Personally I think New Super Mario Bros 2. should have never been made. It was easy, boring and there was nothing NEW about it.
How about you guys? What games do you think should haven't been made?
I would agree about NSMB2 but there again I am part of the problem because I bought it with the DLC (The DLC I thought was far better than the main game).

Wii Play Motion- Wii Play was a bad game, what was the reason for making a sequel?
Super Mario 3D World- "Let's stop making traditional 3D platformers that everyone loves and instead make a 3D game with 2D Platformer aesthetics and controls from 1988"- The idiot who conceived this game
Currently Playing: Steamworld Heist, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Tales of Graces F

Wii Play Motion was a free tech demo with a wiimote (From the same price as the Wiimote by itself).
Most people prefer those controls otherwise NSMBW wouldn't have outsold Galaxy by a considerable margin. Anyone can learn them trivially easily.

Critically acclaimed, and one of the best selling games on the Wii U. Yep, definitely made by idiots.

So someone is an idiot for wanting to try something different rather than do the same thing that's already been done four times? Okay then.

Didn't say that. Galaxy did something new without doing something stupid.
3D World is basically the answer to the question of "what if Miyamoto never realized 3D works differently from 2D and the analog stick never existed". That's not really a question that needed to be answered.
EDIT: Actually, 3D World isn't even the first game to do that, as 3D Land did the same idea earlier
@unrandomsam NSMB sold well because it's simpler, more familiar, and multiplayer friendly. That doesn't justify reverting to a 20+ year old control scheme when other 2D Platformers have evolved to modern controllers. If the control scheme were what did it, then 3D World and 3D Land would have sold better than they did.
I still don't see how anyone can defend the control scheme of NSMB and 3D Land/World. There is no reason analog run shouldn't be supported. There is no reason that the run button shouldn't be mapped to a more convenient trigger. There is no reason the 3 functions should be mapped to a button in the same context. There is no reason to force the player to hold a button to hold an item, rather than just having a pick up and let go function.
This control scheme was developed in 1988 for a controller with 2 face buttons, a start button, a select button, and a D-Pad. And for that controller, it's genius. But for a controller that has evolved several times, it's backwards.
I understand what the op is saying but I think the approach is misguided. It should never be a case of a game never being made. Games like New Super Mario Bros 2. that the op mentioned is a solid game. Meme Run may not be my cup of tea and I certainly will not be buying it but it is a early effort and hopefully over time he will learn how to become better both at making games and with communication. Meme Run is still technically more of a game then Big Rigs Over the Ridge Racing.
Good or bad these games are a learning expirence and even the most highly respected game designers have put out duds.
This comes to mind as well.
The question isn't whether or not they should have been made. Was the game released appropriately? To some people the game may be worth it even if we do not like it. Big Rigs should never have had a full retail release. Many people probably felt that Meme Run should have been on a phone or in a browser.
As for the game the op mentioned "New Super Mario Bros 2." I did feel that collecting coins way pushed to a point where it detracted from the main, I use this term loosely, story of saving the princess. The Golden Flower that turns everything into coins was powerful but again make it feel like Mario is more concerned about money then Peach. Now if this was a Wario game designed to spoof a Mario game to me it would have made more sense. Wario never has power ups and a money flower would work. Also instead of Princess Peach have his goal to save/liberate a golden diamond encrusted princess statue. I would have loved that game.
^What Wario games don't have Power-Ups? Anyways, I do agree that this whole "these games never should've been made!" idea is silly. We've had them in the past a couple times, and they never went anywhere good. I think most of them got locked in the end...

Haha, I think we should be friends. I understand, why certain people don't like Mario 3D World, but I think it's great. Sure, it's not as epic, or thought-out as Mario Galaxy, but I LOVE the multiple playable characters and multiplayer. So many good times at Thanksgiving . It definitely deserved to be made, just like Majora's Mask (which I don't really like, but appreciated how different it is).
For me? Just about any remake/remaster. I'm just not a big fan of demanding fans double dip to see Chie ride a moped. Yes, I agree Chie is best girl, but for $40 ...Sorry Chie, I'm going to cheat on you with an original game. I only snagged Wind Waker HD remaster because it came free with Mario Kart. Tell me when you're free Chie
The only real power up were in Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 where he had pots. In later games like Wario Land Shake it he he didn't have power up but instead items like garlic restored health.
