For some yes for others it's more the translation is too westernizedl. I've seen some pretty bad translations compared to the original. In some cases this needs to be done to better understand but I've seen it far too westernized to the point that the original meaning is gone.

Also, some don't want to wait for a DVD release, others prefer the sound of Japanese (the language it was intended to be in). I like dubs a lot, to the point where I'll put up with mediocre dubbing just so I don't have to read, but I still watch a lot of subs, too.

So I just finished this season of Korra, is it just me or is this season like super stupid? It wasn't bad, it was just so stupid.

Like pretty much ALL New Nickelodeon shows are stupid, and VERY BAD at the same time. (Excluding TMNT for few of the reasons.) I only watch older Nickelodeon shows and episodes, pretty much before 2005 or 2006.

I saw the first season of Korra a while ago, and I actually enjoyed it more than Last Airbender. I haven't followed it since though.

Why do people point to their wrists when asking for the time, but don't point to their crotch when they ask where the bathroom is?

First season was good, second season was SO boring and third season is really stupid.

Nickelodeon has really went down hill with the shows, and they also screwed up Spongebob and Fairy Odd Parents. We never look Nickelodeon the same. ( Even though this isn't really on topic.)

CN on the other hand, is doing way much better than Nickelodeon is.

I wouldn't say third season is stupid. It has meh pacing and is bizarrely slow yet rushed, but stupid it is not.

Depends on the anime for me....
Dubbed: Full Metal Panic, Hero Tales

Subbed: Hatchin & Michiko

In the end... I still prefer reading manga than watching anime. I can create my voices for the characters in my head and the directing in some manga series are just so impressive.

Yes. Even worse though is when über annoying fanboys defend every choice a company makes and haze anyone that dares have an opinion. I'm looking at you, Funimation.

Usually, what I do is watch an Anime Subbed first, and then I'll re-watch it Dubbed later on. I get to enjoy the series again, but at the same time have somewhat of a new experience. The only exceptions to this are when I see a series on TV first, like Space Dandy, FLCL, and Blue Exorcist. I also think I decided to watch Code Geass dubbed on my own, and I was practically forced to watch Accel World dubbed when I spent the night at a friend's house.

That being said, the only dubs I've seen so far that I've liked more than the sub are FLCL and Space Dandy. Though, I think that might subconsciously just be because I saw the dubs for them first. For the most part, I enjoy the Sub more than the Dub. I thought Durarara had a good Dub, but I didn't like it as much as the Sub. I didn't particularly like the Dub for The World God Only Knows... The Sub was much better in my opinion. For me it just depends on various factors, I guess. But in those cases, I saw Durarara Subbed first, and TWGOK Dubbed first. (Well, at least the first few episodes of TWGOK at anime club... I watched the rest on my own Subbed, and re-watched the first season Dubbed recently.)

For me, I think it's how fitting the voices for a character are, and how well the lines are delivered, but when Dubbing anime it's hard to get both of those right. After all, the original was done in a completely different language, and getting English lines to fit into the anime while also having it sound good without altering the original lines can be difficult. If you change the lines, there's backlash for altering the original script. If you keep the lines but have the English voice actors say the lines in a rushed manner, there's backlash. If the voices don't really fit the character, there's backlash. If there's the previous two together, there's backlash. Also, people might just get used to the Japanese voices, and just not like the English voices because they are different than what they are used to, even if the actor did a good job. (Although, I suppose whither or not the actor did a "good job" is opinion.)

But I don't know. That's just my two cents on the matter.

backlash and quality are not one and the same. Most of the super literal dubs are usually meh at best.

Though yeah, it has to be profoundly difficult to dub both well and accurately.

Gurren Lagann's Dub was much better than the Sub IMO. But I generally don't care one way or the other.
If I like the Dub, I'll watch it over the Sub. Simple as that.

Personally, I'll always go for a dub if it's available, but I've certainly watched a fair share of subs.

Toonami Saturday night!

Attack on Titan - Missed it.

Bleach - Missed it.

Space Dandy - This episode was pretty surreal. Beautiful though.

Naruto Shippuden - Looks like the surprise attacker is the team's new member, but is he all that he seems? Some political struggles going on.

One Piece - Luffy got himself out of a tight spot, and the rest of the gang is heading his way (just beating around henchmen so far).

Gurren Lagann - After another episode of over the top, fun action, they obtained Gurren to go along with Lagann. Surprisingly somber ending, though.

Beware the Batman - Didn't watch.

Black Lagoon - After some thought (and a confrontation at gunpoint), it looks like Rock has decided where he belongs. Meanwhile, Yukio looks like she's starting to perhaps enjoy her new life.

Next week, they're going to have an all night Attack on Titan marathon (though there will be the new Space Dandy before it starts).

Has anyone seen the English dub of Doraemon on Disney XD? It's the first time the franchise has ever debuted on the U.S.

Nope. I'll doubt Disney's dubs on anime are good. I'll rather watch Doraemon on subbed than watch any of Disney's dubbed anime.
