I just beat Metroid Prime to celebrate its 20th anniversary. I swear that game gets better and better every time I play it. I constantly pick up on new things that find new ways to optimize my time. It's just so good.

I bought Super Kiwi 64 for the Switch with the gold points I had stored and 100% finished it. The gameplay is surprisingly fun and the music is really good. I propably would have enjoyed the game even more without the weird and dark stuff.

Edit: Today I beat Andro Dunos 2. I did not know how much fun Shoot Em Up's are. It is a difficult game and I only managed to beat it because I played on the easiest difficulty, but at least I managed to reach the last stage on the normal difficulty. The music is cool too. I will try a few more times to beat the normal difficulty.

Finally beat the first Danganronpa last night. I enjoyed it for what it was, although I do wish there was more gameplay stuff outside the trials. The story was cool. At first I thought some of the characters they chose to keep alive were odd choices, but thinking back on it the ones that maybe would have been better greatly enhanced the story by the way they died. The ending was obviously kind of disappointing just because you don't really find out the truth, and then the after-credits cliffhanger, but I guess maybe the second game fixes that? Overall, glad I finally got to play this game I've heard so much about, and if I can beat Octopath Traveler before the series leaves Gamepass I'll move on to the second one.

I beat Splatoon 3. Yeah, they really found their groove with the campaign for these games since the Octo Expansion. And especially when done with a main campaign with an overworld, its pretty clear how much better this is than the first 2 games' campaigns. The only issue I had is that certain aspects were also either Octo Expansion lite or too easy, until the handful of huge jumps in difficulty.

Though I do still wish the post-apocalyptic adventure they hinted at at first happened. I dunno if a full on adventure instead of separated stages will work as well, but I think its worth a shot.

Asterix & Obelix The Ram From Hibernia is a good Asterix & Obelix game for the Switch. It is simple fun. A few little puzzles here and there and mostly beating up romans, the usual. The charme and humour is there and the atmosphere is very positive and gives a warm feeling. A lot of the music tracks are really beautiful.

By the way I used up almost all of my remaining gold points in the eshop and got Star Ocean First Departure R. It is discounted for the next ten days and costs 8,39€. I really like it and thought maybe someone else is interested in a cheap jrpg. As far as I know there is only the digital version on the Switch anyway.

Finally got around to beating Ristar after playing it on and off for the better part of a year!

What a delightful retro platformer. Levels are immensely creative, Ristar himself is an utter joy to control, bouncing up and down and all around the stages, and the music is quintessentially Mega Drive with some absolutely wonderful tracks. It's not the hardest game in the world but anyone who enjoys 2D platformers should definitely give this a go. 8/10, would definitely recommend!

So I finally ‘beat’ beat the main campaign in Splatoon 3, well over a month after I thought I’d beaten it. It’s probably not too much of the spoiler to say that there’s a secret kettle after you finish the final boss, which was apparently too secret for me to realise it existed (I think it was mentioned but I was hammering the A button and skipped through that screen).

A friend of mine who I hadn’t seen in years came over and asked me to help him complete it on his game, which is how I found out it existed. We stayed up for much longer than we should have as I played through it on his device, and finally completed it at some ungodly hour in the morning. Then I beat it again today, thankfully in much less time, on my game.

So yeah, Splatoon 3 Hero mode finally beaten (albeit not with all the weapons).

Kirby: Triple Deluxe (3DS) - Definitely a fun romp with modern Kirby, if not a bit safe at times. I did enjoy this title more than Return to Dream Land. There isn't much to the story mode; a mysterious Dreamstalk appears in Dream Land, and King Dedede is kidnapped by a mysterious figure. Naturally, Kirby gives chase. The game is beautiful and the 3D effect is used well, especially when switching between the foreground and background. The Hypernova ability/gimmick is fun for puzzle solving, and many series copy ability staples return here.

