i just want to thank NL for the honest reviews of games. i have, over the years, wasted too much money on games that i ended up disliking/absolutely hating.
ex: i needed something 'different' for my 3ds and was feeling a bit desperate for a 'word' game. i love crosswords irl, hate word search. i spent some time wading through the reviews (using my 3ds, of course, lol) and found the one for 'telegraph crosswords'. it's a brilliant crossword game with enough difficulty to make it interesting and i am loving it.
i never buy without checking our NL's reviews/comments first any more. i appreciate having a site that features reviews by gamers who know what they are doing. when a game is bad, they tell you. when it's blah, they tell you. but they don't allow personal biases to get in the way of honesty when doing so; if they have an issue with a genre they admit it.
anyway, i just wanted to let james, corbs, and all the others know that i value what they do (i do know everyone's names, it's just that ptsd puts me into stupid mode memory wise).
Wait..isn´t telegraph crosswords that one with messed up translation? The one who uses british english instead of NA english?
'translation'?? well, the puzzles are from a brit newspaper, so it does use british english. i've spent enough time in ireland and also have many brit friends so am fairly used to their 'brit speak'. there have been a few clues (i know squat about norfolk ports, for example) but i can google and learn something so for me it's enjoyable.
The reviews are really helpful, but I would like to see them grab a few more talented reviewers to go along with the ones they've already got. I'd also like to see more reviews from their older guys like Damien McFerran and Darren Calvert. But I guess they are busy doing other things.
Yeah..translation was a poor choice of words on my part...sorry!
I read a review, i think at IGN and they said it was bad. I love crosswords so i think i will give it a chance.
it's very cheap here, $4.99 or something, so it's not a huge investment. there are nuances to some words that i didn't get at first, but it just adds to the mix for me. i love words, cw puzzles, puns all that sort of thing. watch all the brit comedies you can and you will be at home with the slang in no time. (i am personally hoping for the word 'twonk' to come up somewhere, via 'red dwarf' which is shooting a new series right now! i've missed the boys of the dwarf).
