Unfortunately it’s only for Steam and mobile. I suspect they will come to console later on. I hope FF3 will finally be available outside of Japan in 2D. I also hope this release gives option to create some save states since FF3 doesn’t allow you to save other than in the overworld.

Eel

Since they’re being made for mobile devices you can bet the games will keep an automatic quick save before every single battle.

(And give you the option of making one manually)

Can't believe switch owners are being left out. We can have almost all the other FF games but not 1-6? Thanks square! Mobile LOL Who seriously does their gaming on mobile?

@Eel
That’s good to know, I heard the final two dungeons in FF3 take 2 hours to complete followed by 6 bosses.

I suspect we will get all 6 on Switch at a later time. After the Steam/ IOS sales die down. Probably a business strategy to get some of us to double dip.

@Zeldafan79 "almost all the other FF games"

Not really. Still missing side games like Tactics which are on mobile and Switch basically has none of the post-XII games (and no XV Pocket Edition doesn't count because it's not the same as the XV that was on consoles and PC)

I agree it's BS but Switch has been getting the short end of the stick for FF for a long time, hell Nintendo platforms in general have been ever since the series went to Sony and later Microsoft in the first place

I've been wanting to play FFIV (non-3d version) for over a decade. Hope this comes to Switch. FFIV through VI are easily in my top ten games of all time.

I wonder if they’ll include some of the added content from across the various remakes. Though if they keep the price low I wouldn’t mind them being more vanilla.

This is an absolutely awful joke. I genuinely have no idea how this benefits Square at all. Slapping these on consoles would have made them so much money compared to on mobile phones.

Currently playing:
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
Persona 4 Golden
Dragon Quest XI S
F1 23
Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty

Maybe it's just blind optimism, but nintendo could still show it off in their direct. I doubt it, but one can hope. Just odd to release some retro content like that on mobile..not sure I really understand the thought process behind that one.

Eel

It’s very likely they’ll port them to consoles eventually.

Mobile is a fine place for them though. Might be weird to think about it, but a lot of people play games on phones and tablets, and these simpler games are perfect for them.

@Eel I can't verify it myself, but I saw a comment pointing out that one of the FFII clips looked like it showed the entrance to the bonus dungeon added to the PSP remaster. It would be cool if these have all the GBA/PSP content while still keeping the original NES/SNES art style honestly. If we're really lucky, maybe they can even toss in the short FFII side game (I'm blanking on its name, the sequel-ish thing added to the GBA release) as well as FFIV: The After Years? Not expecting those, but it would be really cool if they went all in on bonus content.

Eel

@VIIIAxel I think you mean Soul of Rebirth, it’s contiguous with the story of FF2, but focuses on the dead characters.

That’s cool then! If one of the extra bits is there, then chances are they’re all there.

Well i mean main series except everything from FF XIII on up. It's still a load of crap though how they'd pick mobile and steam before switch assuming they ever come to switch at all.

"Freedom is the right of all sentient beings" Optimus Prime

ReaperMelia

@Eel Yes, that one! I haven't played Dawn of Souls in years so I didn't remember the name. Thanks for the reminder!

That would be my hope. I really wish Square went into more detail on these so that we didn't need to speculate on everything, though. I hope they really did mean these would be coming soon...

Eel

Looking at the trailer again, the FFII scene definitely looks like it’s just the first floor of the Tower of the Magi.

(On the subject of FF on Switch, FFXV Pocket totally counts, since it’s the entire main story of FFXV, just on a different style)

@Eel Aw, guess we'll have to wait to hear if they are going to use the bonus content then. Also, unless I missed it, I don't think I noticed any clips from FFVI in the trailer. That's one I'd really like to see since it's my favorite... The Terra and Locke sprites looked good at least.

"Little by little. Each day as it comes. That's how we should live."

Eel

Yeah, that was mysteriously absent, besides the two little floating sprites of terra and locke. I assume it will look very similar to the snes game though.

Maybe it was one of the scenes that went outside the field of view?

People need to be logical about this. Of course they're coming to Switch. Didn't the same thing happen with Dragon Quest 1-3? Weren't they first released on iOS? Square Enix has dug deep into the well this generation--offering the Mana Collection, Romancing Saga, the GB Saga games, ports of the mobile Dragon Quest ports, Final Fantasy 7-9. Really, all they have to do now is give us Live a Live, Mario RPG, and Final Fantasy Tactics Advance and A2 and I'll be happy as a clam!

BanjoPickles

ReaperMelia

@Eel I was wondering if that was the case. I think the chocobo clip that came right at the end was from FFV (I honestly haven't finished that one yet and I played it years ago, so I'm not 100% sure), so it's possible VI was barely visible as well. Going off of how the others look, I'm sure VI will look fine too, but I would have liked to get a better idea at least.

@BanjoPickles DQIV-VI still need to come over as well, I'm really surprised they haven't yet. Especially since it seems like it'll be a while before we get any of the new DQ games announced a couple weeks ago, they'd be a great way to help fill in the gaps and let new fans experience more entries in the series. There's also the very glaring lack of Chrono Trigger on Switch... A Chrono collection with Trigger, Cross, and Radical Dreamers would be fantastic.
