Didn't see a specific thread on this sport, so I thought I'd make one. I'm trying to get into this sport just recently. Went to a driving range yesterday evening after work with two other guys here and actually ended up picking it up fairly well from the start I'd say. For a real beginner at least . With the driver I was hitting it up to around 125 yards. Can't say that was my average though, as I still have several that didn't go quite that well. With the 9 wood, I was making it to about 100 yards (when I'd get a good hit in). Anyone have any suggestions or tips on how to play? Anything thing is, is there a good way to get some good practice with this sport, without spending hundreds of dollars??

Yes Just as the windmills blade goes by just tap the ball in. Not to hard or it will fly off the course and not to soft otherwise you will hit the other blade.

Well, I guess that helps with putting anyway . How about if I hit it in a giant clowns mouth and it spits it back out at me and laughs?

Practice practice practice really. One way though to get used to your swings is find a field somewhere and hit some pinecones around. Thats what my brother in law suggested and hes a pretty **** good golfer himself. If the field is flat and long enough and if no one gives a gripe what you do out there then maybe get some cheap tees and some golf balls and whack them around out there.

Sounds like it's really something you just have to go out and do to find your game. Just like any other sport in that aspect I guess. I'm trying to get a lot of practice before going out to a course at all. Thanks for the tip

I'm in kind of a similar situation in that I've always liked golf, but I've only ever done mini-golf and crazy-golf (and Mario Golf of course), I've never played proper, full-on golf and I'd quite like to (I suppose if I did, my driving and chipping would be awful, but my putting would be off the hook and I'd pull it all back with that!) I'd always just assumed that it's probably a bit of a hassle to get into as they wouldn't let noobs on a course. However there's a golf club near me that has an accessible "family" course with all par 3 holes and they provide all the equipment. I might give it a try as I guess it wouldn't matter too much if I stunk up the place.

Yeah you really do kinda have to go out there and see. You will find that you might actually be decent with certain clubs. Like for me I've always done great with a certain 4W I have above all my other clubs. With all that practice though at the driving range you might want to play one game, just to see what clubs you really suck with and it will give you an idea what you want to work on most. Also at the driving range, while the driver is fun, try to work on your iron games and a wedge or two as well lol.
