I believe that a few CD's or 2 DVD's would be cheaper than 1 Blu-Ray disc. For console games, since it needs to run off one disc, it uses the type that holds the most data possible.
Is it really? Then why do PS3 games (Blu-ray) cost the same as Xbox 360 games (DVD)? The only price difference is with movies.
DVD was expensive back when it came out, and it took a while to become a standard format; but over the years prices came down and now you see it on PC's everywhere. Blu-ray players can now be found for under $100, so they can't be that expensive to make now.
You can get Blu-ray drives in PCs now, but it'll cost you around an extra $50. They're probably still using DVDs for convenience. Also, PC games are almost always digital now, rendering retail discs kind of redundant.
Ah that explains it. But the question still stands, if Blu-ray is more expensive than DVD then why do Xbox 360 and PS3 games cost the same. Shouldn't there be a price difference with games as there is with movies?
@tendoboy1984 Probably because publishers want the same amount of money for the same game, but on a different system. It's competitive marketing or something like that.
im plan to get into pc gaming in the near future but if pc games ended up using blu-ray disc i would be more inclined to that then using steam though digital nets you cheaper games as oppose to retail copies but i still will always prefer retail over digital though i'll have to get use to that for pc gaming because i would want to pay less bases on Steam success
