Topic: Nintendo Network Servers Down...

Nintendo's online servers are down due to high volumes of traffic...what's going on? This is just like the time that Pokemon Bank released except nothing big has released since X at the beginning of the month...>_<

Servers go down. It happens. No need to flip out.

@Yoshi I know that sheesh. It's just surprising considering the NA servers should be all but dead in-terms of activity at this late hour, so the fact that the servers are experiencing high activity suggests a DDoS attack could be occurring. That's usually way worse than a simple server outage...

Just letting the community know about the issue.

Maybe it's some basement hacker angry about the new Smash characters and wants revenge by hacking into Nintendo Network? So that he/she doesn't allow others to purchase Cloud? 😄😆

@Neko_Ichigofan: Cloud as Smash DLC is much bigger than X so I think it's just lots of people buying Cloud + Midgar.

@Grumblevolcano but why did it only become an issue now...and why during a normally inactive time when most people in most of the most populous regions are either sleeping or at work/school?

FWIW: Nintendo mentioned on the Smash Direct that it might be traffic issues when Cloud was released on the eShop. And now Minecraft releases...

But Minecraft doesn't release for another 9 hours here.

If I did my math correctly, the maintenance still has some time to begin. So it's not the reason of what is happening now.

I wasn't talking about the planned maintenance. I meant the message I get when trying to access the web page I mentioned.

Hmm. According to the network status page they aren't doing any maintenance at the moment. Althrough "Unable to connect to the network service. (...) Wednesday, December 16, 2015 10:01 PM Pacific Time Ongoing" is the thing right now. It seems like it began 7AM here and it is still going.

Sure, that's what Nintendo wants us to think. To cover up the fact that their servers are down due to an attack. Can't you all comprehend the truth? Reggie is one of the lizard people and Nintendo built the pyramids in 1889!!!

I think Splatoon is just a part of it. Even though there is a Splatoon update arriving in 12+ hours, that's probably pretty minor compared to the upcoming Minecraft release in a few hours.

Yeah, obviously a DDoS attack. I did it myself from my office over at Sony Headquarters. Silly Nintendo fans never saw it coming.

If anyone actually bothered to check, it is maintenance for Minecraft. Also, there is on-going maintenance, from 10:01pm Pacific Time on Wednesday December 16th, and it is still on-going. It states it will affect ALL NETWORK SERVICES.
