I can't find a Topic on dogs or pets so I'm starting this new one to ask a question. Just direct me where I need to go if there is already a thread on it.
Anyway, me and my wife got a new Puggle (pug and a beagle mix) yesterday. He is 5 months old, and we named him Chaos (yes...that's a Sonic reference). He is a pretty good puppy actually, he's just a chicken. The problem is, we have a german shepard in the back yard (not technically ours...it's my wife's moms dog we have to take care of right now...long story). That german shepard (Sunny) does not like Chaos, and she is a lot bigger than he is. I really don't want her to hurt him, but she won't leave him a lone anytime they are around each other. Any suggestions?

Does the Shep have a history of getting along with other dogs? If the answer is no you've really, really got your work cut out for you. You might want to get both of the dogs together in a neutral area (not the backyard-your German Shepherd almost certainly identifies that as her area) and play with the both of them while they're on leashes. Use separate toys at first and see how well the two dogs will tolerate being in the same area. If it goes well you can slowly escalate their interaction over the next few weeks.
Whatever you do, just make sure you never leave them alone together. Locking two animals in a room together may work for cats but it's a disaster with dogs.

Yeah. When we had them together, we really followed them around, cause we wasn't so sure about the shep. She's usually not a mean dog. She get's along with cats fine. She just really don't like this puppy, and he is just scared of her. I guess it will just take some time. Thanks for the tips though.
