The laptop I got for Christmas has Windows 8 installed on it and I want to put my pictures and picture folders into a specific order but it won't let me.

Windows 8 is everything Windows 7 is but greatly improved.

I dont know about that. I tried Windows 8 and I just didnt like it. I can see it being good for like a tablet or a phone but a desktop or laptop, gimmie Windows 7 any day.

Easiest way would probably be to prefix each image with a number, and then right-click > sort by > name.

Also, Windows 8 is Windows 7-based, boots (from shut-down) in seconds and runs approximately 10% faster. I won't deny there's very definitely a steep learning curve what with the absence of the Start Menu and the whole Metro front-end, but once you've played with it for a while and got used to how it works, its actually nice to use. Certainly not worse than Windows 7 by any stretch, nor is it in any way broken (like Windows Vista and Windows Me were).

For example, the lack of start menu will have you cursing how difficult it is to track down programs that aren't pinned to your desktop, Taskbar or Start Page (such as Calculator or Paint). Until you discover that you can hit the Win Key and immediately start typing the name of the program. It's actually faster, and easier (and mouse-free, yay) than going Start > All Programs > Accessories > Paint.

Don't write Windows 8 off just yet. Gabe Newell's tirade last year certainly lost it favor with the masses, but its by no means a bad operating system.
