Oh, and please guys, lets not debate individual games in the list. I mean not everyone is going to agree with every game, but this is overall a list of 1001 games that are important to the history and development of the games industry (as opposed to being just "1001 best games")

Ron_DelVillano

I don't understand why Altered Beast didn't make the list.

I co-host a podcast about professional wrestling titled Blind Tag and I write/draw a daily webcomic about a werewolf in high school named Duane.

why can't we debate individual games on this list? seriously, who named Yoshi: Touch and Go important to the history and development of the video game industry? :/ and bit.trip core but not beat? to be fair, beat kinda started it all with that line of games; it was there first, shouldn't it get the credit?

Both Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2 are important enough to the history and development of the games industry to merit individual spots on the list? I'm sure one would suffice and they could have given the other spot to somebody else, but hey...

I've played a bunch of these. I'd be more specific but no way am I going to list them.

Waltz, is this your list or did you get it from somewhere else?

why can't we debate individual games on this list?

Because it'll then be the "we hate COD/ halo is overrated" junk that every second games thread is.

I didn't mean don't discuss individual games (poor wording, my bad), but rather "Lets not rage against a game on the list just because we personlly don't like it, yeah?" And it was a request more than a demand. I'm well aware there's going to be Halo hate anyway <_<

That said I also don't understand why Yoshi is there, or some other games are not (Magic Carpet? Hello?) but for the most part I think it's a good "history of games" list

Ok, but there are a few games missing. In fact there are a few series missing. MySims series missing and I didn't see Kirby. Star Trek games from Activions is missing.

Some of these were hard to track in the list since they are using sub-titles as main titles and in other places I think they are just refering to the series as a whole.

Here is a short list that I would add.

Ascendancy
Chip's Challenge
Donkey Kong Country 2
Excite Truck
Kirby's Epic Yarn
MySims
Rabbids Go Home
Starcraft 2
StarFox Adventures
StarFox Assult
Star Trek Elite Force
Wario Land Shake it
Worms: Armageddon

@Oddy: discuss them, agree/disagree with them being on the list, who cares? Suikoden II didn't make that list, but Suikoden III did? seriously???

So just to be clear, we can discuss games but not outright bash them for no reason, right?

Ideally, yeah. Unless Tony Mott is on this forum and we didn't realise. In which case fire away and watch him defend his choises (mind you, with some of the "iffy" games in there, the writers of the book do a great job of explaining why they are included - the difference between seeing a raw list, and reading the book)

Ok, so on my count I've played 567 games... halfway there!

There are a couple of games I would add in to the list that isn't there too:

Star Ocean 3
Magic Carpet
Dungeons and Dragons: Wake of the Ravager
Dungeons and Dragons: Strahd's Prophet
Heroes of Might and Magic
Chocobo's Dungeon
Shiren the Wanderer
Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle Earth
Warhammer Shadow of the Horned Rat
Final Fantasy.

Those games were all pretty influential on my gaming youth, so that's probably tinted with rose coloured glasses, but yeah.

Saw this book in a Barns & Noble about a week ago. Wanted to get it, but it was $37.

Anyway, I think I've played 61 of the games on this list. There are definitely some games that probably don't belong on this list (Army of Two: The 40th Day made this list?)

Finally, this list was made about mid-last year, so that's probably why games like KEY, Starcraft 2, Shantae RR, etc. aren't on this list.

Okay, here goes nothing...

They chose CORE out of all of the BIT.TRIP games?! I can understand only having one to represent the series (even though both L4D titles were on there, as Chicken pointed out), but RUNNER and BEAT are easily the most recognizable/important games in the series, even if not necessarily the best. I suppose I should be glad the games are finally ingrained in mainstream gaming culture to the point that they are highlighted in this book, though. Any chance you could grab a scan of this entry so I could read why they chose it, Waltz?

Nice to see de Blob on there, haha.

Also, please don't tell me you wrote up this entire list, Waltz.
