Oh nice, unreasonable bashing of masterpieces of gaming here!
Should put a reason next to your opinion or it's worthless.

Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Great game, but definitely flawed. There's a lot of room for improvement.

Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2. Good platformers, but I found them really, really boring compared to Sunshine and 64. There were no goals aside from getting from point A to point B. Granted, that was done on purpose, but I still found them far less interesting than the previous 3D Mario games.

Red Dead Redemption. Really great game, but the overall story was pretty predictable, and there wasn't a whole lot of stuff to do in the world. The game is pretty old now, though, so I'm really excited for Red Dead 2, which will presumably be a lot more ambitious.

Minecraft. A fun idea, a solid game, and a great base for the survival genre, but I don't understand why it's still so popular.

Ocarina of Time: Amazing for its time, but it has aged pretty badly IMO.

Ni No Kuni is regarded as a masterpiece!? Always thought of it as a hidden gem (one of my favorite games of all time btw, can't wait for Revenant Kingdom!)

Final Fantasy 7 - It's just way too long, the graphics have aged horribly to the point that I can't enjoy the game in its entirety. Pulled through it once, never again)

Tales of Symphonia - I just couldn't stand the characters except for Kratos and Zelos (though a prequel with Mithos, Martel, Kratos and Yuan during the Kharlan War would be great, though!) Tales of the Abyss is a way better entry into the series.

Sin and Punishment: Star Successor- It's a good game, but the fun wears off after a each 20-25 minutes play session. I can't see any more than a 15 dollar value.

2D Mario games + 3D Land/World- I'm going to continue to get hate for it, but I just hate the control setup in these games. It made sense on the NES, but we shouldn't have grab and run mapped to the same button anymore. I feel like I'm being asked to perform acrobatics between my thumb and knuckle, to the point that my thumb just ends up hurting and I avoid complex maneuvers because the are uncomfortable.

Thems is fightin words! In fact...

Tales of the Abyss- Guy is literally the only playable character I liked. Jade got irritating after 20 minutes. Tear was a preachy hypocrite, Luke goes from whiny, to blaringly unsubtle, to preachy, Natalia is a caricature, and Anise is everything wrong about kid characters. There doesn't need to be a world map, because there is virtually nothing to discover by exploration. The boss is good up until halfway, and then it just feels like they are milking the second half.

Currently Playing: Steamworld Heist, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Tales of Graces F

I would say... first of all almost the entire jrpg genre... except very few games (Paper Mario, some Shin Megami Tensei games, Final fantasy 7) most games of this genre are exceptionally boring, shallow, clichéd.

The legend of Zelda series... they are for sure very good games but many people talk about them like they are something more than other good games - they absolutely are not imho. I'm not a big fan of Zelda games, I can see why people say they are good, they sure are good games but not as special and hugely superior to everything else as many people say.

Uncharted. I tried the first game, it was entertaining and the environment looked good back then but just one second after I got to the ending I already forgot about it. Most unremarkable game ever.

Mass effect. Played the first one, just a bad game, disappointing in every way.

Fable. I cannot believe some people like it.

The old Donkey Kong country games for Snes. Retro studios games are so immensely better. Every other Nintendo platform was much better than Rare games. Donkey Kong country 1 was ok, but nothing really special.

Final fantasy games after Final fantasy 7. They are bad and boring even compared to other jrpg games.

Skyrim. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy playing Skyrim, but Oblivion was so immensely better almost in every way. Skyrim somehow manages to keep you playing and it is fun sometimes but it is for sure disappointing compared to Oblivion. Despite that I just can't stop playing it and I can't wait to have it on Switch too. It is just extremely boring if you compare it to Oblivion.

Super Mario Galaxy 2. I love Super Mario Galaxy 1, I think it is one of the best games ever made, maybe the best of them all, but when I played the sequel I felt like most of the levels were just rejected, less interesting ideas left out from the first game where they put all the high quality ones. Many of the levels in the second game were just boring and uninteresting imo.

Games that don't allow any form of single player mode. I understand that some games if played alone cannot be as good as when you play with other people, but since I'm supposed to pay a game its full price I should be granted at least the chance to experience it by myself too. I think that games that does not allow any form of single player don't deserve the same price as other games that can be played alone.

Anti-Matter

These games are completely overrated and totally Disaster for me :

  • FIFA (The dumbest and lamest sport ever)
  • Dragon Ball series (A Never Ending Showdown much ??)
  • One Piece games (Not interested At All with ugly looking characters , Pirate themes and stupid Showdowns)
  • cod (Worst things ever. The games of merciless and evil)
  • Any Realistic Racing games such as Grand Turismo/ Need for Speed / etc. I have NO interest and Passion to drive realistic car nor even owned any Real cars.
But... except Mario Kart series. I prefer Wacky Cartoonish racing games with Items to smack your opponents.
  • Just Dance series (Dance Dance Revolution is even better than that boring dancing games. I need more Tension, even harder songs that push your limit to extraordinary level)
  • NBA series (Same, boring sport but a bit better than football)
  • Japanese RPG games with Too Much Sexy (Big boobs/ Seductive looking) or Moe girls to be exploited. Games like these are Typical selling girls for men, not selling girls to women (Fashion games or Girlie games). And sorry, I have no interest at all with those naughty sexy girls. Gimme Huge body with Big pecs and six pack body, Short or Atletic haircut, Handsome looking men with good attitude, I can drooling to watch their Gorgeous body.

