@Princess_Lilly, @TheRealKyleHyde, the discourse popped up around a lot of reviews around excessively fan-servicy games like Gun Gun Pixies & a few harem visual novels (while many of the games probably were/are pretty mediocre, there tended to be a bit of a vibe of condensation from the reviewer around the subject matter itself). There was even controversy around one of the Sword Art Online reviews where the piece called out fan-service (and as far as I'm aware, those games aren't even any worse than your bog standard JRPG in terms of the stuff. Certainly not on the level of Senran Kagura or the like).
Pretty much all of this happened in the couple years after XC2's release, which seemed to cause a huge discourse around fanservice around here. There was always some of that before then (with censorship controversies surrounding Tokyo Mirage Sessions & some of the 3DS Fire Emblem games), but XC2 seemed to be the tipping point.
In case you need a laugh or a reminder, there was outrage there was!!!
@Rambler it’s odd for what is meant to be a blandly pleasant site to have so much much homophobia from the users even regulars. I feel sorry for them, pride and gay weddings are the best parties so they are missing out!
I remember to Sonic frontiers review was really bad. 4/10 is too low for a pretty decent experience. Personally, I’d go for the IGN route and rate it a 7/10.
.
The NintendoLife YouTube video on Frontiers basically said it was an insanely good game and made it sound like a 9/10 so the 4/10 on the site was especially funny. I guess it averages out over the multiple opinions.
@Rambler I have noticed it’s become a common dog whistle now for people to say “I don’t do politics” to mean “I’ve got far right views on equality but I mostly try not to talk about it” so they see a “neutral” site like this as an okay place to talk about how Disney needs to stop promoting the gay illness or the solution to the gay problem is for them to have their own city away from straight people.
There are people who also say “I don’t do politics” to mean they are too much of a silly billy to understand politics as well though.
There are probably some more controversial than this niche game. But Snow Bros special on switch got evaluated by a reviewer who had a strong distaste for the arcade game itself (back from the 80s), and it showed in all his article of opinion. It was a weird thing to read. Check it out for yourself!
