked for a joke that was trying to just be funny and wasn’t trying to be rude? Yeah, situations like the one you mentioned does prove that the button can be used for small things that aren’t serious, to avoid actually resolving an issue, or when something small and inoffensive gets misinterpreted as something bad. I think misinterpretation and negativity between people over small things is unfortunately too common online, and it just gets blown out of proportion sometimes.
I hope your feeling better after that incident you mentioned, because what you said about how bad it affected you for a bit sounded very concerning.
@ShieldHero
What makes it difficult for you, to be a Christan and to socialise with other people? Do they take offense that you are a Christian? Or do you take offense, because of their live style?
I like the Christian belief. To me it is basically to live and let live. If I eat meat, I do not speak bad about those who do not, and vice versa. And I try to treat a person the way I want to be treated.
Hearing that you take small steps at a time, to socialise and to live more again is awesome. Please keep doing so, I wish you much success.
@Jhena, surprisingly, I've never been persecuted because of my faith. But, I am quite the introvert, which makes it difficult to socialize. In the years 2020-2023, I had kind of lost faith in people in general due to things like the Covid-19 Pandemic. I was mostly a shut-in in my bedroom and really, really negative almost all the time, which was not fun at all. In early 2024, I started an experiment to try to get along with others and I've generally become a lot more positive since then. I'm not offended by anyone's life style or anything like that. I have a similar "live and let live" philosophy as long as someone isn't stealing, m*urdering, etc. I'm a Christian who watches and enjoys anime, which most genuine Christians hate with a passion for reasons I will not state in this comment (if you don't know what I'm talking about, feel free to ask about it), so I'm a lot less bossy then some Christians are. I also agree with the "treat others how you want to be treated" concept all the way. Overall, this experiment is still a learning process for me. I tried the experiment on a whim after watching the Pokémon Horizons anime on Netflix. The main character, Liko, is an introverted girl who most of the time doesn't know what to say when other people are conversing. That was how I used to be before the Pandemic started and I gave up on people entirely. I saw Liko improving in the way she got along with others, and thought "If Liko can get along with other people better, than I can too!" Pokémon Horizons, and reading Nintendo Life, is what made me decide to try the experiment. Honestly, it sometimes feels like Pokémon Gen 9 in general was made just for me, because Pokémon Violet's focus on friendship felt special to me, who didn't really have friends in 2023, when I was playing the game. Pokémon Gen 9 is my favorite Gen of Pokémon for that reason (an unpopular opinion, I know). Hopefully, my progress in learning to socialize more remains steady! 😃

Thank you for your thorough answer and for sharing so personal matters. Being an introvert and socialising is definitely not always easy, but I think it can work. I am more of an introvert myself, so I can understand how you feel. I am watching the last seasons with Ash Ketchum now. Pokemon is my soul food, I am watching one episode in the morning, almost every day. It helps to start the day more positive. After reading your comment, I am really curious about the newest seasons. Glad to hear, that it helped you grow.
I would like to know why Christians do not like Anime? Is it because of all the magic and dark stuff? Or because of shows like "the devil is a parttimer" or something like that, in which the devil is portrayed as the good guy?
@Jhena, first off, your tradition of watching one episode of Pokémon a day is really cool! If I had the time to do that in the morning, I would start doing that, but I personally prefer waiting for the late afternoon / evening, when I have more time and can binge cartoons anime for several hours.
To answer your question about anime, anime has a lot of stuff that Christians, or even Americans in general, think are weird or bad. Animes that portray devils / demons as good guys are especially not popular among Christians, who believe that all demons are evil. Pokémon isn't popular among most Christians because of the "evolution" aspect. Also, most anime, which are usually for a teen / adult audience most of the time as it is, usually have at least a little bit of sexual content. Usually, it's just a hot spring scene or two that doesn't show any private parts, or an accident where a boy sees a girl who is only half-clothed (along with many girl outfits in anime being scanty to begin with). Sometimes, in anime that is rated Mature, there can be situations that are more revealing, if you get what I mean (I'm trying to be vague enough that my comment doesn't get moderated for being too inappropriate). One thing I've noticed that has really bugged me over the years is that many people blast almost every single anime as "Inappropriate, shouldn't be allowed to exist!" when a lot of American shows really aren't better in that regard. I believe that people are entitled to their opinion, but come on, it is kind of ridiculous. But I have learned to accept that most people, especially Christians, don't like anime like I do, and understand the reasons why. Is this a good enough answer for your question?

