Hey Sega! How about you put your games on the cartridge and not make them game-key cards? Embarrassing since Sonic X Shadow Generations for Switch 1 was ALL on the cart (yup, played it without the update when I got it).

I swear, this game-key card nonsense is making me want a Switch 2 less and less. Again, I have no problem with digital games. I'll buy digital games, but when I want a physical copy of a game, I want it all on the cartridge.

I expect this kind of behavior from EA, not Sega. I play third party games too, I really hate how third party publishers are going the game-key card route.

@Anti-Matter That's cool. Sounds like an experience given special gloves needs to be worn in order to play the game.

@Pastellioli Indeed. Sales are always fun events, especially on PC. Both Steam and GOG have annual Summer and Winter sales where I buy games super cheap. Even sometimes good deals in general. Just got DOOM 2016 from GOG for $4. All I need is a USB stick to back it up given GOG is DRM-free.

Seeing GTA VI's potential price going over $100 makes me glad I'm not really into the series. I have GTA Vice City on Steam, I played it for about seven hours, and never touched it again. I feel the same way, I've been mostly playing older titles. The only new games I've played were Princess Peach Showtime (which is over a year old at this point) and Sonic X Shadow Generations. I do play free-to-play games too, Disney Speedstorm has been the most recent one I played.

Yeah, it's really mind boggling since you'd figure "it's old, so it wouldn't cost as much." I use to buy older games too, I was buying GBA games up until 2018. Last ones I bought were Puyo Pop and Mario Kart Super Circuit. The higher prices is why I like re-releases. As much flak Super Mario 3D All-Stars got, at least I didn't need to pay $100+ for Super Mario Sunshine. It's good for popular games, but so many older games get left on older systems.

The 3DS (and 2DS) IIRC did have support for all DS games. As for Wii U, it actually had DS games as part of its virtual console (I don't have one, but the fact DS was an option, was really, really cool). I think the reason why Labo might be unplayable has to be the system size. Remember, the Labo stuff was made to fit the Switch 1 system itself. I hope so too, I think it might be better than Xbox, but again, there's a lot of Switch 1 games that need to be tested out. Rights issues is weird since the point of emulation is to emulate a game system. In theory, if the Switch 2 uses a Switch 1 emulator for its backwards compatibility, then plugging in a Switch 1 cart or downloading a Switch 1 game should work.

@Princess_Lilly To be honest, I'm not huge on horror. I just don't like the feeling of being scared. With that said, I do have some horror themed things I do like, mostly with zombies. Like the House of the Dead games, I liked watching Shaun of the Dead (which is more of a comedy), and I liked an anime called School Live, though I think I may have spoiled it, since it's best experienced blind.

@MarioVillager92 Thank you! It's from the series of YouTube shorts called Trolls Fun Fair Surprise, in one scene Poppy had flowers, thought it would be good for spring. BTW if you're interested, Trolls Band Together is leaving Netflix come May 15.

Tennis as video games has always been fun, I LOVE Sega Superstars Tennis on Wii and DS. I think I played that old test they had for Mario Tennis Aces, always wanted to pick up the title. You're welcome, it's like sounds you hear while actually flying. Indeed there is. Thanks for reminding me, I just put RailCowGirl on now. I needed some background noise.

Yup, I don't need to worry about the rush of people updating, and I can just update and enjoy the new system. Nice, Wii sounded like a great birthday gift. I loved how Wii Sports got everyone playing. My elderly neighbor got one just for the bowling and Wii Play. Sadly she passed away, but her family gave me the Wii and games, so I have two Wiis now. I have a feeling if I ever plug it in, I'll see the memories we had playing together.

Indeed, I think many are not keen on the $80 price tag, even if the game does look good. I've seen people who are excited for the game also be critical over the price. I could imagine $80 games could hurt Nintendo as less people may buy games. I did find out recently that $70 did hurt sales for some companies. Having a lower price allows more to buy games. Though, I'm more concerned about the third party stuff being game-key card only. Shame since the Switch 1 version of Sonic X Shadow Generations is all on the cart.

