I suppose this was the time when Walt Disney had a serious animator's block and didn't know what to do.
And perhaps there was some correlation to what Mickey was experiencing, and what Walt himself was experiencing. Not for the same reasons, but perhaps Walt was depressed with his life at the point.

Yup. I'm a big fan of watching the really old cartoons and they were quite violent! With that said, this is really not that surprising to me
