I've been trying to clear a backlog of games myself. I managed to finish BotW before I got Odyssey for Christmas, and am impatiently awaiting Xenoblade Chronicles 2 for my birthday (in April). There's a ton of games I would really love to play right now, but with the backlog I have, it'll be a while. One thing I have decided though is to have a per-system backlog. So for Switch, once I finish Odyssey, I will allow myself a game, which will be XC2. I also have a 3DS, which I need to finish several games for, but once I feel like I have that backlog under control, I will likely get Metroid 2: Samus Returns. As for PC, there's tons of backlog there, with me currently working my way through the Elder Scrolls Online.
Of course, there's always Animal Crossing: New Leaf, which I consider a continuous game, one that has no way to truly end. It'll probably 'end' once the next in the series comes out.
I'm with you brother! Though this'll be easy for me! Last new game I got was for Christmas. I am on a "Buy as few games as possible" program xD The ones I really want I will still want later down the road, and they'll be cheaper to boot. There are also tons of games I have that I haven't played, or played enough, or whatever. Good luck, dude!

God loves you
One of my resolutions this year is a limit of only buying 5 games this year. Going to be tough seeing as don't even know most of the switches line up yet. But I think it will be an interesting challenge and let me work on some of my backlog. Added bonus = more money.
Oh god, I'd never last on one of these bans. My backlog is like 70+ games, and growing. I can't possibly play through them at the rate I buy them, but I am also a collector, so I end up buying the collector editions and limited editions through pre-orders. Feelsbadman.
I don't have that kind of self control....lol. Although my back log is growing on switch so perhaps I should space out the purchases.

@GrailUK Ha It doesn't really work like that with me, I don't buy many games at launch, most of my games are bought used on eBay, so the number of new releases doesn't particularly affect me.
My main problem comes from browsing eBay habitually nearly every morning and evening to see what's going at a good price. I have a dog to walk each morning and evening, so it just kinda developed as part of my daily routine now my dog's slowed down. He's a stubborn ****** and whilst he's capable of brisk walking still, he chooses not to, so to pass the time I hit the 'bay, and when you're browsing games across about 7 different platforms, it's not too difficult to come across one you've heard good things about at a tempting price.
@gcunit I'm in kind of the same position as you except I only own one system.I don't set myself any limits on how many retail/Eshop I buy, I can afford it and due to working from home I have enough free time to play. I just buy what I know/think I want to play but my problem is there's too many of these kind of games on Switch and I buy them way before I'll ever get round to playing them. Like you games like Rocket League take up a huge amount of my gaming time so I'm not even tickling my back log,yet in the last 2 weeks I've bought 10 more games, several Pinball FX 3 tables, nearly every car in the Rocket League showroom and even some loot crates, which I had rotten luck with. It's getting ridiculous and I'm now calling a halt to these excesses. From now until Kirby and then Mario Tennis Aces and Dark Souls I'm limiting myself to the Psyko shoot-em-ups (day one), the occasional Arcade Archives or Neo Geo classic and hard to pass up indies like Outlast 1&2'Layers of Fear and Detention. I'll get the Street Fighter Collection too and will buy the games I've missed like Skyrim and LA Noire. I'm still not tempted by Xenoblade 2,X put me off the series to the point I've no interest in it . Hyrule Warriors is very tempting though as I skipped it on Wii U. I want to buy Donkey Kong too but I've already played it so it's a purchase that can wait for a rainy day.
@gcunit: I wish you luck! I've made it to where I'm buying one game a month barring any really good sales that pop up. I rarely preorder anything these days unless I know I'll be playing it right away. It's done wonders for both my budget and backlog. I've slowly been making my way through it; I'm down to roughly 20 games, though over half of them are RPGs....I've started trying not to purchase so many long ones.
It also helps that I'm only juggling two systems right now, three if you count my small DS backlog. I promised myself that I wouldn't get a Switch until the vast majority of my Wii U games have been played.
@gcunit I would say I am guilty of this this too. Sometimes those sales are just too good to pass up, but that seems to happen way too frequently. Video gaming is not what it was when I was younger. The days are gone when getting games is was limited by what is out there. Today there is no shortage of literally anything I want at any time. Even price is much less of an issue, as games have not really increased much over time. I remember games being between $40 and $60 even in the 80's and 90's. So over all the price is better than it use to be. But add in the retro games and sales on slightly older games and things like Humble, acquiring a large amount of games for a small cost is really easy to do.
I am in. No doubt I have more than a few games that I should be playing.
And you are right, just spending a little time on Ebay can get you some great games for a very reasonable price.
You have a few more systems that I do, so my buying is a little more limited, but that does not seem to stop me from looking for good deals when I think I "really" need that new game.
@gcunit I have no paticular wish or need to join you. If people want to say I am addicted to buying games, I would ask where the problem is. So long as we do not spend beyond our means, I see nothing wrong with it. It's only really a negative if we are spending more than we can afford.
Also I am surprised you consider Vita and 3DS as current gen. Personally I would not, despite both of them lacking a direct successor.

I'm joining you, but because I'm strapped for cash and I decided to save by going through my backlog - I got thousands of hours there waiting - instead of buying. I'm going to wait until there's a sale on Switch games to take a plunge.
Nothing I really even want to buy until Payday 2 for the Switch so I guess I'm doing it too. Just ordered Resident Evil Revelations online yesterday and that was pretty much the last game on my wishlist that's out right now.

This is a good plan. I was going to start gradually stockpiling Switch games, but I'll probably be better off waiting for a little while. A game like Skyrim will probably drop in price before too long; Nintendo games...probably not so much. I'm also waiting for a true bundle to show up here in the US versus the "Hey, here's a Switch and a game for it, both at full price!" bundles. I'm sorry, but I don't call that a true deal.
Currently playing: Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana (Switch), Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Trials and Tribulations (Switch)

Yeah, I was waiting for some kind of bundle or deal, but my wife caved and got me one for Christmas along with Odyssey and Kingdom Battle because they were on a BOGO 50% off deal. Then I bought Zelda, but that will probably be the only game I ever buy at full price. I really want Skyrim and L.A. Noire, but I'm sure they will come down in price like they did on the other consoles. And I only buy eShop games that are on sale. There really is never any need to pay full price for a game if you just have a little patience.
@gcunit LOL, I was just giving you a hard time. I figured that you got the game before you decided to take a break from buying.
But I guess, I just had to take the opportunity while it was there. You know like an accountability group, lol.
Have a great day,