Surprisingly I never built a PC. A long time ago I got a custom built gaming PC from a local PC shop, and loved it. Now I use a gaming laptop, and honestly, I'm leaning for saving up for another one. I don't use it to play games and only games on it, I do use it as a portable PC too.

Whoa, I should look up to see Kirby's Air Ride's LAN mode too. I forgot that game had the LAN option.

You can share your thoughts, it's a good movie. That reminds me, I bought myself Disney Doorables last month and Lady was one of the figures I got out of the pack.

@Sunsy
About Switch 2 3rd party games, I think it was Nintendo's fault by not providing proper GB size of Switch 2 cartridge and providing the game key cartridge instead so the 3rd party developers will mostly jump on the bandwagon by choosing game key cartridge to sell their games.
If Nintendo still want to keep physical games alive, don't provide that BS cartridge option and Nintendo must lowering the cartridge cost so the developers can put their games on proper size cartridge with low cost cartridge production, also preventing the lazy developers / publishers to choose BS option to sell their games.
With current situation of 3rd party games on Switch 2 which some developers choose game key cards, it's a direct disrespect toward customers who still value the physical games.
Guess who ever thinking game key cart is the future, they are really dumb people that ruin the whole gaming industry.
And because of that, I will have less engagement with Switch 2, only will consider the games that have game data inside their cartridge.
The majority of multi console 3rd party games I will pick PS5 version instead, will not support game key cart on Switch 2,let those BS games died.

@Sunsy Oh. Sega's doing that? Really sucks.
Nintendo's secrecy may be at work here though, or maybe cart production costs? Last time I remember a major price spike from Nintendo was N64. Which notoriously had far more expensive to manufacture carts.

Having said that, I preorded the MKW bundle. I'd saved up for it for years, only knowing at the last minute they were going greed again.

Also, you mentioned Gog. I kinda wanna try them out. Any recommendations on how? Any way to get their games onto a handheld or console?

@Anti-Matter I really cannot help but agree. Nintendo are the ones who made game-key cards an option for publishers to use. If the option was not there, then they would either have to put the games onto actual Switch 2 cartridges, or sell it digital only.

This whole game-key card thing just feels like a scam. Yes the box is warning you it's a game-key card, but still, it's a cartridge with nothing on it and you still need to download the full game to system memory or SD card to play.

Thing is I play third party games on Switch, not just first party Nintendo games.

Would be cool if you could download the game to the actual game-key, like I do with GOG PC games to CD-R and DVD-R, and make that physical copy, but that's wishful thinking.

@Mariotag Yeah, it's even more embarrassing as Sega usually puts the games on the cart for Switch 1 too. It's concerning since I do play a lot of third party games on Switch as well.

Gosh, hope you had no issues with pre-ordering, I imagine it was hard to do. Enjoy when it arrives.

As for GOG, it's PC gaming. One way to try them is sign up, and grab the few free games they have (not free-to-play, actual free full games), but they only work on PC. If you have a Windows PC, it might be worth checking out. One recommendation from their free selection is Tyrian 2000. It's a shoot 'em up that plays well with a mouse, and it's low-end enough to work on most PCs. I recommend choosing the offline installer, since it gives you the game, you can back it up, and install it without ever needing Internet.

@Sunsy My worries about the preorder are just that they'll mysteriously not have mine available. It happened with the Wii. Managers and employees would buy up the stock before it went on shelves.

I'm finding out more about the keycard releases. They're basically just Sony/Microsoft physical. That's it really. Which is really scummy. I'd thought they had some data from the game on them, meaning you'd download some, but not all of the game, but nope. These companies have been pulling this over a decade now. Just, Nintendo took this long to provide them the option of fake physical.

What kind of shoot em up? I'm aware Gog is DRM free PC gaming, but know little else about them.
I don't want them storing a credit card or anything at the least.