As with other Kirby titles, there are several fun side modes too. Kirby Fighters is a nice Smash Bros. type setup where Kirby knocks around other clones, Dedede's Drum Dash is a fun rhythm game, there's the classic Arena Mode, and Dedede Tour (still trying this one out) is a nice time attack mode where you can play as the King himself!

I have finished the storyline of Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town PS4 but I still have a lot of to do (post game contents).
The Town Hall requests were pretty much challenging and the amount of quantity they asked about were pretty much insane as I have to work hard my butt to get the amount of quantity to finish the request and the rewards were really useful.

Rhythm gonna hit your head.

I finally basically beat Octopath Traveler. I just finished the eighth and final Chapter 4, completing everybody's story. I know there is a final FINAL dungeon and boss, but I looked it up and it does not look fun or worth it (a 9-fight boss rush that you have to do in one sitting because you cannot save at all? No thanks!) So I consider it beaten and will probably just watch a video of the final boss fight to see how it ends.

I saw Unpacking was on Gamepass and had heard such good things I thought I'd give it a go. Just beat it and that was certainly...a thing I did. Can honestly say I have no idea what all the hubbub is about surrounding this game. The "story" was just a basic one that could have been practically anybody's in their 20s or 30s. Often I had no clue what an item was and just placed it in random places until it worked. The best things I can say are I didn't pay money for it on Switch and it didn't take very long to beat.

I recently finished 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim on the Switch. This is a very good game that I'd call a visual novel first, then a RTS/SRPG second. The VN aspects appear in the Remembrance segments that tell most of the story. The strategy aspects are used in the game's Destruction mode, where the titular 13 sentinels are used to stave off invading waves of kaiju. Combat happens in real time until a character's turn comes, then freezes until an action is chosen. Analysis mode allows the player to view previous cutscenes and reveal pieces of information integral to the game's plot, concepts, characters, and even random items (like food). The story is told in a nonlinear fashion with some aspects of the game gated behind completing certain sections in both the Destruction and Remembrance modes; Analysis mode can be used to view events in sequential order. The plot is very good, though out there.

13 Sentinels is a beautiful game with decent music, a crazy plot that'll keep the player guessing, and contains strategy elements that can be difficult in later parts of the game, depending on the difficulty settings and how many sentinel upgrades the player deigns to buy. This game is definitely one of Vanillaware's finest, but the genres involved and the storytelling won't appeal to everyone.

I beat Megaman Zero. Uh yeah, I had heard it was a bit overly difficult, even for this series and that's definitely true. One game I'm glad I went with the re-releases' options of making it easier. Limited lives is questionable for this game, its difficulty, its "there was an attempt" item system, those checkpoints were vital for me.

I still liked it overall but its very easy to be underwhelmed by it. The difficulty without the checkpoints is more annoying than adds to the experience, the admittedly clever and subtle reveal that much of the game is secretly one large overworld just seems like it makes the game feel less like a complete Megaman game and more like a half finished Metroidvania. I swear half the missions are just in the desert area too. Also it feels like it has less music than the NES games and those songs are not as good as the NES games'. It kinda feels like a rushed out experiment more than the start of a major, well liked Megaman sub-series. But y'know...the gameplay's still pretty strong, so that makes it worthwhile. But based on what I've heard, the sequels are better. I hope so. Megaman ZX is the only other game in this 6 game collection I've played before this and it was a lot better too, so I hope the others are closer to that quality.

Just finished Half-Life 2 (the base game) on the Xbox One. I've beaten the game many times on PC but never on a console.

I do not play this game, I experience it!

What a masterpiece and it was released in 2004

@Zuljaras Got the PC version when it first came out and it was beautiful, then got the Orange Box for PS3 and it was still great.

So wish they would do a giant Orange box for Switch with ALL Halflife games included (ie First game/Blue Shift and Portals etc) now that would be AWESOME!!

@Zuljaras Forgot about that one, can but dream really, as I doubt that will ever happen.

Just finished Bayonetta 3 Storyline, that will do me, don't really get why people didn't understand the ending, pretty obvious to me.
Anyways, not a bad game really, I hardly used any upgrades and once I got the Spider/YoYo weapon that's all I really used
Going back to Lego Star Wars to do the original trilogy as I did the prequels a while ago then gave myself a break, then got distracted by other games coming out.