The answer is more than good enough, thanks! Yeah, I used to watch Anime and read manga for hours every day, even reeeeeaaally dark stuff. I know the typical anime tropes too. I like the innocent stuff nowadays. Some of the older animes feel surprisingly Christian, because the stories are taken from older western books. Like Perrine for example. I think if people look long enough, they will find good shows and manga fitting their belief system.
Every person has to find his or her own way, so I try not to be judgemental.
@Jhena, about older animes feeling Christian, I once watched an old anime from the 80s which was an anime adaptation of the Swiss Family Robinson. It even had Christian themes. It was free on Prime Video, actually. I don't know if it still is or not, I haven't watched it in years.
I also stick to being positive instead of judgemental most of the time. Back during the negative days of 2020-2023, I was rather judgemental, and trying to make people see from my point of view all the time. Trust me, it was exhausting. I am never going back to that, ever. I learned my lesson. 😂

Yep, this is how I live too. Trying to force people into something simply does not work, even if you are right. Definitely saves a lot of energy.
I just go my way, if someone wants to walk beside me cool, if not that is cool too.
Hello everyone! I'm a new account, and I don't guarantee that I'll add to the chit-chat thread every day, but I'll at least poke in my head here and there!
I know it's not one of your newer posts, but I just wanted to say hi to you! I hope you're liking the Nintendo Life community. Don't worry about it, I can be busy a lot of the time as well.
@Pastellioli That's awesome you finished a drawing. Is it on the artist thread? I'd like to see it if that's OK. I've been toying around with my sketchbook a little while back, where I would draw just for fun. I'd also try to draw from an angle, as well. I've been thinking of doing watercolor as well... I always liked how watercolor looks. Maybe I'll try out making digital art with like a sort of sketchpad to connect to a computer, but I'm more old-fashioned, honestly. I like having physical pencils and a drawing pad. I've been like that since I was little, though back then I would use stuff like markers and crayons. I would also use Paint on Windows, as well as Mario Paint on the SNES, but I always had an easier time with the real drawing supplies.
Gotcha, I played Banjo-Tooie on NSO's Expansion Pack. I do prefer its predecessor as well, it just feels a lot more lenient and the worlds aren't too huge for the most part... Click Clock Wood being the only exception with the seasons having their own areas. Yeah definitely, even today, I still love a good platformer. It's always been my favorite genre. I think collectathons can be done well too, I still like going back to Super Mario 64 on occasion. Me too... back when I was in school, I got ridiculed for liking Nintendo and other stuff. Thank goodness I don't have to deal with that anymore. I think in a way, it made me more attached to Nintendo and their games. I stuck with them during the Wii U era too... and as a lot of us know, they struggled big time back then.
Pretty much, yeah. The Switch 2's own hardware would try to handle the Switch 1 games being played. We know that they'll be improving the Switch 2's backwards compatibility over time, so I would imagine that, at the very least, the vast majority of Switch 1 games could be played without issue.
It certainly did. I put over 200 collective hours into Tears of the Kingdom, finding all the shrines and getting all the heart containers did take a while.
It's cool you liked those aspects of the game. I still remember seeing a little bit of footage of Conker 64 in one of those N64 promo tapes I had. It did look nice and friendly... then Rare changed course drastically and eventually the game was rated M haha. Yeah, it truly doesn't seem like my kind of game, I generally like my stuff to be more family-friendly. I'm not a huge fan of N64-era jank either.
I'd love to play more of World sometime, I'd just need a Switch 2 first. Obviously I'll need to play a lot more of the game to have more solid thoughts on it. I love the costumes that all the characters can have, too. I picked Mario as a cowboy when I tried out the game. I did go to a wild west themed park after all, lol.
"Give yourself the gift of being joyfully you."
Favorite game: Super Mario 3D World
AKA MarioVillager92. Ask if you want to be Switch friends with me, but I want to get to know you first. Thanks! ❤️
