well it's a sad story(for me at least). it was a nincada since it was golden I thought "I'm the best my pokemon is golden! hahahaha!!!"(note that I was a kid at the time), but my gameboy advance SP was almost broken and in a sad day the game froze when I was about to save it.... when I got it working agian that screen of darkness that always spoils the day "the save data is corrupted can't recover previous save data ETC."...
it wasn't the first time it corrupted but it was the first time the game deleted... years later I tried to play pokemon emerald again on my DS lite and then I was sure the gameboy was the problem.
-almost out of topic: some days before it had corrupted too but it was a happy day because my friend's best pokemon ended up being cloned because the corrupted save was the one right after I gave his pokemon back! aftere these adventures I got obsessed with pokemon game glitches for a while since they made things easier but weren't exactly cheating since they were featured in the game(they weren't suposed to be there but since there was no need to hack for me it was fair, and to tell the truth I still make good use of the Emrald cloning glitch this way I can transfer my pokemons to diamond without losing them!)
EDIT; I thought of nincada but wrote trapinch... terrible mistake they don't even look similar.... sorry other pokemon fans!! I kinda failed you...

Back when I was playing Crystal (first Pokémon game) I found a shiny Tentacool in the ocean while Surfing. I had no idea what it was, and decided to catch it just to prove to myself that I wasn't going crazy seeing Pokémon in different colours. Trained it and evolved it, but didn't use it in my main party near end game.

On a slightly different note it also was the first Pokémon I got to have PokeVirus; which is another concept that confused me greatly, and soon spread to other boxed Pokémon. Using my amazing 8 year old intellect I decided that since it was a virus it must be bad - so for the rest of my playtime on that file I kept it and all the other infected Pokémon away from my main party; who for the longest time I never put in the PC for fear of spreading the infection.

Has anyone else hatched a shiny pokemon?

The only time that happened to me was in diamond (the game where I found the most shinies ever), it's a remoraid. I have it in my white 2 cart. Still level 1. It's too cute to evolve.

Not yet, I'm masuda methoding right now for a shiny rotom to use online. I have 6 boxes filled with no luck, I'm not stopping till i get it though. My join avenue has a promotion going on where everything is cheaper, so eggs are cheaper to hatch each day. It has 4 days left.

Anyway my first shiny was a glameow in peral. I was training my riolu on my older bros game near sunnyshore and out came a purple glameow. I had forgotten shinys existed until that appeared so i caught it and raised it. It is now in my black 2 at level 100 as a purugly. I still use it in some battles and will never release it. It is what has inspired me to hunt shinys. I now have many more bewtween catching them, chaining a few and hunting them. I have yet to hatch one but i am trying to now as stated above. I have only soft reseted for 1 pokemon, my shiny chickorita in my current heartgold file. I decided to restart the game since it was the only game to give me 2 shinys(beside black) excluding the gyrados, and both of them were in the same day, a psyduck and magicarp. Within 3 hours of restarting i got a shiny chickorita, so i hope by the end of the campaign i can catch another excluding a 3rd red gyrados.

hahaha! looks like shiny pokemon have a way to attract other memorable situations along with them to everyone! I bet the ones who don't remember had one of those "I don't understand what's happening" moments(other than the shiny) that came along with their different colored pokés too!

Mine was a shiny Pidgey in Leafgreen, back when i was just a kid, although i still thought "whoa...that's pretty cool and i caught it, and placing it in the pc, forever forgotten. Then years later I encountered a shiny Machop in Diamond, and I was thrilled!

My first ever Shiny Pokemon was a Koffing in FireRed. It proceeded to Explode immediately.

I actually had two encounters. My first encounter was a Pink Mareep in the Safari Zone in Pokemon Emerald. I was probably six or seven years old when I played the game. I went ape-crap when I saw the Pink Mareep. Sure, I was trying to find my favorite Pokemon, Aipom when I looked where he was on the Pokedex. After 30 minutes of searching, I did not find Aipom. Instead, this pink piece of fluff showed up in my face. I was terrible at the Safari Zone, so I was about to cry if it ran away. Luckily, Emerald wasn't a complete a-hole and actually let me catch it. I still have it in one of the Generation III or IV games. Hopefully, it's not in my glitched up Pokemon Pearl from using the AR Card too much. To this day, I have never found one Aipom in the Safari Zone in Emerald.

My second encounter was something typical. It was in Black 2. Between the release day in October for the US to sometime in January, I played for at least one hour everyday. According to my 3DS Activity Log, I have clicked the Pokemon Black 2 application nearly 400 times and I have played the game for just over 230 hours. It's what you would except after spending half your life on the game. I was obsessed with one game for three months. I found a shiny Swablu in the Abundant Shine They are cool colors. Both of them. Swablu's golden and Mareep's pink. It's not like they slapped on a random, revolting color. I like them.

The only one I've ever seen was Lunatone on Saphire version. It had blue/red eyes instead of red/blue. I caught it.
I'm pretty sure Lunatone has red eyes usually, but I'm not quite sure. I know it had a different colored eyes than it usually does.

My brother on the other hand, has found 10, I think. Not quite sure on the exact number, but I know it was more than 5.

I was able to catch a shiny caterpie; that has been the only shiny I've (fairly) seen. My friends however, have seen a few more. My one friend has caught three shinies, with two of them surprisingly being pidgeottos/pidgy. Another friend of mine was unlucky enough to find a shiny starly right at the beginning of the game, before he could even get any pokeballs! D:

I have no clue how he does it. He was playing Pokemon constantly for a little while.
My speculation is that there's a pattern/method for finding them.

Your name combined with your secret trainer id may make shinies easier or harder to find, so some people who found lots on a single file simply got a lucky combination.

Well there is several methods to increase the chance of finding one: soft resetting,( doesn't increase it but makes it easier) chaining with the pokeradar (4th gen games only), masuda method( breeding only) and use of the shiny charm which gives a 300% increase in the chance of encountering a shiny making the odds a 1 in 2,370.6 chance. For masuda method the odds are 1 in 1024.