Untitled Goose Game
Platform: Nintendo Switch
Time to Completion: 1 - 2 hours

Untitled

Here we are, the first game I've completed in 2023! I wanted to start out with something a bit light, and that I've been curious about, so I opted for Untitled Goose Game (UGG henceforth). Released in 2019, it quickly became one of those games that would get everyone repeating the same ridiculous jokes and phrases whenever it was mentioned, which quickly grew old for me. Now that the fad has faded, though, and one isn't suffered to wade through a small ocean of goose jokes and memes, the question becomes how the game has held up since its release, and especially for someone who isn't necessarily transfixed by the idea of playing as a goose.

While the marketing heavily emphasizes the chaotic or mischievous element of playing a game where a wild bird terrorizes people throughout a small town, UGG is actually a much more structured experience than one might expect. There's no plot or larger context to the events. The player is given a (vaguely sociopathic) checklist of goals to accomplish within each area, which ranges from the absurdly simple (drag a rake into a nearby pond) into more involved activities (one of the more interesting ones involves figuring out how to lure a shopkeeper out into the street so that you can record yourself on the store's security feed). UGG feels a bit like a Hitman game insofar as stealth is heavily required throughout the game, but also because the tasks you need to perform are structured like puzzles, and the bulk of the gameplay involves carefully manipulating factors in the world to achieve your goal.

This is all achieved, mind, via a limited number of player inputs. You can waddle around (slightly faster if you hold the B button), duck your head, honk, spread your wings (which seems to exist purely to play into the simulation aspect of the experience), and interact with objects via your beak. That's it. But there's a lot of things you can accomplish with a beak and an endless sense of malice, whether it's luring people into traps and then knocking pots onto their heads, tripping and terrifying children, or snatching random articles of clothing from peoples' bodies and tossing them in the creek.

Once you complete a set of tasks in an area, you'll gain access to the next area of the game. And... this is it. Unlike most modern video games. UGG's scope is very focused and limited. You won't be heading to waypoints or unlocking new skills for your goose to use. You repeat the same gameplay pattern four or five times, complete one final task that takes you back to the beginning of the game, and the credits roll. There's actually more to do afterward: completing a few post-game task lists will reward the player with a meaningless trinket for their trouble. There's nothing else to unlock or progress in, though. The entire game can be comfortably completed in a single afternoon.

It's a simple experience, then, and not a deeply fulfilling one. In a way, this feels more like the skeleton of a larger experience. Nevertheless, the game does what it does well: levels are designed to encourage stealth and player creativity; most of the puzzle solutions make sense once you realize the steps needed to achieve them, and hints can be gleaned from how the townsfolk react to various player actions; the world itself is fully interconnected once shortcuts are opened to connect the areas, like in a Souls game; and it's clear that plenty of love and attention was poured into the simulation aspect of controlling the goose, from how it adorably waddles around to the ways in which it reacts to environmental stimuli. Less attention, unfortunately, was paid to the townsfolk, whose walking animations frequently broke throughout the game. Nevertheless, if you're in the mood for a short, unique puzzle/stealth game, you could certainly do worse than Untitled Goose Game.

Ys Origin (Switch) - Technically I've finished this three times now since I've played all three routes. In the Switch version and most other versions, the player is required to beat the first two routes before the third canon route/character unlocks. While Darm Tower has the same layout each run, it's worth it to play through as all three characters; the characters' playstyles all greatly differ, and there are some different plot beats, changed dialogue, and shuffled around/different bosses help keep things fresh. The Napishtim engine gameplay is fun, fluid, and intuitive, though it can be a bit grind-y sometimes since levels DO matter. Falcom's music studio made some of their best in this game too.

It's often advised by long-time series fans to play this game either right before Ys I & II (since it's a prequel to the series) or right after (since it can spoil a few elements in I/II).
