Well, Iwata did once say that Nintendo considers its competitors to be more than just video game companies; anything that occupies the idle freetime of the masses is in competition with Nintendo products, including YouTube. So Nintendo stands to benefit.
But god help us if it passes, because even Nintendo won't be enough to make up for all we'll lose in the long run.

i agree that there should be laws in place to stop piracy. but, from what i understand the SOPA law looks like it`s going above and beyond what is really necessary. this maybe a bit far fetched, but i wonder how much SOPA would encroach on the rights of freedom of speech and shared information. i`m sure something like that would need to be considered before putting anything like SOPA through. although i doubt that it would be.
Sigh. More overreaction to this, yet again. Please everyone, educate yourselves on the reality of the existing laws and proposed laws (i.e., read for yourselves, not getting the info second or third hand), and you'll realize that all this doomsaying is hyperbole. Lawyered.
It's like, I just love a cowboy
You know
I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad
But I'm just like
Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!
maybe if your not from america that is, i however am not from there and choose not to scoff at the idea that this can happen, im not being a panic about this however im not just going to blindly relax in a world full of ticked off people

Um, look at who is on each side if you want further confirmation of the danger here. Google, Wikipedia, Twitter, and many others who have shaped the web have been very vocal that this bill could endanger the internet as we know it (Wikipedia has even mulled a complete shut-down in protest). On the other side? Lawmakers who have openly admitted to not understanding the internet, and the usual suspects of big copyright holders.
The law is a big deal. We don't know exactly how it would play out, but it's a very dangerous measure if you care about keeping the web open.

So typical. Washington is concerned with infringing on free speech, to insure the entertainment industry bigwigs aren't out a penny from somebody watching a movie on YouTube instead of renting. Then, when it comes to measures such as unemployment insurance to help the millions struggling in this economy, that's secondary in importance.
Perhaps what these politicians who are firmly in the pockets of the rich; actors, musicians, executives, etc. in this case; fail to understand is that when the average American has no money for entertainment because they're spending their money on food and bills, it's also hurting those poor millionaires!
OK, I'm getting off my soap box now, before I go too far.
Let's attack aggressively, kupo! :D

Hahaha, this is delightfully ignorant. Just because a law is getting more media attention does NOT mean it's necessarily more important to the lawmakers. Have you even watched a session of Congress? I know it's boring but you'll get a better idea of what's going on (not much tbh)

unfortunately, we have not learned that it is much easier to give up rights than to regain them. for those who feel this legislation is no big thing, that it won't be enforced i suggest you look behind the scenes to the sponsors. dam breaks often begin with a small trickle; eventually the dam will be breached.
consider: 'Since the beginning of the 2010 election cycle, the 32 sponsors of the bill have received almost 4 times as much in campaign contributions from the movie, music, and TV entertainment industries ($1,983,596), which support the bill, as they have received from the software and Internet industries ($524,977), which believe the language goes too far' http://maplight.org/content/72896
Did I forget to mention that many "bigwigs" are voting against this bill?
you did. you also 'forgot' to provide source(s) for this information. that's one of those 'i'll believe it when i see it' kinds of things, lol.

this is ridiculously naive. sponsoring laws such as this equate to big bucks for the sponsors. do you think the main action takes place on the floor of congress? again, naive.

It's also naive to consider ALL government officials the same. Believe me, they aren't. Just because some are corrupt and support big business doesn't mean they ALL do.
@lz: no, it doesn't mean they ALL do, but Big Business doesn't have to control all of them when enough will do the job just fine.
we're tiptoeing on the edge of some touchy stuff up in here... please be careful not to make it personal, guys :3
