So I havent played my Switch in a couple of months but when I tried to play again everything was in german or some language, I obviously had been hacked. I call nintendo and they tell me the hacker used my saved creditcard to buy fortnite points, about 200$. They tell me they are gonna send me an email to call someone. I get the email and call and the lady tells me they won't be refunding me ''because of the time frame'' ?? WHAT? What does that mean? What time frame? What are you talking about? She says she cannot tell me more then that, but they won't be refunding me ''because of the time frame''.
So TLDR : Get hacked while you arent playing, get your credit card charged, don't get your money back ahah rekt deal with it.
I got hacked and I dont feel safe anymore with Nintendo, and ON TOP OF that they dont refund even though their ''security system'' didn't prevent any of that.
This is the worst I've ever been treated by a company.
Think twice before trusting them with your money people.
@Tbarnak Well one, did you do everything you can to make sure they still don't have your money(I know this sounds stupid I just would like to know so please don't take it the wrong way) two I'm so sorry this happen'd to you and over crappy fortnite money, and three, when they say time frame maybe you got hacked months ago, you said you haven't played in months. Edit: also put two step if you haven't.
It was months ago yeah. But if they don't wanna refund me cause of that why not just tell me? And what justifies that? Should I start logging on my PS4 XBOX STEAM PAYPAL MICROSOFT store everyfew days cause they cannot refund after some months? This is the first time i don't get a refund when what happened was obvisouly out of my controll, even months after the event. This is so scummy. And yeah i changed everything and set up a 2way but im done with this company they lost all my trust im not registering my paypal/creditcard in there ever.
@Tbarnak I never save a card, ever just in case I get hacked, again i'm so sorry this happen'd t you and I wish nintendo would refund it for you, I hope you can still injoy there games.
Nintendo are like woman, You love them for whats on the inside, not the outside…you know what I mean! Luzlane best girl!

Sorry for not being active much recently, but I’m very much alive!
@kkslider5552000 ok ok. And how would you double down? Im Thinking about calling my bank or paypal even if it ends up with nintendo blocking my account afterward, im just not doing it cause my gf is really enjoying Zelda right now
@Tbarnak Sometimes talking to the manager can yield more positive results. So, if you called Nintendo back, you could ask to speak with the customer service manager. It's a bit of a long shot, but if you're nice, and talk to the manager, maybe they can do something. It can't hurt to ask. I've seen this sort of thing help some situations. And I've seen some coworker reps at a previous job that are just lazy & unhelpful, but a manager can be more flexible.
@Tbarnak You're allowed to say "tabarnak" on this site, I believe. You simply have to avoid posting your entire message en joual.
If Nintendo doesn't co-operate (that is, giving you the runaround, blaming you directly), you are totally within your rights to call your bank/financial institution (the one that issued the card, obviously). First of all, two months is not a long time; if it had been nine months, I might understand better.
I strongly, strongly doubt that Nintendo will cancel your account just because you opened a dispute file with your bank - that could look very bad for Nintendo if this escalates. Just document your interactions with them carefully and keep the evidence/correspondence on hand. I mean, by their own admission, your account has been frauded, you're not to blame here.
I should also say that reviewing your credit card every month or two is definitely a good idea.
Please let us know how this turns out. Soyez fort, bonne chance!

If the breach happened months ago, there's nothing you can really do about it I'm pretty sure. You have to react right when it first happened in order to get money back, or to file something for your bank I'm pretty sure.

@COVIDberry I dunno about Nintendo, but I've heard quite a few people online talk about their PSN accounts getting banned after disputing a charge.
@Tbarnak How on Earth do you not notice the suspicious charges for several months? Anyway, very, very few companies are going to willingly refund you money for charges made months in the past. Hell, Nintendo and Sony are super squirrely even if you accidentally purchase the wrong thing on the eshop and immediately contact them to rectify the issue.
Never trust these companies with access to your paypal or credit card if there's an alternative. You can very easily buy eshop cards at a grocery store and use those when you want to purchase something digitally. And always, always have 2FA enabled.
@Ralizah If anything if they dispute a charge I would think that they just wouldn't allow them to use credit cards on that account anymore.
@Tbarnak I can see where they are coming from two months is a long time to ask for a refund. I am just confused as to why it took you this long to notice a suspicious charge on your credit card. Most credit cards or banks have an app that you can use to keep an eye on your account all the time, some even have alerts when a charge is made on that card that so you know immediately when a charge is made. So as I can say it does sound odd to them and they are just being precautions.

I'm sure you're correct, and that people have received this kind of contemptuous treatment from the platform holders. I think this is the case because they believe we "consumers" to be ignorant of our rights; because this hobby tends to skew younger, many of those who suffer from fraud or malfeasance don't fight back. Financial institutions, however, have several options in cases like these, right up to the old chargeback - they're well aware of how much fraud occurs around electronic gaming. That's why the OP should try to resolve it with Nintendo first, and go to the bank if there is no satisfaction forthcoming.
It's a pain in the undercarriage, but the OP and gamers in general need to contact their banks and get the machinery rolling if they fall victim to this...
@VoidofLight@Tasuki Two months is NOT a long time to seek restitution for fraud from your financial institution. At least not in civilized jurisdictions...
@COVIDberry Two months is a long time. I mean why would you not check your account for two months? I have a few accounts myself one is my primary, the one I use for everyday spending and I have a few saving one and even the savings ones I check at least once a week. Something just doesn't add up right.

Your practice of regularly checking your accounts is quite sound, and I hope people will learn that much.
I don't want to be contentious with you, because it seems we have a real difference in understanding here. Have you ever disputed a charge with your bank? The OP is in Canada, as far as I can tell; and in this country that is definitely not too long a time to resolve a matter like this. He should report this to his financial institution as soon as possible, though.
I also note that the link mentions absolutely no arbitrary time limit for reporting credit card fraud. Nonetheless, it should be reported ASAP, wherever you may be...
