I'd be in, I don't have any experience with programming but I have some really neet concepts and ideas that I've wanted to use for a while now; I'd also be availible to help with a little story and art but mostly game mechanics- Colt
Might have a suggestion for you on that front too (company name, not Wiiware). We're planning on building a website called Coffeh for our projects, if you want to join us in that we'd love to have you on board. We already own the site (http://www.coffeh.com - there's nothing there yet though), so you'll have somewhere to put the game project.
So great we've got this thing started then. btw have we got any prefference of game name/project name or shall we just call it "project coffeh" for now.
I'm the programmer he was mentioning, I have some other really silly things but never completed them. I was the owner of Xerodox Games before it died. If you need some examples I can dig some up.
Thanks, I'm a bit shy so don't expect a lot from me haha. I guess if we are all in one place is easier to communicate. Want to apologise in advance for any bad English.
Hey, I'd be interested in helping with: story/scenario writing (preferred) level/character design (design not actual art as I don't have much pixel exp) testing/gameplay tweaking/concept

let me describe one of my mechanics imagine a 2D platformer where you can control the gravity in four directions (those being up,down, left, and right.) a bsic scenario is say you are falling down into a pitfall surrounded by walls you can rotate the gravity to stop you falling and walk up the walls and prosseed to the exit.
tell me what you think I have plenty more concepts and mechanics if your intrested.
@colt-that sounds pretty similar to what they did in "and yet it moves." feel free to clarify if i'm wrong.
i'm sure everyone would like to hear your other ideas though, so feel free.

Colt I think I'm going to enjoy speaking with you. One of my 'dreams' as a girl was to make an awesome fun platformer. I programmed many of them with wacky ideas and things. Switches, minecarts, gravity, teleporters, dimensions which change aspects of levels, etc. If we all do end up collaborating this is going to be really fun. O:
Sadly I never finished any of them and my last one was made in 2004. Made a few other things since like the Puyo Puyo Compendium, VEGA (which was a FPS game of epic silliness), and an IRC Client. Really hope this project goes well.
I'm not much use for anything, but I'd love to test the game and give feedback and stuff.
I have a Backloggery now! Nothin' fancy, but feel free to add me as a friend. [21:15] Axoloth joined the conversation [21:16] Axoloth: I love you, dead chat [21:17] dead chat runs away [21:17] dead chat has left the convers...

Ive never played and yet it moves but I just looked up some gameplay on youtube and I think your right about them being rather simmular too bad someone beat me too it. oh well I've still got plenty more. I generally note down any concepts I have in a note book full of ideas so I'm kinda backlogged with everything I've had since I started noting them. So I guess I'll have to sort though the best ones.

yeah this should be great I've wanted to do something like this for a long time but I've always had other stuff that needed doing and never had anyone to bounce idea off or even talk to about development. platformers have always been my favorate genre (it's too bad most games are mainly FPS now) I really do miss the glory days of games like spyro and crash bandicoot.- whoops I'm kinda getting off topic so to some up I think this is going to be really awesome provided it pans out
heres another idea: your charecter is equiped with a sheild that has can absorb any projectile. ( may it be a fireball or massive power beam, or anything eles for that matter) anyway the catch is after a power has been absorbed it can then be fired again at a later point.
An easy scenario is that an enemy shoots a fire ball you absorb it and the shoot it at a rock blocking a door. It sounds pretty basic but there are alot of puzzels that could incorparate this using different powers (eg freezeing water with an ice beam)
Wth I didn't know there was more replies! I was refreshing the previous page! So what program are we going to be using? Speaking of music, I did a short Cave theme in Mix Super Star... it's very simple but I think for this kind of stage it's ment to be like that. Sounds like the underground theme... http://node1.mixsuperstar.com/download.php?f=4591001ea987d029...
@Colt - take a look at Nifflas' games...he has some great examples of good platformers--one in specific which has some really interesting use of 4-directional gravity.
He's quite talented...his graphics are pretty average, but gameplay, atmosphere, and sound design are all stellar.
Just understand going in that there probably aren't any concepts you can think of that haven't already been done...being one of the older gaming genres (and one of the easiest to make to boot) virtually every permutation has been done to some degree. Your best bet is picking a few mechanics from other games that work, polishing them, and really overkilling the level design aspect. I could probably consult a bit with anyone interested from an overview standpoint (kind of what I do for Sneaky) but I'm busy rebuilding one of my defunct projects in the aftermath of my hard drive crash, so I'm pretty tied up as far as content contributions are concerned....still, I might be able to lend sound effects and music at some point, but don't hold your breath or you might pass out
