There isn't a RPG Maker Thread currently and there is a new RPG Maker coming out soon. Didn't want to derail another thread so figured I would make this.
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

@Seacliff: I made a different thread for RPG maker. Is the new RPG Maker more customizable without going too far into scripting or does it need more scripting to really customize your experience? I got VX Ace in Humble Bundle and I might just wait for a price drop before upgrading to the new one.

I tried it once many, many years ago but I didn't like it. It was too restricted in how I could make a game. But I prefer making my own engines anyway.

Restricted how?....Which version did you play, because you can pretty much make any kind of RPG in XP.

Keep it PG-13-ish.
@SuperWiiU: Kudos man! That's the power of custom engines. The ability to make your own game! I don't understand why many would want other engines unless they don't have deep knowledge of programming like me for instance.
Also, I feel like its very scripted. Does this engine also allow SRPG's as well? You know? Like Fire Emblem?
@Artwark: People have been able to do very interesting things in RPG Maker with lots of scripting knowledge, but normally it does not allow for SRPG. At least I am pretty sure it doesn't.

Oh, so basically something like Fire Emblem then...I think it's possible, not entirely sure. I don't know much about scripting/programming, so I can't really say.

It is pretty crazy what people can do with RPG Maker with scripting honestly.
-Backstory time no one probably cares about-
When I first started my interest in to game development back when I was... 12ish? RPG Maker was my first choice as a game engine, but at the time I believe a legit version required money, so instead I got GameMaker 7.0 Lite instead. While it was a tiny bit more complicated than RPG Maker at first glance due to its more open structure, I got the hang of it. Over time I'll admit I started to look down RPG Maker, I saw too many people just making vanilla games with already there assets and started to assume that is all there was to it. It wasn't until my senior year of high school, where I began to give RPG Maker a bit more respect. Once I finally used the program for school and FBLA projects my perspective began to change, I saw the custom stuff people were doing using scripting and I finally began to see it for what it was: a template. Your only limit was your resourcefulness and imagination, you could literally use it to create a variety of things and that impressed the crap out of me. While I still prefer to make my own engines (in other more open engines) like @SuperWiiU, I can see why someone would want to use RPG Maker, it is incredibly more versatile than you think.
With about six weeks until the Switch release my hype is slowly building. The script for the game I plan on making is up to 1,400 words. I'm not sure how broad I want to take the story, and I've never written something of this length outside of academic work. But those creative juices are flowing.
Switch Physical Collection - 1,241 games (as of March 23rd, 2024)
