I have a free membership nowadays, and even that may not be good anymore since CR keeps freezing for me and apparently it's a problem on their end...

Just finished Grenadier (manga).

The story follows Rushuna Tendo, a "Senshi" (expert marksman) who is on a quest to find her homeland, which she has no memories of. She is joined by Yajiro (a young samurai aiming to be the strongest samurai in the world), and they soon run afoul of the imperial court, who send out their 10 best warriors to dispatch of them.

This was actually a pretty fun series. It's set in a fantasy world loosely based on Meiji era Japan (as in, it's still very traditionally Japanese looking, but many of the fighters have advanced technology, which is usually labelled as something new from "foreign lands", though to fit the fantasy theme ranges into fantastical territory, like robotics). The action is fun & over the top, and it has no problem doing a bit of slapstick to loosen the mood right after something more serious (think the way FMA:B does it).

As for objectionable content, it has blood & language on par with other Shonen series, though it has an abundance of mild fanservice (mild, as in it happens often, though there is always a well placed tatter of clothing or cloud of steam, so you don't actually see anything).

Prison School (manga) is starting to really get good again. Not quite as good as the series highpoint of Volume 8, but good. Funny how good this manga is tends to rely on how much Hana is involved in the plot.

You want to check out some "Manga" then check out "Errant Story" and "Exploitation now". Those two are nice and funny. The story however eventually turns into an drama.

So the first episode of Cute High Earth Defense Club LOVE! came out...
This show is basically yaoi sailor moon, which I'm TOTALLY okay with. But so far I'm leaning towards not watching it, because the shota looks like he's the main. And I sorta don't like shotas...

Prince Sulfur(?) is my favorite so far, he only cares about money which means we have a common interest haha.

So is this the year SnK is supposed to see a Season 2?

From what I read, the next season is set to air sometime in 2016.

Wow thats kinda ridiculous... I mean Im a huge n00b when it comes to anime but why such a long wait...... D:

Because it's an adaption of a manga that runs once a month. By the time the first season was done they were 3 volumers behind, which would have lasted them about half a season at most...

Tokyo Raven - "One of the better Urban fantasies bordered in a sea of harem saturation" — Seventhstyle.com

...that was quote Funimation felt was worth putting into their trailer for the DVD release. Talk about scraping the bottom of the barrel...at least they're honest, though...

I don't mind a harem anime, as long as it's hilarious. That's pretty much my only criteria. It better have consistently good and fresh humour, or it really has nothing else going for it at all. The hijinx that can come from one guy being chased by multiple women (or vice versa) is a classic comedy trope, but it has to be done well. So many, I've watched a promising first episode only for it to settle into a formula of repeated visual gags and panty shots by the second.

I Don't Have Many Friends is probably the standout. Both seasons managed to be funny and fresh every episode. Ran through every cliche in the book, but like I said, all I care about is that it's funny, and it was.

I just kinda meant "That's the best compliment they could find?" I don't think the Harem part was even talking about Tokyo Ravens.

But I do agree that Harem anime can be fun sometimes...it's just that it requires more naunce than most harem series writer usually have...

I think they tend to be a little reserved about certain genres.

OniAi, for example, was the first anime licensed by Funimation that did not receive an English dub. Supposedly they wanted to test whether or not subtitles would be a profitable enough to release more anime in the West. I don't know if they've released more titles without dubs though.

Started to read the Tenchi Muyo! manga, and it's been better than I thought (and that's good, because I've really liked all the anime, other than GXP).

It's cool, because it's set in the main OVA canon, but rather than being an adaptation (the anime came first), the manga is actually set inbetween the first & second OVAs, so it's actually completely new (to me) canon content.

I know Sentai's released a few of those, too. More than Funi, at least.

To be fair, some dubs are worth criticising, just to a certain extent. I can think of a lot of dubs I liked, but I can also name even more that I disliked.

Even good dubs, like say Cowboy Bebop, often have problems with poor sound mixing. It's like... hard to explain, but you can really hear that the voice of the character speaking on screen is coming from a different place. Kind of like a commentary track on a movie. Steve Blum does an awesome job with Spike, but when I put on headphones, it sounds like he's sitting in the room with me, not speaking through Spike's mouth. I find it distracting. I'm assuming this is due to issues with removing the Japanese audio track and inserting a new one on top of it.

Foreign language movie dubs have the same problem, and not just to English. Watch a Hollywood movie with Spanish audio some time. It's weird.
