My parents were (and still are) greatly restrictive over what I could play. In fact that's the main reason why I haven't gotten into real gaming until a few years ago, and why even now I'm Nintendo only.
But one franchise in particular that stands out is Pokemon. You can skip the rest if you want since this post is going to be really long.
Now my parents, as well as myself, are Christians, so when they found out that the games (or rather the anime, since that's what they knew about first) involved magic, dark powers and such, I was immediately boycotted from it. It was never fully explained to me at the time why I wasn't allowed to watch the show, so naturally I got curious and saw a few episodes in secret and didn't really see what was so bad about it. Later on I understood why, and appreciate my parent's diligence, but now things are just getting ridiculous. For some reason, while they disapprove of anything involving magic and witchcraft in games (also extreme bloody violence, but I don't like those types of games anyway), if I so much as mention Pokemon they attack it incessantly, saying it's "of the devil" and the like. I'm 18 years old, and well beyond the easily impressionable age, and my potential interest in the series has grown quite a bit, so I might just turn the tables at some point. Yet at the same time I want to respect them. Even so, I've already gone behind their backs and have played Fire Emblem games, which I'm sure they wouldn't like.
Oh my, people once again not allowed to play Pokémon because of some fake devil (not Jewish, just don't believe it), for me I was allowed to play anything because in the end, it's all fiction...sadly enough
My Mom was really restrictive against Harry Potter for a while, that was more while my sister was really young then when I was. I struggled for years to be able to get games with Mild Language, I've passed that now I'm getting her to let me get games with Language a lot more now. I also used to have trouble with Mild Suggestive Themes, now it's not really an issue and I can have a few select really good games with Suggestive themes (Uncharted and Arkham). My mom presents a challange on games with crude humor, I tried to get Little inferno about 7-9 months ago, but couln't get sadely, I can get some games with it though, it's not always no. My mom has always been a bit weary of magic and stuff too, I've never really seen the problem when it's in a fictional universe though, I just see it as same idea as superpowers. In most fiction it's just the human fantasy to do the immposible and amazing. My dad hasn't been against magic and was a big instermunt in Harry Potter becoming okay too. I'm glad I haven't just been able to play anything, but I think it kind of goes overboard sometime.
@KiDasharus Dude, SMTIV is one of the few really tame M-rated games. Apart from certain swears and some OtP blood, I don't see why it wasn't rated T. If you want my two cents, I just suggest you have parent permission to play it or something, cause it really ain't that bad... (heck, it's not even that dark in its themes. Devil Survivor [which was rated T] was much worse in the story themes and decisions it covered).
@KiDasharus I joined this site when I was 14, so I totally would've been able to relate if my parents weren't oblivious about video-games in the first place (as long as I get good grades, which means 95% and above ).
The title needs work. u____u
But I am 5 and I can play anything I want so~

So...which institution are your parents in? I'm Catholic, but I'm not psycho. If your thoughts can be swayed so quick by a fictional story that involves a fictional idea known as magic, then you aren't a good Christian. End. Of. Story.
I never had this problem, mostly likely because I didn't get many games as a kid
But a friend of mine wasn't allowed to play OoT, because it had demons in it. His mom said, that OoT is the devil, and I agree.
For you, the day LordJumpMad graced your threads, was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday. [url=http://www.backloggery.com/jumpmad]Unive...

I never really tried to play anything other than Pokemon or Zelda when I was a kid so I never got any games that weren't appropriate or something since all my games were bought by my parents with very little input from me.
COD and other bloody games(i still dont play)...ok i was on my friend ps2 and we were playing cod on his ps2(i had a gamecube) and i cryed and cryed..i had nightmares for weeks and thats why i only play tactical rpgs and platformers .
Playing: Wargroove on Switch and Fire Emblem on GBA

We're what some may call "non-denominational" in other words we go completely by what God and His Word says and don't fit into any particular religious group, as confusing as that sounds.
I would also go on about how magic, at least in the form of witchcraft, is in fact real, but I don't want to start any arguments.
goodbyes are a sad part of life but for every end there's a new beggining so one must never stop looking forward to the next dawn

I wasn't allowed to play Wolfenstein 3D because it was too realistic. My parents didn’t really mind the violence but they did mind the fact that they where human and Nazis.
I clearly remember watching my dad break the floppy disk while I yelled out ‘but dad.. I’m killing the Nazis!’. He then gave me back the money I had spend on Wolf3D to buy the latest Commander Keen
I actually was quite lucky with my parents on that part. Doom and Mortal Kombat where never a problem (even though I was around 7 years old at the time).
only one I can think of was Conker's Bad Fur Day, I started to get interested in M rated games a bit afterwards anyway though with like GTA3 at a firend's house (also classic Doom) and my parents got me Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance for Christmas literally less than 2 years later. Even though I was only 12 and they had no idea I had even played M rated games before...and somehow I had seen more controversial entertainment when I was 10 (really into MTV before it was completely worthless).
And as for the non-denminational sect, I understand what it is, but if we're to be technical, the Catholic church was the one started by Jesus. Although I must say that we should end this discussion, as anything involving religion has the potential to become ugly.