Wow, I have been so bad at replying to people on here as of late. Sorry I’ve been super inactive on here. How’s it going? Hopefully well…haven’t been too productive lately. Was trying to draw all week but my perfectionism is making art so unfun. I did buy something from the Xbox Spring Sale for cheap, but I honestly don’t know when I’ll start playing it.

@Mariotag I did find more memorability with Three Hopes, but again, it does have a lot of stuff that you have to do before you get into battle, not that it’s an extremely bad thing with stuff like bonding with students and having stronger friendships with them and making sure you get them to an appropriate level so you don’t go into a battle losing, but with games I definitely like to progress without stopping and like when games don’t have any level systems in place. The OG FE Warriors felt like it progressed faster, mainly because there wasn’t a bonding system; all you really had to do is have your characters level up as you play and defeat hordes of enemies.

Yeah, although I haven’t really played a lot of the past FE games, some character omissions did surprise me, and initially, when making Three Hopes, they planned for it to be a direct sequel to the first Warriors and characters omitted from it were supposed to be in it, such as Roy, before they decided it was going to be a spin-off of Three Houses and have no relations to the first game. And there was a secret character in FE Warriors? That’s cool! I don’t think I actually did much in the game to see the secret character haha.

It is, I do think digital has upsides, given its, like you said, more accessible for others, and I do like that with digital games you don’t have to worry about it going out of stock. It helped a lot when I initially wanted ACNH and finding out it was sold out everywhere, funny how I proceeded to not play the game a lot afterward though…Yeah, digital from what I am seeing is mismanaged a lot. It’s kind of sad to think about how you don’t truly own a digital game and you’re rather buying a license to play it, and then that license can be revoked at any time. Luckily I haven’t had issues like that, but I am hoping me or no one else has to deal with it. I’m sure I heard something similar happened with someone’s EA account, which I think got banned and the guy couldn’t use his account or play his games on there anymore, but it happened for another reason and not because the account got hacked. That just shows that companies at any moment can remove your game licenses and never give access back.

It just seems to have a lot of confusion surrounding it and no clarification. I still am relieved the accessories were priced up and the games and console were left untouched, and it’s a relief to hear that OG Switch controllers can be used on the console, but it does make me feel a way when it turned out the game prices were chosen by them and not influenced by anything or anyone else. I am glad that not all Switch 2 games will be expensive (I’m sure that $80 are going to be only on occasions, and a lot of third-party games are way lower than $80-$70) but I honestly think I’ll probably be playing older games on there more than newer games if or when I get it. I don’t think I’ll have it on launch day either, also since I heard getting your hands on a preorder right now has been difficult. Websites crashing and loading slowly, long lines at stores, and people getting their orders confirmed just for it to get cancelled because of low stock.

I only took DRM way more seriously after I read that story on Pure Xbox about the person losing their 15-year-old account to a hacker. I was aware of hacking on consoles but I became wayyy more anxious and fearful about it because I felt like it could happen at any moment, even if your account isn’t big or has much progress made on it. That whole PS3 thing sounds awful. I’d be so upset if I had to deal with that. All that time, all those games, and all that money spent gone in an instant because of poorly managed DRM…I’m hoping it doesn’t happen to anyone else at all, I’d be seriously demotivated if I had to wipe my console data because the console manufacturer messed up on DRM.

Ah, I see. The only times I played with people was with random people online, but I did it alone and only played on occasions. It was hard to win against people though, but it shows I barely played with actual people. Oh yeah, I agree with your point on Smash a lot actually. It’s maybe my most favorite fighting game ever and has polish to it, but it’s honestly more enjoyable when you have actual players with you. I used to play it so much back in 2023, and my family would always join me, but eventually they lost interest and didn’t want to play, so any time I did single-player against CPUs it got boring so fast. I did try online play last year out of curiosity, and it has some of the WORST internet I’ve seen for a Switch game ever, so I can’t enjoy online play. It’s one of the best-selling Switch games ever (and the best-selling fighting game of all time) so it’s surprising that 6-7 years later they still don’t have the online play sorted out.

