No, we would have a lot more violence in the world if they did.

There's evidence pointing to both. Granted, there is much more towards the "no" side. I personally think it depends on the kids. I've definitely seen cases where 5 year olds did some really weird stuff because of stuff they saw in a movie, and video games can do the same thing. Quite frankly, any forms of exposure in the entertainment realm will have an impact on people of young age. It depends more on the person than the game.

Most people, especially as they get older, have a sense of reality. The morals of the real world don't really apply to video games, and most people understand that. Actually, IGN wrote something on it, and I've got to say I really enjoyed the read. http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/08/20/why-real-world-morals-...

If they'd cause anyone to snap it'd be me, with all the shovelware Daz assigns me.

So no, not violence. Just depression.

It depends. I do think that violent games can affect young children in a negative way. However, when people get older they do realize that the game is fantasy and not how you should act in the real world. I think criminals are just making up excuses when they blame games for their violence.

For the record (since I just know someone is going to get butthurt over it), my previous comment was in sarcasm.

The legitimate scientific research is overwhelmingly on the side that while video games can temporarily heighten aggression levels, they can't modify behaviour. If someone was predisposed towards violence before playing a game it's hardly the game's fault if they then commit violence.

But my sarcasm was more to highlight a bit of hypocricy amongst most gamers - sex is games is apparently for perverts without a social life or sense of reality, but violence is something most rational people seem to realise that most people realise that the violence in games isn't real.

Now that could be a story on its own.

I'll say no. Most people know the difference between reality & fantasy, & for those that don't, there's obviously something else going on.

I can definitely see how a child could be affected by any form of violent entertainment and develop some bizarre or wrong understanding of the world, but in the right hands (AKA rational adults) I see games as a positive form of entertainment. Why murder innocent civilians in real life when doing so in Grand Theft Auto would have far less repercussions and be far easier to pull off? And besides, the ragdoll physics in GTA games are far more funny than those in real life. [/psuedo-sarcasm]

Yes. I blame it on Call of Duty. XD I hate first person shooters so much. Even Metroid Prime. Metroid Prime is the best FPS I have played but I'm not saying its good...

Only for children under 14 and people who are already mentally unstable. I was at my friend's cousin's house for a night over the summer, and they were playing Sleeping Dogs, Halo and CoD. I think one was 15, but the other was around 8. You could obviously tell that the 8 year old was more violent and aggressive than most kids that age. We ended up dropping the two brother's old toys off a really (really) tall staircase. I may be wrong, but that's not normal behaviour. But the same can be said for any form of media. Films, TV, books, anything. Any form of media can influence a child's mind for the negative or positive.

I say 14 is the age where people can be trusted not to be negatively influenced by media. Obviously don't let your 14 year old watch the Exorcist or porn, but in general, 14 is the age where they can watch the majority of stuff responsibly.
