@MrGawain It's like watching The Last Jedi again! (ducks to avoid the backlash.)

I never drive faster than I can see. Besides, it's all in the reflexes.

@NEStalgia That is true, especially if you have a 4K TV. I personally don't, and I don't feel that it'd be worth spending the money on another console just for better graphics and performance, but if I had tons of money to spare for gaming, I'd 100% get an X to sit alongside my PS4 and Switch. The whole Game Pass thing doesn't hurt either, although I'm the type of person who vastly prefers owning a game to "renting" it on a Netflix-esque service. I'm definitely an outlier there, though.

@KirbyTheVampire Well, I don't think they can just roll on their current wave to the next one, they really need to keep at it. If you're in first place, you can't put the car in cruise control: that's a sure-fire road to failure... Staying on top is work, not resting on your laurels, and these 4 titles aren't going to achieve that.

God of War in its current setting is surely a very interesting game, even to me as a non-Sony guy, but the Last of Us comes across as a snooze fest to me, much like a lot of other games coming from the same company. Opinions, though...

So, if someone else does like these types of games, then good for them. We each have to find our own genres and series, as long as we all enjoy gaming, right?

@NEStalgia You crazy, crazy text-wall man...

Well, as long as you're "kind of" happy with your One X...
As for the S: that's perfectly capable of displaying in 1080p, so no idea why you're labeling it a 720p box. Only difference between the two is 4K game graphics and performance upgrade. Other than that, it can run all the same games.

But I'll upgrade as well, eventually. Back when I was making the choice to buy an Xbox One, the One S bundle was much more interesting than the X bundle, both price and content wise, so that's why I went with that. But I think that somewhere in the next coming months, there's going to be a nice discount, so it'll end up here eventually...

@ThanosReXXX I don't mean that they shouldn't release anything outside of what's currently announced, I just think they could maintain their current momentum of new releases and do fine. That install base certainly speaks for itself, especially compared to the install bases of the Xbox and the Switch. (Although that's not a super fair comparison with the Switch, considering how young it is) However, no point in risking it if they can take it up a notch, I agree.

I can definitely see that The Last of Us isn't for everyone. While I found the gunplay and stealth satisfying, and thoroughly enjoyed the story and characters, it's a lot less video game-y than other series out there.

IceClimbers

@ThanosReXXX Disagree on those 4 titles not accomplishing that. All four of them will be massive exclusives.

The reality is that those titles in addition to Dreams, Days Gone, and Concrete Genie is most likely it for the rest of the generation. There's also only so many third party titles left to show off.

Next gen is pretty clearly coming soon, most likely Fall 2020.

@NEStalgia Yeah, that's definitely true - the overall 'vibe' of the Bethesda presentation went a long way towards my overall score, if I'm being honest! ..the presentation had a bit more of an informal feel too it (even though, through all of the telepromters on stage, you could clearly tell that it was heavily scripted!) - they were just speaking my kind of language - a bit less 'corporate', a bit more 'fun' (..some of the jokes, in particular - like the 'Walmart Canada' and 'Skyrim on Alexa' gags - had me in stitches! )

Thinking on it, some of the content was perhaps a little underwhelming...we already knew that they were working on Elder Scrolls VI, but they didn't even so much as share the full title - it was nice to hear that Starfield is indeed 'a thing', but they're making us wait to find out 'what kind of thing' it'll be - and Fallout 76 was sounding quite Sea of Thieves-y to me (..not the highest compliment I've ever bestowed! )

...but, their charming and energetic presentation style carried them through - and helped to carry me along with them

I could forgive them a few 'misses' just for making it such an enjoyable watch...perhaps my score of 'A' was a little generous, in hindsight - but they put a smile on my face - and that'll go a long way with me!

@ThanosReXXX All I want from Ubisoft is a proper (offline) single player campaign in Skull & Bones. Any new game is a welcome surprise.

@Octane That's fine... I'll remain cautious however.

Gotta say though all of my hype for fallout 76 went out the window with the online requirement.

