So I have been using this program for a couple days now. I like it! I don't think I am going to shell out $60, but it is a lot of fun. I also like that you can just download other peoples games and play them for free. In the forums you can find a bunch of games posted. Thanks for posting a thread about this.

Some of the stuff that other people have come up with is utterly amazing. Try the Fire Emblem-type game.

I have to try to learn that script to make my own tactical RPGs.

A bit of an update, but I've been working on this one for about 6 hours a day every day since Sunday (so, 3 days = 18 hours), and so far this project has about 9 minutes gameplay in it, lol.

That said, I've mostly been setting things up for the future - some of the features this game will have is:

  • Pet system. Don't feed it, and you'll run into all kinds of problems.
  • Reputation system. what your character does and doesn't do will impact on future story arcs.
  • Fishing. Catch some very valuable food.

I'm actually really proud of how this one is developing - early stages now, but I think it's going to turn into a pretty darn good game - and FATEM's music is working really well with it.

Anyone else interested in joining in the party is most well - I would like to change the visuals to something less... stock standard if there are any skilled artists out there.

Alright I've got the Winter Overland done and redone the Winter Village so it's a lot more downtrodden and ambient.

Wow! I added in FATEM's music, and the game takes a whole new level of depth - the music is perfect, dude!

There's a couple more extra tracks I need, if it's ok: - A dungeon down the well

  • a 'fanfare' for when you win a battle.

After those two... that should be everything for the time being. What I'm going to do is put what I've got so far into a demo, then upload it to the forum to get everyone's feedback before I get the rest of the game going - this is just the intoduction.

FATEM

I'll get started on them now. Given I've nothing else to do I may have them done within the hour.

Ok, "demo" here! - http://www.filefactory.com/file/a2e3585/n/Black_and_White.exe

Read the below instructions to get a sense on how to play the game, then have fun! Feedback requested:

The Ghost Cat - Demo Version

Welcome to the demo version of The Ghost Cat! In this demo, you’ll find the introduction of the game, a few dungeons, and full access to the game’s first village.

As a early production, we’re looking for feedback to shape the future of the game and what you, the player wants from it. With that in mind, please do, after playing the game, send any and all feedback to mattsainsb ....

Now, enjoy the game!

Basic Gameplay

Following the introduction, you will find yourself on the World Map. Here, you are able to summon the ghost cat, Toygar, to your side to protect you from the horrific demons that now plague this land.

To do so, select ‘Talents’ from the main character screen, and then ‘Summon Cat.’

It costs nothing to summon, but Toygar is a vital part of your team - without him, on the over world, the demons will always succeed in killing you.

However, Toygar needs a constant stream of food to be able to fight. When a prompt appears saying “Toygar is getting hungry” - you should feed him a fish. If you don’t, a second message will soon appear, saying Toygar can no longer help you in your fights until you do feed him.

NOTE: Toygar cannot abide civilisation: He will be unavailable to you within the bounds of villages and cities.

Controls

Press the Spacebar to select menu options and attacks. Press the “Esc” button to bring up the menu.

Other things to note

Be aware of how you interact with the villagers! For the purpose of the demo there is no direct effect, but how you behave towards other people will affect your reputation. While it might be necessary to commit evil acts from time to time, there might be other benefits from behaving heroically.

Talk to everyone! Dungeons and additional characters will become available to you if you talk around and meet people.

Fishing - As you explore, you’ll gain access to a fishing rod. You can use this to catch fish to feed Toygar. To fish, you’ll need to find a fishing spot, and bait.

If you have all three - Fishing rod, bait and access to a fishing spot, you can fish! Simply press the spacebar while standing at the fishing spot to fish. If you catch a fish it will be added to your inventory.

And that’s it for the demo! Have fun, and again, please give me feedback for the future development of the game!

If I had a PC, I'd have downloaded this a while ago. I love the PS1 version, but its limitations can get very annoying. Obviously, VX doesn't have so many of those (such as no importing music, of course...those same 35 tracks DO get old). This project looks really cool, and I'd love to join in! I think I need to bug the friend who promised me a computer two months ago, find out what the delay on production is (it's being built).

If I ever DO get the game, expect my projects to be very weird, just like me. The project I came closest to completing on PS1 followed four video game geeks in full cosplay dress (going as Simon Belmont, Chun-Li, Zelda, and Ryu from Breath of Fire) on their quest to find a guy to repair their broken Gamecube. I still regret not finishing that one... Sigh.

My Backloggery Updated sporadically. Got my important online ID's on there, anyway. :P

Just downloaded it and I am loving it so far. And unlike most RPG's I'm actually having fun and being challenged.
EDIT: Also you should add a health bar for the enemies. Also after yelling at the Game Over screen for the tenth time I realised there would most likely be a final boss and this final boss would most likely have some sort of antechamber before it where you could heal all your characters and get ready for a battle that's 1/4 fighting, 3/4 using health potions to avoid getting b*tch-slapped into oblivion.
So here's something to listen to while preparing for your beat-down.

Awesome, thanks, dude!

I need to tweak the combat system a little more, I agree, though I'm not sure how to do enemy health bars yet - something to look into!

So I'm trying out the program for myself and I'm having some trouble. I want to start a cutscene event at the start of the game. I have the entire event all programmed but I don't know how to trigger the event as soon as the game start.

Make it "autorun" rather than "event trigger" or whatever the default setting is.

FATEM

Thanks, it's working perfectly now.
