I was ok with it during the first episode but episode 2 of Hellsing Ultimate makes me think it's trying too hard to be dark.
I haven't seen Ultimate, but I made it a couple episodes into the first series before coming to the same conclusion. It was so overdone that it almost seemed like it was a parody of grimdark anime. I've heard that Ultimate is much better though, so maybe I'll get around to checking it out some day.
(though in my experience "much better" usually just means "closer to the manga," so I dunno)
Well, the second episode of Ultimate has a vampire with a "gangsta" persona, who commands a group of militarized zombies (complete with riot shields & machine guns). That may or may not be as weird as the Catholic priest from the first episode, who was a bio-engineered killer.
Take that for what you will...

That's the fun of it, IMO. I wouldn't say it's parody, but it isn't something I would take seriously, nor do I feel it's really meant to be. It's a silly fun action show, and one of the better ones at that.
I heard the ending to the anime is pretty terrible. But that's just from people I normally talk to about anime. I''m not very interested in Tokyo Ghoul so I don't know if that's not a popular opinion.
I've finished watching Zankyou no Terror today, I thought it had a bittersweet ending. How you'll react towards the last episode will depend on how much you've immersed yourself in the story. It's definitely one of the best anime of the season.
So I got around to reading Mirai Nikki/Future Diary. Got about halfway through it and I don't know if I can finish it. It's... pretty terrible. I think the whole appeal of it is supposed to center on not finding Yuno an utterly repulsive character, but it's not working for me. She's awful. There's no real story to speak of and regarding the game, the author seems to just make up rules as he goes along, so I think I'll just drop it.
Yeah, taking several months off from watching Conan proved my theory. That wasn't even that amazing but I had so much more fun than most of the cases in some time. Don't ever watch a series for too many years in a row without taking a significant break, it ruins everything.

I recently had a friend recommend this to me. It didn't seem that appealing to me in the first place, and his recommendations aren't really that great, but I think I will still at least try it. Guess I'll go in expecting this.
Oh yeah, I read the newest chapter of Bleach earlier today!
The Ichigo gang was about to be shot up to the Spirit Palace in 3, 2, 1... Wait! You can't have a throwback to their original adventure without the whole gang. That's right, Ganju is back (after not being seen since the Soul Society arc), and he's going to accompany the gang once more on their final adventure. After a bit of reflection on how everything began, they're blast off!
Meanwhile at the Spirit Palace, the Zero Division is trying to get to Juha Bach (now being translated as Ywach), but first have to find a way to get passed the reality bending powers of Stern Ritter "W". It appears his power only takes effect when he senses danger, however, so during a decoy attack to redirect his attention, one of the Zero Division members manages to replace his clothing with an imitation she had sewn onto him at blazing speed, and before he could sense the danger, the clothing itself stabbed him from all sides!
Is this truely it for Stern Ritter "W"? I guess we'll find out next week.

Well, one of my favorite new anime, Space Dandy, is finally over, baby. With Stardust Crusaders not coming back until Jan. 2015, I'll need to find a new currently-airing anime to watch!
The ending wasn't bad, but to me it felt somewhat predictable. Still good though!
And I'm really curious as to what the "May be continued?" tag at the end was for! I thought this would be the end of Dandy... Just what are they planning?
Bleach - Actually, a really awesome episode tonight. When Ichigo finally got his powers back (his REAL powers) & when all the Soul Reapers finally showed up was the one really awesome moment in the Fullbring arc, and yes, it was fantastic finally seeing it animated. It does little to validate the Fullbring arc overall (getting his powers back & being reintroduced to his friends would have been awesome no matter what situation they were in), but it's a gem of a moment in an otherwise dull stretch.
Space Dandy - This was one heck of a way to end(?) this series, baby! Pure action from beginning to end, with some true twists & WTF moments thrown in had me at the edge of my seat with excitement. Somehow, it managed to keep it's funny nature strong as well, which was great.
Naruto Shippuden - The first half of the episode was really great (after the "spy" was exposed, but right before they revealed it was a training exorcise, I almost jumped in surprise. Guess I was still hopped up on all the awesome from the previous hour, lol), with some good action. I will say that this does have me looking forward to see Sai's past revealed. I can't imagine anyone THAT uncaring.
One Piece - This episode kept up the high tempo recent episodes have been pushing, so it was definitely a fun watch as well. Like always, the last few minutes showcasing the expertly animated fight between Luffy & Blueno was the highlight, though.
Also, they had a special video honoring the finale of SD, and the second half of the night (going on now) they're having a "Batman Blowout", since they're losing it after this week.
Overall (including that surprisingly good chapter of Bleach I read earlier), I had a much better time watching/reading anime & manga today than I have in a long time. So many awesome moments were shown today, it just reminds me of why I fell in love with the medium in the first place.

I'm actually surprised how many people like Future Diary, tbh.
Maybe they like yandere characters?
The Yandere character is the least of its problems, IMO...
Yeah, definitely. I mean, actually liking the yandere is the only way I can imagine the show being tolerable, because it definitely isn't something you watch for the story, game of wits, intrigue, mystery, character development, ...
Season 2 of Nisekoi announced. First season was nothing groundbreaking, but it had a neat art style (SHAFT is always good for that) and was just the right kind of innocuous rom-com that I usually take guilty pleasure in. I've heard that after the point where the first season ends, there's just a long stretch of nothing really happening in the manga and doesn't really pick up again until like 50 chapters later. Couple of OVAs in between that are covering a few odd chapters, so maybe S2 will pick up after a time skip.
yeah, that's what I've heard. I'll probably at least watch season 1 someday, if entirely because my friend who introduced me to the brilliance of TWGOK loved this series until it stopped going anywhere.
