I see this years Sony conference being equivalent to Nintendo's 2015 Direct. They either discussed things that we already knew about, or announced things that most people didn't want.
@Monado_X I don't think there was anything people didn't ask for... If you're talking about MH, some don't want the franchise to move to other platforms (and that won't happen), but I don't think anybody didn't want a MH on PS4.
@Octane I meant a lot of the VR stuff. VR is still niche in my eyes, so dedicating that much showtime to it was a bad move, in my opinion. Skyrim VR might be cool to some, but the other stuff could have been done in the pre-show. It's good that they're supporting it, but that section was easily the most boring for me, and it looked like the crowd was too.
I honestly never thought a Rabbids game would be one of the more interesting things I'd see at E3 this year. I never really liked the Rabbids. Their buggy eyes and shapes irked me, but I found it to be shockingly charming. What an E3.The only conference I didn't enjoy much was Bethesda, but I didn't actually watch the PC conference.
Yeah, thanks for that @Octane - those breakdowns are really interesting ..looks like there's a bit of a trend towards showing more game content at these presentations (each conference has seen an increase on last year) ..long may it continue I say - that's the stuff we actually tune in for!
@Monado_X I see. Well, it works both ways, I guess people would also complain if there was no VR in the main presentation. I'm indifferent towards it. I don't own a PSVR, but I know there are people that enjoy it, so I'm OK with PSVR in the main presentation. It's like the 3DS games during Nintendo Directs, I usually don't care about those, and I don't own a 3DS either, but I don't mind those sections.
@NaviAndMii Yup, and that's a good thing. But I do want to stress that I also don't mind Ubisoft's approach. There was a bit too much talking for my tastes, but I liked the section with Michael Ancel, showed he was really passionate for BG&E2.
@Octane Oh totally, I really like seeing the faces behind the games - especially when you see the passion that they have for their project, or when they give you an interesting extra insight in to the game...but there's certainly a balance to be struck - safe to say that EA's 24.1% actual game content last year didn't find that balance
Up until now, it's been a rather lukewarm E3. Nothing too much to get excited from my part, I do hope Nintendo delivers, though.
I think Ubi with Beyind Good and Evil has been one of the high points of E3 until now. We knew about Sony's before hand and there wasn't anything really new, apart from MH which has been either "god, IRS perfect" or "it will flop and die" on other forums, and MS was the XOX, but nothing too much in the game department.
Great job, Nintendo! Just telling me that a mainline Pokemon game and Metroid Prime 4 are coming making me way more excited than showing me a new Kirby and Yoshi that look just like the Kirby and Yoshi games I've recently been playing. Mario Odyssey looking amazing was the cherry on the top.
It was pretty good. Announcing a new Metroid and Pokemon. Showing off Kirby, Yoshi, Mario, Xenoblade, Warriors. I liked it, but it definitely felt a bit short and the Kirby and Yoshi games looked a bit meh.
@Octane Valid point, but they had something Sony didn't; actual games launching this year. Uncharted and Horizon are basically DLC. Knack is gonna get slaughtered by Odyssey. That's about it for 2017 for them. Ninty has Mario, Splatoon, Arms, and Xenoblade, not counting third party stuff like FIFA, Mario + Rabbids, Pokken, FE Warriors, Rocket League, Skyrim. So yeah, they have so much more.