Not surprised to see people act like that, but it’s annoying to see people get shamed for things they either like or want to have. I see, I do sometimes act a bit like that when I am usually worried and can’t stop thinking about pretty much anything that bothers me. It doesn’t really make super negative reactions, but it annoys people a lot and I need to stop doing that, but my pushiness and the questions I always ask mainly come from how I am worried something will go wrong, which is all the time unfortunately because I feel like if my day is going well, something bad is going to happen later on in the day.

Wow I just noticed that my 15th anniversary joining this site was the other day. 15 years that's a long time. I remember first finding this place when I was looking for release dates for VC games for the Wii after reading the articles here and some of the forum posts a few weeks later I joined. Alot had changed here. Some for the better some not so much. Alot of people have come and gone. Here's hopefully to another 15 years.

@Sunsy I booted up my Xbox yesterday and it was so surprising seeing Microsoft discount so many games for so cheap in their Spring Sale! Especially with the triple-A games. I did buy one game included in the sale, and I’m glad I did, since last time I did buy something from one of those sales was two years ago. It does make me wish Nintendo did sales like that with some of their Switch games. And cool that you got Doom 2016 at a good price! It feels really good getting games during sales.

I do think think GTA VI will get good reception and i definitely think lots of people are going to have fun with it, but it’s going to be really bad if the price the game gets will result in more companies following suit, since reports are saying that’s what some companies are going to do if they see GTA VI sell well. I haven’t exactly played any newer games in a while, I tend to be more interested in older games. The last newer game I played was Marvel Rivals (since it came out December), but it’s been two months since I last played it.

Yeah, it’s so crazy to see older games go up at high prices even despite some of them being officially re-released for cheap or the fact that the game is old. But I think older games on their original cartridges do get overpriced mainly from the fact the console the game was originally made for was discontinued or the value of it. I definitely do like re-releases as well, also because they tend to be remastered and come with improvements with the graphics and controls.

That’s good to hear, it’s great that the 3DS and 2DS and the Wii U supported the full DS and Wii library respectively. That does make me hopeful they’ll try making the full OG Switch library playable on the Switch 2, since it sounds like they are trying to by trying to fix the game issues and listing the issues publicly. Oh yeah, they did say the Labo wouldn’t work because of size issues, and a lot of people here suspected that already before they officially announced it. I do wonder if rights will limit the games they’ll add on there, because Microsoft said licensing issues is what limited them from adding certain games alongside technological issues and limitations, but it seems like Nintendo, at least with the Wii U and 3DS handheld, they didn’t encounter licensing issues at all. Here, it sounds like technological issues is what might limit Nintendo from adding games rather than licensing. It sounds like Nintendo and Microsoft’s backward compatibility programs have different processes from that fact.

@MarioVillager92 Good your feeling better! Yeah, for me, it’s videos, movies, drawing, and even sleeping and napping that make me feel better when I’m down. I especially have a lot of fun when I watch YouTube film reviews of bad films. They are so hilarious and fun to watch.

It is nice microtransactions are gone from it. I definitely think other companies should do what they did with Pocket Camp, where they release a full version of the game without microtransactions and keep it open when it closes. The only time I saw something like that happen was with Club Penguin Island, where the game’s servers were closed, but you could still play normally, albeit the locations were empty and the voice acting from the NPCs were removed completely. What those two games did was definitely better than what Kingdom Hearts Union X did when it closed…

My older Switch avatars used to be Splatoon characters since I was really into playing it when the Switch initially came out. Then when they released the NSO avatar elements, if I remember in order, I had Noah from XC3 (even though I’ve never played it), then Miraidon from Pokémon Violet, a Mario Kart 8 Deluxe screengrab of a Golden Mario driving in Tick Tock Clock, and currently a DKC render. I like all of those avatar elements a whole lot, and the new stuff they have been adding is great.

