@Octane I was mostly bringing up the fact that Sony has an awful habit of announcing something nobody is going to see for years.

@-Green- Cautiously optimistic. I think there will be at least one big surprise, but I'm not going to expect something like Metroid or F-Zero. Animal Crossing or Pikmin are safer bets I think.

Gonna revise my prior statement and say that Ubisoft made it a "good" E3, not a great one.

Wonder what Nintendo will show tomorrow... They're the wildcard.

I rate Sony's conference a buffering/10.

I wish.. No idea what to expect from Nintendo though. 25 minutes is short, but it all depends on whether they skip ARMS, Splatoon and Mario+Rabbids or not.

Well Nintendo said it would be the rapid-fire format, so...expect a lot I guess. xD

I've seen others say this, but Sony could have benefited from just doing a Nintendo Direct-esque presentation. It seriously looked like the audience was asleep for the latter part of it, and they looked confused when it ended.

This alone is still worthy of merit. Do you even remember, like, any of their previous conferences? I wouldn't blame you if they didn't. I'm still blocking out most of the details.

If they kept the format of previous years, that would have lasted at least an hour and a half. This is why I like what Nintendo does. Short and to the point, mostly. However, I personally felt like my major gripe with their presser last year was exasperated. Most of the games they showed off were 2018 titles. Uncharted Lost Legacy and Horizon's Frozen Wilds or whatever it's called is just DLC, really. Or AA games, size-wise. They spent too much time on VR in my opinion. And besides VR, MH World and Shadow of the Colossus, there wasn't anything new that I remember. Compared to the two previous years, they had slim pickings, in my opinion. But that's just me.

True, a lot of it wasn't new. I'll give you that. I don't pay much attention to main stream gaming anymore, so a lot of it was new to me, and I was excited, but I guess I can't fault ya for not liking how many of these are guaranteed to show up next year - especially since a few of them were at last E3 in some capacity. Crackdown 3 from Microsoft already suffered that, though the fact that it looks like an improvement over the last one helped me forgive it.

Then again, I'm also fairly excited about the VR stuff. I doubt I'll be able to afford one any time soon, but just../knowing that VR exists, and people are doing things with it gives me far more hope for the future than I've had in like, 5 years...and I'm not just talking about video games, either. This world is feeling more grim with each day, IMO...

@CanisWolfred Last year's conference also cut the PR bull but was really good.

Was it? Oh right, it's 2017...the last time I watched an E3 conference was in 2015. I had to work during last years conference...or was that after I quit? Oh well. At least they're learning.

Nintendo doing a Stephen Bradbury at yet another E3. They don't need something as big as Metroid, they just need to stay on their feet.

@skywake Could you explain that reference for me? I googled the name and saw that the guy is a gold medalist speed skater, but that's all I got shrug

First Australian to win a gold at the winter olympics. He won from last place when everyone else fell over. So "doing a Bradbury" has become an Australian figure of speech for winning by default.

Wow, this might be even worse than Sony's 2014 Press Conference.

Lets start with the few pros:

  • The Spider-man gameplay was relatively comprehensive, and looked interesting for the most part.
  • God of War looked pretty good.
  • The music is probably the best I've ever heard at an E3 conference.

Now for the bad:

  • There were literally 3 games that weren't photo-realistic. Sony has so much freedom with powerful hardware to make genuinely interesting art styles and unique worlds, and yet they are wasting it. They could have shown a trailer for the new Ni No Kuni game, and blown me away with that, but I just saw the same style over and over again.
  • There wasn't a single new exclusive that interested me. And nearly all had been announced last year. They were mostly on VR, and I'll get to that one in a second.
  • All the VR games remind me of how motion control was wasted. VR is being used as a gimmick to replace interesting gameplay and features, rather than being used to add to and augment interesting gameplay and features.
  • Very few multiplats shown interested me either, and even if they did, most were already announced.
  • Everything interesting is coming out in 2018

I'm going to give Sony's conference a 3/10

Backtracking to Ubisoft and Bethesda:

Bethesda: I liked the theming, and their games show well, but there wasn't much new there. 6/10

Ubisoft: Very varied, quick paced, and a lot of really good looking stuff. The pirates game didn't look like my cup of tea, but I'm still going to give them a solid 9/10 for a very strong effort.

And for those who missed my Microsoft post, I gave them a 9/10, though in retrospect I might dock them to 8/10. Not wasting my time with EA.

As of now Ubisoft had hands down best conference overall: nice games, nice pace, great final bomb. I think Sony was bad for 2 main reasons: bad pace, it was really boring, and all interesting stuff is 2018, always going with a lot of smoke in their E3 (it's just a personal consideration). Did not like Detroit, seems like another playable film. God of War looks awesome and gameplay seems even better, but seeing the new "Kratos" using a shield and in certain situations "baby-sitting" his son was kind of meh. Actually did like a lot Days Gone and Spiderman, with the latter easily the best game for Sony.

@-Green- about Nintendo i'm really confident. I don't like conferences like Sony where you have to watch like 90 minutes of show for 20 minutes of interesting things. I love the new format for Directs: less time, better pace, more announcements. I think that if they show the things in the right way (getting help from Treehouse obviously), give us some awaited things (like western dates for DQ11 and MHXX, and i hope so since it's NoA, not Nintendo of Japan) and one big unannounced surprise (let's say a Metroid or an Animal Crossing to make a couple of easy examples), i think Nintendo has the potential to win hands down this year E3.

Even as someone who LOVED the beginning and ending of Ubisoft's, I don't really get the hype for that conference? Like, maybe I'm just so burned out by their games but most of the middle was really meh to me. Outside of the spaceship game, and even then...I don't have much interest in Toys for Life games (as shown by despite being a huge Nintendo fan, only getting a 2nd Amiibo recently)

I never watched the Microsoft conference,I had no interest in it,something about the Xbox brand I find really unappealing.Even when I play on my mates when i'm back home I've never felt like I wanted one,as much as my mates get on at me to join them.I've always been curious about Sony though even though I've never owned any of their consoles.I thought their presentation was good at the beginning but I had lost interest by half way through. That Detroit game was the kind of game I wouldn't even play if my mum bought me it for Xmas.Overall I thought their show moved from game to game at an alright pace but so much of what was shown was cutscenes.I hate that and if there was a survey of gamers, asking if they enjoy the reveals comprising of mostly cutscenes 90%+ would agree with me.I bet if you broke their show down to only actual gameplay you'd be lucky to get 25 minutes in total.

It feels like the big 3 are taking the approach of announcing stuff outside their main conference this time. For Microsoft you have stuff like the new Halo Wars 2 expansion, for Sony you had that pre-show revealing games like Undertale and for Nintendo you had the Ubisoft conference revealing Mario Rabbids and the toys to life game. It's also been hinted that there'll be Nintendo announcements in the first hour of Treehouse Live.