Feels like this year is mostly "look at us showing off games coming out that we showed off last year". Bethesda did the best to shake this trend though. Finally got that confirmation of starfield being a thing and ES6 being a thing...not sure about that elder scroll mobile game though.

I'm wondering if Ubisoft will be the European EA this year, or if they will break the trend somehow. I'm just tired of their tired formula. All their games are the same game with different skin, so I expect nothing interesting from them.

Hmmm is Red Dead 2 not gonna show up this E3? We still haven't seen gameplay :-

It's dangerous to go alone! Stay at home.

MrGawain

@GrailUK

Luckily I haven’t seen that. (I’m old, I’ve given up on watching Hollywood recycle my childhood and I’ve been beaten down into watching baking contests instead).

Isn't it obvious that Falco Lombardi is actually a parrot?

ThanosReXXX

@IceClimbers We'll see...

Winning E3 is still a thing, whether we like it or not. And then there's the shows following thereafter, which also need to be used to steal all the attention from the media. And they can really make or break a company, much like they did Microsoft with their disastrous console reveal. Since then, they've done a lot of good things, and the media has become increasingly more positive about the Xbox brand, but it has taken them years to get to that recovery point.

@KirbyTheVampire Having a bigger install base is nice and all, but to me that is more or less what I was talking about earlier already (them being in first place), but it takes effort to stay there, not just riding the existing wave, and from my own professional point of view as a sales & marketing man, I'm telling you that it's really not all that unlikely that they're going to lose ground, BIG time, if they have nothing else up their sleeve other than those four already known titles, which would already make their upcoming E3 presentation kinda redundant and boring even before it has begun...

And no offense, but I also already said (and I firmly believe) that in that respect, it doesn't really matter how big or how great these games are. It's still only four games, no matter which way you look at it. And that will have to last them at least another year or so, all while Microsoft is bringing out more than four times that number of exclusives. (regardless of them being on PC as well or not, as also already mentioned before)

@NaviAndMii Yeah, Bethesda are actually quite good at that. All shows are scripted, obviously, but theirs just has a much more natural feel to it, and even when making jokes on stage, they stay in their own comfort zone, making it feel like it's not about people acting on a stage, saying things that don't fit the picture or the person, which ultimately will make it feel really forced and unfunny...

Meanwhile, Ubisoft's pre-show has started...

Okay, last minute wagers: does the Rabbids DLC get shadow dropped today after Ubisoft, or tomorrow after Nintendo?

Nintendo won e3 with only one game a couple years ago😋

A slew of eShop games getting physical edition via Limited Run. Yooka Laylee,Golf Story, Layers of Fear Legacy, Oceanhorn, Thumper and Night Trap.

@Tsurii I sure hope Ubi are doing it for the sake of the eShop servers. If it's coming tomorrow people might not be able to grab it due to Fortnite crashing the eShop.

Recommended this one too. Old-school turn based jrpg

Limited Run put on a great show if you ask me!

@KirbyTheVampire No 4k here.....and no intent to get one for any long period of time (even if I do my switches are all 1080.... ) But yeah it looks prettier, runs smoother....the UI is smoother, etc, etc. GamePass is cool....library's too thin for now...and too old/indie. When Crackdown/Gears lands I'll sign up though. But I've bought half of what I wanted that's on it already on sales. But it's amazing how the graphics boost isn't just for the big new AAA's but old games. The Gears X360 games are X1X enhanced. Assassin's Creed 1 (can't play that on PS4!) isn't specifically enhanced but benefits amazingly (looks way better/smoother than it did on my PC when it was new!)...and then Jade Empire, KoTR....in 4:3 aspect ratio, letterboxed.....enhanced for the X....running circles around my old Vista PC when the games wee in their prime. That kind of stuff is cool. "The power of the X" makes 15 year old games look better and run smoother. I like that. It feels like a video card upgrade for my library

For newer games it's more about the texture memory fitting bigger textures. But yeah, it's graphics/performance....smoothness of navigation....that sort of thing...it refines the console a bit, but it doesn't change what it does. Personally I think if going physical, PS4 handles it better. If going digital, PS4 is about a "Sega" on a scale from "Nintendo" to "Valve." XBox is maybe an Origin.
