Captain America rules (I mean the superhero in general — i haven't seen the movie yet, hopefully tomorrow). Everyone is entitled to their own opinion of course, but if you're hatin' on Cap, then your opinion is simply wrong.
(and on the "Cap is old" point, do you not realize both Superman and Batman are f'n older?)
I'm really anxious to see this movie and I want it to be good. I really hope that they did a good job with it. Cap is a character that I grew to love. I wasn't always a fan though, not until I read the Earth X graphic novel. That totally changed my perspective on him. So yeah, I am totally ready for Captain America.
Bravo Bravo! Glad you are ready for him, but be good even when you get in theater unless you want to make him very very angry at you T.T. And everyone does have they're own opinion you can't make them think otherwise.

Surprised the movie actually ended being kind of emotional at the end. The climax was impeccably done.
So, where this ends up in my (tentative) list of top 5 superhero movies: 5. Iron Man 4. Spider-Man 2 3. X-Men: First Class 2. The Dark Knight 1. Captain America: The First Avenger
Saw it today. F'n amazing. I knew i'd love it being a huge Cap fan, but it was way way WAY better than i expected. Very true to Cap's character and backstory, even with the slight changes from the comics. The emotional ending was a nice touch, and i'm sure there's some threads that will be picked up in Avengers (don't want to say specifics cuz spoilerness). And the post-credits scene — basically just a trailer for The Avengers — has me psyched for next year.

It was well done, but it wasn't really my thing. Like, I get that he's a super-soldier, but there was never a moment where Cap was really jeopardized or even challenged all that much. It made it harder to really care about what happened. Still, I loved the supporting cast (namely Bucky and that British chick), and the ending was great. But really, it's just another stepping stone towards The Avengers, which I'm pretty excited about (if only because of Joss Whedon).

Minor Spoilers Ahead @Totally-Rad That's the main problem I have Superman--he's practically invincible unless the villain happens to have kryptonite. With Captain America, since he had a team, he had to protect them and not always just be looking out for himself, but we never really saw him take any bullets to the eye (a la Superman Returns), did we? I didn't feel like Steve Rogers was completely undefeatable; just so skilled and strong and stuff that he never was faced with that kind of deadly situation (discounting, well...you know). Minor Spoilers Behind
@Nukerprime64 While I think that Robert Downey Jr. is the better actor, lots of things about The First Avenger made me like that movie better than the original Iron Man overall (I think we can agree that Iron Man 2 has nothing on its predecessor).
@JadeGirl Just so you know, "bomb" in the context of movies usually means "fail spectacularly," which is probably where the confusion between @Wildvine53 and yourself. Glad to see it do well, though. People will pay for good movies!
I saw the movie a few days ago. I thought the beginning was really great because it was all story driven and actually seemed like a realistic 1940's setup. Then they got to fighting and people started being vaporized and using weapons that would make any alien race jealous and that's when I remembered I was watching a Marvel movie. I really enjoyed the movie, though.

@Peterifico Spoilers That's exactly how I felt. Unlike most other superheros, Captain America can actually be killed or injured by anything that can harm a normal human being so he should have some instances in the movie where he actually struggles to do something or gets hurt, but he comes out untouched even with all the futuristic weaponry on the battlefield. But it wasn't only Cap that came out unharmed, but his entire squad which was made up of normal soldiers came out unharmed as well, with the exception of Cap's friend.

Regarding the squad (for those who don't know the comic), they are the Howling Commandos, which in the comic-continuity were led by Nick Fury during WWII, and frequently teamed up with Cap during the war. They're supposed to be the best of the best of the best, which is why they're able to hang with Cap when things get crazy.
For people not that familiar with Cap, one way to look at him is similar to Batman in the sense that Batman is also just a man who can be vulnerable, but you know that when the shizz hits the fan, he's going to be able to pull it out in the end.
