I live in a town where the rental stores only have like 10 games for each "next gen system". I've been thinking about subscribing to Gamefly, but was wondering if it was worth the money, how long it took to get your games in the mail and if any of you have it and like it. I looked at their website earlier and it looks good, just checking to see if any of you all have it and what you think before I plunge into another monthly payment.
I'm a member of Gamefly. I do the 1 rental at a time deal and find it to be acceptable. Nothing flashy. I send the game back on Monday, I should get another game by Friday - Saturday at the latest. So not too bad, but not great. At this rate I usually get around 2-3 games a month depending on how long I keep them. I don't play them for very long to beat them, I play them to see if I like them enough to purchase them and if not, I send them back.
I wish they had a way of tracking wheather or not you've mailed the game so that they can send you a new game faster instead of having to wait almost an entire week for a new game to arrive.
Do I think it's worth it? Yes, given the fact that Blockbuster is around 8 bucks to rent a game now. Ridiculous if you ask me.

Jerichoholic, I think in your situation it's perfect. I mean, that's a small, small selection you got there. I'm from a large-ish city(Green Bay) so our rental stores have a lot more options and the wait for Gamefly was WAY too long. Greyelephant is about right on the wait for a new game. That drove me nuts since I could just drive 2 blocks and rent what I wanted.
I think the only way the waiting periods are shortened is by more people subscribing and they open up more distribution centers (like Netflix) but it just wasn't for me.
I do have to say, I like how they have the rent it and then buy it option. I thought it was a nice feature, didnt' get to use it but my only question is, would they send you the case if you opted to purchase it while you still have it out on rental?

YES! And to me this is the best part of the service. When I rent a game, I get the option to "keep it". Mind you not all games have this option. What's nice about this is that the prices are very reasonable. For instance, when Punch out!! came out, I had the option to "keep it" for $40.00 day one. I also had a cupon for $10.00 off any game over $30.00. You do the math, but as you can tell that's one heck of a deal for a game just released. I've bought around 20 games from Gamefly. When you do this option, they send you the original case, instructions, and all the paper work inside the case (yes you can register and get your coins at Nintendo Club). Then they also send you your next available game from you Q. So to me this is the best route for anybody whose looking to play then buy certain games. You also get a $5.00 off any game purchase after 3 months. After 6 months you get 5$ off and 5% as well. After 12 months you get $5 off and an extra 10%.

Do they generally have everything in stock, or do you often have to wait to get games you want? What about new games? I particularly want to rent Skyward Sword, but I can imagine that being problematic if everyone else wants to do the same and they only have X number of copies.
Don't forget "Qwikster" (Netflix) is starting game rentals, Adam, and it should be cheaper plus have movies, better shipping speeds, and Skyward Sword. I would just do a free trial if you're going with Gamefly.
It's definitely an option, but Netflix is going seriously downhill. Splitting into two services and not having a cheap plan for using both pretty much destroys its usefulness to me. They aren't going to have half as good a selection of games since they're just starting this up, and they are actually more expensive than Gamefly. I live one state away from a distribution center for Gamefly, so I doubt the shipping speed will be much different.
I was planning on doing the free trial for Gamefly. I like to abuse free trials. Watched most of X-Files on a free trial of Netflix and most of Battlestar on a free trial of Hulu. I just was curious about game availability because I don't want to waste a free trial when Skyward Sword comes out if I'm not going to be able to get Skyward Sword for a week or two or longer.
I also keep waiting on Redbox to get games. They made a big deal about games coming to their kiosks, but they're not very widespread apparently. No games at all in my area.
The biggest complaint I have heard from people that have Gamefly is the shipping speeds only five Shipping Centers. I don't have it my self but have read some pretty bad reviews. No harm and trying the free trail and deciding for your self tho.
Shipping speed is not an issue for me. There is a center in Texas, and I have the otherwise great misfortune of living in Louisiana. The thing with the free trial is that if I am relying on that and then can't get the game I want during that short trial period, it'll be who knows how long before I can get Zelda at Blockbuster. So if I know in advance I can't count on Gamefly, I'll be checking everyday at Blockbuster, as much as I don't want to pay $8 for five days with one game.
Well I decided to cancel my Blockbuster Online account today after receiving my game with a huge crack in it. Its clear to me that Blockbuster doesnt care about their customers if thats the type of game they shipped to me. I mean wtf the person putting the game in the envelopes to be shipped didnt see that??? Come on.
So I think I will go back to GameFly for now since they also have 3DS games as well.
One question though has anyone heard when/if Netflix is going to carry games or did they abandoned that idea along with splitting the company into two? I would contact them but I couldn't find a general contact area on their site for that sort of thing.

That crack may be the postal service's fault. I've never had any discs broken, but I have had mail carved up delivered.
I'm pretty sure Netflix cancelled video game renting. There has been no word about it since it was announced.

I love GameFly! I got my last rental before the one I mailed off arrived back to GameFly. Also, you get coupons every few months to spend in their great online store and I got Portal 2 for FIVE BUCKS! You can usually quickly buy games through GameFly for about half their retail prices. You get the original game case and manual in mint condition shipped to you free of charge when you buy from them too!
GameFly is a great service that I highly recommend to anyone.

I would say it was the postal service the the package was perfect no rips, tears, or even marks on it. If the crack was due to the postal sevice I dont know about you but every item that I received broken from the mail the package is damaged as well.
That sucks about Netflix I can understand about canning splitting the company into to parts but they should at least rent out video games.
