I had a bad experience attempting to cash a check at Walmart today. A relative sent me a check in the mail. I tried to get it cashed at their service desk. So anyway they were about to cash it and everything was going smoothly. After i entered my social it immediately got declined.
Only thing i can think of that went wrong possibly is a bad check or something is going funky with my social security number. I trust the source of the check and i know i entered the correct number.
I do however have a card with an old last name i used to go by when i was adopted as a child but as i understand it your social number never changes regardless of any name changes you may have had.
So yeah there's my problem. I called the number on the receipt to debate it and it's basically telling me what i already know. It doesn't explain exactly what caused the issue.
@Truegamer79 Since Walmart isnt' a bank, I imagine they've got limitations. I would think your check would work fine at your bank, granted that may not be as convenient, depending on how close you live to your bank. And if your bank is closed for the night/weekend, I think the ATM at your bank probably allows check deposits - my bank always has.
