When I watched anime, a tv show, or a movie. I read the English subtitles on anime shows, and if I can’t remember the last English subtitles being read, I’d rewind back to the old English subtitles I just read on the show. Also, if I’m watching a TV show in English, and because usually the actors/characters talk fast, I can’t understand what they’re saying, so I also rewind back to the words they say in order for me to understand it. This causes me to not finish watching an anime episode or TV show episode in time for longer than the episode length.
Usually, when playing a game. I’d read the same line and paragraph about 3 or more times. Sometimes, I do this when reading an online article. What should I do?
@LinkxPeach Since spanish isn't my first language, I struggle to follow fast speaking spanish tv. Other than subtitles & rewinding, I'm not aware of another solution. @Heavyarms55 grew up in the US, now teaches in Japan, any recommendations? @Eel speaks spanish, learned english for games, if I remember correctly? @Eel, any chance you can make a recommendation? I know it's a longshot question.
Well in my case it definitely helped that I started absorbing English media as a kid. I'd think.
Maybe try focusing on the subtitles until you improve your levels of information retention, then you can try keeping them in your peripheral vision. Focus.
If that fails, maybe watch in English with English subtitles to combine both worlds and increase your chances. If they talk too fast, pause for a second and read instead.