Yeah, I definitely agree that licensed Disney games actually tend to be better quality than most licensed games nowadays. I definitely think the Disney Infinity trilogy was the best out of the Disney games I’ve played, plus it encourages players to be creative and roam around on top of being a gigantic crossover. It’s a shame the series is dead though, given the toys-to-life concept was left behind during the Wii U-era. Yeah, I watched that video out of curiosity, and I think out of all the Crash clones in it, the guy said he thought Goin’ Quackers was the best. It did look fun though.

It’s fine, I could try buying a new charger, plus I don’t think I have a lot of other games to play on there right now. I was using my handheld for a second playthrough of Yo-kai Watch 2, but I didn’t get much progress in it and I gave it to my sister since she wanted to play it. New Leaf was great and probably my most played game on there!

DKR was fun from what I played, and I saw plenty were hoping MKW was going to feature a story/adventure mode like it too, which would have been cool. I am wondering when or if DKR is going to be added to NSO, because NSO has some pretty surprising game omissions, especially with the N64 library. Yeah, the ideas for the sequel were interesting, but I don’t know what the full development story for the remake was, but it’s believed it started out as a sequel on the GameCube, then the sequel swapped to the OG Xbox and then got canceled, and a remake was made as a replacement for the cancelled sequel instead. I am wondering if they would have kept working on it had they been with Nintendo by the time development on that started, but I think the director said himself he was uninterested in a sequel and got it cancelled. Compared to other game developers, Rare’s employees disliked making sequels to their games and reusing old IP. I remember they actually didn’t want to make Banjo games after Tooie was made.

I am definitely interested in Bananza, it’s absolutely different from the previous DK games, but it looks interesting and I am curious about how it will turn out. I am disappointed when Nintendo games get leaked only a few weeks before release. I know an artwork Nintendo’s Korean branch posted for Bananza spoiled an unrevealed character, and i unfortunately stumbled upon it…I will definitely avoid spoilers for Bananza when it comes out. I do think they definitely have another Mario platformer in the works, and I am wondering when it will get revealed. If so, i am wondering which team is working on it, since it’s believed the Odyssey team is working on Bananza. I think Bananza is a decent substitute for a new 3D Mario game since they didn’t reveal one in the Direct, not to mention people said Bananza looks and feels kind of similar to Odyssey.

@Pastellioli Heh. Something we share.

Yeah. The pace is absolutely in favor of the other games. What frustrates me though, is it's quite nail biting in comparison, with enemies each stage being roughly ten levels higher than my best on each occasion. I want to get S ranks, but can't backtrack to a previous chapter after powering up.

I'd heard it was gonna be a sequel at some point, notably hearing Ike mentioned. My problem wasn't simply the lack of characters though. In HW, they fit almost seamlessly, despite being from vastly different eras, and in later releases, other timelines entirely. In FEW, they're sorta just...there? It isn't like you go to Ylisse and meet the Shepards combating a new threat or anything. The hidden character would be Anna. If you really have at the adventure map replacements, you get equipment, alt outfits, and eventually, special Anna battles will show up, with insane level recommendations and restrictions. Winning one gets you Anna.

Yeah. Like anything, digital has upsides, downsides, and if left unchecked, a natural extreme it will eventually reach. The friend who had been hacked, then banned actually got his account back this past week, but it's a few months too late. On a related note, Switch 2 keycards are basically just Sony/Microsoft "physical"...

The confusion really is nuts. I'm relieved the accessories were the only things priced up..but as you said, it makes you feel a certain way when you know they chose the pricing themselves, and just went in greed. They even went as far as to shift the blame. I have like, two games planned, and istg if they cancel mine cause of low stock, there will be words with Walmart corporate. An agreement hopefully. I'm concerned they'll raise the prices of the online subscription too.

Well, for my friend, it was PS5... He got some saves back, but not the one we were playing multiplayer on. PS3, it was just a disclaimer.

