I watched two videos of Gajin Goomba. One was how fandoms can ruin the anime industry, and one where he debated with another Youtuber about how moe hurts anime. If you haven't seen them, give em a watch. Although I do like moe anime I agreed with many of the points GG made in the debate video.
I liked his older videos where he went in depth on what cultural aspects influenced this or that in video games, but it seems he doesn't do that much anymore, other than those 2-5 minute long "Culture Shock" videos he posts on the "Game Theorists" channel every once in awhile.
@kkslider5552000 In the video, he used Yoko from Gurren Lagaan as an example of how fans can ruin anime. You see, originally the character of Yoko was a kick ass character who could fight for herself, but when the manga and other works came out, it portrayed her as nothing more than a walking sex object.
I know this is on the deep end to be talking about on the forums, but this is kind of the TL;DR version of the video, or a least part of it.

That's stupid. Again.
First of all, I have heard Gurren Lagann mentioned approximately 80 billion times in the last decade and I LITERALLY DID NOT KNOW THERE WAS A MANGA UNTIL NOW. SO I GUESS THAT RUINED HER CHARACTER FOR...THE NO ONE THAT READ IT?
Second of all, if the creators wanted to appeal to the lowest common denominator and give up on making a character interesting or worthwhile beyond sex appeal, THEY DECIDED IT! BE ANGRY AT THE PEOPLE WHO DECIDED WRITING DECENT FEMALE CHARACTERS WAS HARD IN THE NIBELSNARFING 21ST CENTURY FOR GOD'S SAKE! FANS DID NOT WRITE IT (unless it's doujin, which is admittedly actually possible nowadays, but even then that's still a single person). Or maybe some executive demanded it, I don't know!
ALSO, QUITE FRANKLY, THIS IS THE INTERNET AGE. RULE 34! LITERALLY EVERY CHARACTER YOU LIKE HAS BEEN DRAWN TO BE SEXUALIZED ON THE INTERNET! GTF OVER IT!!!
That's so dumb. Fandoms can be dumb but DON'T MAKE STUPID EXCUSES TO TAKE AWAY ALL RESPONSIBILITY FROM CREATORS. That's basically treating creators and at times, multi-million dollar businesses as children. Which is stupid.
If you guys want a good (or rather a bad?) example of what fandoms can do to a series look no further than Attack on Titan. Isayama literally rewrote his entire darn concept once the thing took off because he was told not to kill off a Nibelsnarf-ton of characters because they're popular.
The dude had a finished plan for the series but at this point he's seemingly no idea how to get out of the corner he's written himself into. It started out pretty good, but AoT became a convoluted snorefest long ago.
I entirely disagree, because AoT stopped being that compelling because it tries too hard to be shonen. (and it's obvious THAT character staying alive was always gonna happen despite it taking away so much tension)
Yeah, while fandoms can certainly be very obnoxious, ultimately it's the creators' responsibilty to exercise restraint and not allow those fans to compromise their vision. I do agree that artistic works are often greatly cheapened once fans are allowed to, either directly or indirectly, start dictating what's happening on the screen/page, but at the end of the day, those changes can only happen if the creators sign off on them. If every episode of Steven Universe from here on out was just fans' "gemsonas" fusing and making out with each other for 11 minutes, it wouldn't be tumblr's fault or reddit's fault, it would be the fault of the people working on the show.
Granted, the production side is the big, often powerful, elephant in the room in most mediums, but I'd still argue that it's the responsibilty of the writer/director/animator/showrunner/whoever to at least be difficult and fight tooth & nail for their work. They won't win every battle, but hopefully they'll win enough of them to make something they're still proud of.
Apparently (Starting on Saturday, June 4th) Toonami is going to start airing Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans!
I've been really getting into both mecha & super robot type shows lately, and I've liked what Gundam series I've seen, so this is the most hyped I've been since they aired InuYasha: the Final Act, lol.

Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)
tbh, the only reason I would watch Toonami for the last while would be for shows I've already watched unfortunately (despite intentionally trying to watch less action anime the past couple of years). So I hope this series changes my mind on that.
No idea, but it is just Funimation, so definitely dub for me. -w-
If I get around to it I might just sample a dub somewhere, if I like it...then Bluray tiem! (unless it's DVD only)

Keep it PG-13-ish.
Got back into watching Naruto Shippuden for the first time in a year and a half.
Unfortunately I started watching in a filler arc. Actually no, worse, Shippuden had decent filler ARCS, it's more like just a bunch of pointless one-off stories no one could even pretend to care about.
I don't know how many of you guys use Hulu, but they're removing most of their anime on June 1st.
"If you rely on Hulu for your anime, and you watch anything other than the most popular or recent shows, this is the apocalypse. The site's vast back catalog of anime will be left a shadow of its former self in just 4 days after this article goes up."
For me at least, this is pretty terrible news. So far, from what I can tell, you can go to a show's page and hover over an episode and it'll say "Expiring in 4 days" if it is being removed.
Since Toonami had a Samurai Champloo marathon tonight (the episodes of which I've all seen in recent memory of course), I decided to use the opportunity to instead finish off my rewatch of Eureka 7, which I went through the past 3 weeks (it was so engrossing that I was up to four episodes a night this past week, lol).
Really has to be one of my favorite anime of all time. It doesn't have as much action as your typical mecha series (there are many episodes where there isn't any fighting, though maybe that's because it's 50 episodes rather than the typical 25 or so), but when there is, the aerial combat is always very, very slickly animated, and what few ship to ship battles there are are always very full of energy. I like it that they take their time to have episodes dedicated to the slow times inbetween the hectic moments (probably afforded by the longer episode count), and while it's mainly used to build upon the core romantic component (which I adore, BTW), these episodes really familiarize you with the cast on a personal level, and are often quite humorous. It does have some techno babble with the world they've set up, but after my most recent watchthrough, I think I can confidently say I pretty much get it, lol.
After a short break from the series, I will soon be trying out it's sequel for the first time. I haven't heard very nice things about it (and admit to being confused, though intriqued, by the premise), but I have to try it myself to be certain.