AlienX

Sonic Colors - It's short, the gameplay is boring/gets old real fast, definitely some of the most annoying voice work I've ever heard in a Sonic game, nothing really happens story-wise, final boss is terribly lacking.

DS version is miles better, and that's not saying much.

Point is people praise it when it doesn't even hold a candle to Sonic Heroes.

And basically everything Anti-Matter said minus the JRPGs with Too Much Sexy (you can never have too much sexy)... j/k... Well, mostly.

Calling things overrated is overrated. Half the people who say that are picking something that's critically acclaimed and tearing it down because they're trying to be some kind of hipster. The rest of the time people are just picking something that they specifically don't like which isn't rated very highly anyways.

Thread should be titled:
"List some games you don't like and be a bit snarky about it"

Any sonic game. Don't hit me.

Pokémon to a small extent. I still love the game, but I can't understand the desire to buy every single game of every single generation, such as the upcoming US/UM.

Anything gritty. Grit is overrated. I prefer humor, fun, colors...

A few others to a lesser extent: Twilight Princess, Super Mario Sunshine, StarFox Command...

(super obvious obligatory remark) Of course, I'm only one person, so even though I don't understand others' desires, it does not mean I think they're wrong.

Oh boy...

Super Mario World - A step down from Super Mario Bros 3 in every way. I didn't like the way Mario controlled. Very few interesting power-ups besides that stupid cape. Hated the boo levels. The music is weird.

Chrono Trigger - It's a decent enough game, but hardly worthy of being compared to something like Final Fantasy VI. Forgettable characters. Unengaging combat system. The time travel mechanic is never fully exploited. The plot is nothing to write home about.

Earthbound - Shallow RPG that uses an excess of obnoxious quirky humor to make up for its shortcomings in... pretty much every other way that counts. I can't fault it for a lack of creativity, but the game underneath is just horrendously mediocre.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - Not a bad game by any stretch of the imagination, but I think it has aged poorly, and, to that extent, I don't think it's the timeless masterpiece people think it is. Barren overworld. Often cryptic game design. Just not a huge fan.

Super Mario 64 - A miserable experience all-around for me. The game is a nightmare to look at, even by N64 standards. The physics feel slippery, like Mario has been greased up in vaseline or something. Boring, empty worlds filled with terrible activities. Also, the camera is unforgivably bad. It's hard to see where I'm going most of the time. One of my all-time least-favorite Nintendo games.

Paper Mario 64 - I didn't fully play this, but I just saw nothing here that I enjoyed. It was boring. Combat was tedious. I enjoyed nothing about this game.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess - Also didn't beat this one, so I can't speak for later game content, but I enjoyed nothing about this: the visual design is ugly, it's not fun to control, the wolf link segments suck, the entire first three hours are horrible... a huge step down from The Wind Waker in almost every way.

Xenoblade Chronicles - Played this for 60 hours or so before dropping it. Empty overworld with terrible MMO-style collection subquests. Sloooooooooooooow plot that takes too long to go anywhere. Doesn't explain a lot of its mechanics well. Terrible dubbing. Unmemorable characters. A disappointing OST.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 - Felt like a level pack, in all honesty. It's missing all of the wonderful atmosphere and melancholy of the first game. The levels are incredibly linear and filled with stupid gimmicks. I'll try it again one day, but, coming off of Galaxy, I was profoundly disappointed.

Crash Bandicoot trilogy - Terrible, ultra-linear platformers filled with spotty controls, simplistic level design, and, in the case of the third game, horrible gimmicky vehicle levels.

Metal Gear Solid 3 - Didn't care for the setting or stealth system in this one. It's missing both the classic espionage feel of the first game and the mind-screwy po-mo stuff from the second game. It's still a solid entry in the Metal Gear series, but it's easily my least favorite of the original three games.

Final Fantasy X - Annoying characters. Terrible voice acting. Ultra-linear. Forces a lame underwater version of soccer on me early on. The love story is forced. Inferior to XII in every way.

Uncharted 1 - 3 - Interactive action movies. The first one is horrendous all around. The second game vastly improves on it, although too many of the setpieces (the tank section, the yeti, etc.) don't work for me, and it has a really boring villain. The third game, despite aping the second one too closely, is easily the best in the original trilogy, with some fantastic set-pieces and a fun villain. Overall, though, the games have wonky controls, an excess of climbing, and I hate how over-designed they are.

The Last of Us Boring, miserable, and filled with too much padding (busy-work involving plank or ladder dragging, sneaking around killing obnoxiously large groups of mooks). The characters are flat and tropey, the plot is very basic, and the setpiece-driven, ultra-linear style doesn't work as well for this as it does for Uncharted.

Bloodborne - Grimy Souls game with a lack of environmental diversity and the general mechanical depth I came to expect from Souls games. Also, it performs poorly on the PS4, with some really distracting frame-skipping issues.

I'm sure there are others, but these are the games that came to mind.

@Anti-Matter How is having muscular shirtless men in a game any different than having girls with big boobs in skimpy outfits? It's exploiting men in exactly the same way as it's exploiting women.