Nintendo is not good with online play. At all. Smash is a big deal on that front too. And yeah. I've craved ppl to play with. I need to shake the rust off, and relearn how to read others. I also just straight up want more modes. Sakurai, where's my boss mode already?? And why did you remove event match?!

Internet activity is internet activity. For me, I tend to get awful reactions. That one thing nagging on my mind must be asked about. And if someone's ghosting or ignoring me? That's like, the ultimate trigger for toxicity for me.

Mariotag

Pastellioli

@Mariotag I get it, it is frustrating when you do start a battle but then realize the enemies are significantly higher leveled, so then you have to go back and do smaller things to get your units levels high. I did have to do that a couple of times, but me focusing solely on leveling up Shez and only four other units was a poor decision in the long run since most of my units fainted in the final battle. I even did something similar to that in the first FE Warriors game…

It was interesting hearing what they planned for Three Hopes, but I can barely remember what happened in FE Warriors, probably because of that point you mentioned with how the characters seemed to be there and didn’t fit seamlessly. I can only remember one level, which was from FE Fates and I’m pretty sure the Ryoma guy was fighting Xander and you had to help Ryoma in time or else you failed the level. Three Hopes I remember way more, probably because it’s characters come from the same timeline and setting. I didn’t have any idea it was Anna! That is interesting to hear.

Good he got his account back. DRM is all lover the place it seems. I’ve never really had a bad DRM experience but it just sounds like it’s usually poorly managed by companies. Microsoft especially, from the 15-year-old XBLA account getting permabanned after getting hacked to games allegedly disappearing from people’s libraries at one point and not finding them in the store. I still like the Xbox, but those are some really bad issues.

I only really want Bananza and maybe MKW, but that’s really it. I know for sure the Switch 2 will have great games but it’s crazy how much confusion and miscommunication came from the reveal and stuff, on top of misinformation from people regarding some of the game prices. It’s maybe the first time I have seen a lot of miscommunication after a Direct. Oh, I am absolutely hoping online sub prices dont go up, or if they do they won’t do it significantly, but I feel like that might be the case, especially since the Switch 2 is introducing GameCube games and even adding some features like rewind and button mapping to N64 games.

Smash and Splatoon are maybe the worst when it comes to online play. Splatoon’s servers occasionally have communication errors that can occur out of nowhere and mess with how you play. When the game starts lagging, almost all players on your end simultaneously disconnect, shots dont register, and it kind of feels like your player character is being pushed around by some invisible force when you try to move, or your character stands and freezes in place. It was the worst with the first Splatoon and the sequel, and I’m pretty sure dataminers found out a few years ago Splatoon 2’s wifi apparently ran on an old Windows computer from the 90s! 3 had better internet connection, albeit with some small issues. Smash though? Far worse than that. If one player lags, everyone else lags and the match ends when one player disconnects instead of letting the match go on. And even when I had good internet I still encountered lag. It was my first time playing Smash online last year and it unfortunately was a bad experience, so I’m not doing that again if I pick it back up again. It especially sucks since I wanted to play with actual people and not CPUs. I still managed to win matches as my DLC mains, but the WiFi was so horrendous, more often than not.

I get how you feel about getting ignored…I do kind of feel disappointed when it happens on here, especially when I respond to someone on here. I kind of get worried I annoyed them or made them angry somehow, and I find it’s been harder to start conversations with others on here for some reason…not saying people are obliged to reply to me, but I have been a little disappointed that I can’t seem to get any conversations going.

As for The House of the dead - which one is your favorite? Mine has to be the 2nd one with the best dubbing ever. We must prevent confusion in the city!

@Pastellioli does Smash Ulti have the same annoying thing as Smash4 where half of the games it's just a horrible slideshow moving 1 slide per 30 seconds?

@Princess_Lilly I never played Smash 4 online, but with Ultimate it does lose a lot of frames per second when the WiFi is bad, and it definitely feels like a slideshow when the game is lagging since the screen just freezes constantly while slightly moving. It’s the worst online play I’ve experienced for a Switch game…
