Just saw shang-chi. Mixed feelings. I loved most of the characters and Michelle Yeoh is always super awesome but as cool as the concept of the ten rings and maintaining that they turned the yellow peril character of the mandarin on its head on purpose I hate any narrative where an evil, power hungry, murderous dude gets any type of partial redemption just because he falls in love. Like dude can be an absolute monster but he “loved” his wife whom he met trying to conquer her homeland and she gives up everything for him. Yay for terrible guy, lady needs better taste in partners. Not gonna lie, I gagged during the whole battle flirt sequence and was pretty relieved when karma finally hit him. That being said the commander of the ten rings is still the best version of the mandarin imo. And I like that the character is now separate from iron man. I’m also disappointed in the sister character although not surprised, she learned the wrong lessons.
