Hi! I have a lot of keys for my games left over, so let's do a giveaway!
If you get a code and leave some feedback in this thread, I'd really appreciate it (and adress it), but that's not a must. (It would really help, though!)
-What do you like about the game?
-What did you not like about the game?
-How would you improve the game?
I'm a solo developer and make platformers (2d and 3d), as well as RPGs and the occasional point'n click adventure. I grew up with NES/SNES games, so I often aim for that sort of retro game feel. The same thing could be said about my 3d collect-a-thons, but they're more inspired by PS2/Gamecube games. The 2d platformers can get a bit challenging, so they have an Easy Mode that can be activated in the first area.
got heart chain kitty US.......thanks! ill leave some feedback later!
i'll ask a question. as a solo dev how long does it take to make a game?
i tried making some on game builder garage and they took a while

Heart Chain Kitty took about a year to make. That game is really big, too. I didn't have a Switch devkit back when I made it, so making it run on the Switch took another additional 4 months. It was my first port and Switch game, and it shows a little in the graphics department. My later 3d platform games look better, but aren't as big as Heart Chain Kitty. Both Shooting Star Island and Unstrong: Space Calamity took about 8 months each. They're half the length of Heart Chain Kitty, gameplay-wise. Which is still a decent length. I usually aim for 1$ per gameplay hour for 3d games when pricing the games.
Treasure Hunter Man 2 (6-8 hours long iirc & low res sprites/tiles, metroidvania style gameplay) took me about half a year, for comparison. I find 2d games generally a bit easier to make. There's something about chunky pixel art I still love to this day.
@origamihero How do I start Starlight Alliance to play it, I'm stuck on the first page when you open the game. None of the face buttons (ABYX-+) are working and same with the shoulder buttons, or am I missing something.
@origamihero yeah, when fiddling with game builder garage, 2d seemed much more managable
i think the $1 per hour is a good and fair scale. i've paid way more for games that have only been played/finished in less than that pricing scale
another question, as a solo dev, what are the advantages? i imagine you don't have to clash ideas with anyone else for starters

I'd really like to play your games, there just a bit buggy it seems. I've played Roarr! to completion, a not so good game, I played it because someone put there heart and time into it.

@Kermit1 I tried to replicated the bug in Smash Star, but I can't trigger it. Can you reproduce it? If yes, what are the steps to get that error? What language is your Switch set to?
About Starlight Alliance:
Navigate the menu with the direction buttons or the left analog stick. Press B to highlight an option, then select a sub-option (with New Game selected, switch from Cancel to New Game using Left/Right) and press B again.
(Edit:) Here's a video of the Starlight Alliance Switch version, including the menu selection to start the game:
Quite a few testers and reviewers have played through all the games completely, which should, in theory, minimize gameplay-stopping bugs. I'd be surprised if there are any bugs that prevent you from proceeding anywhere. I'll def look into it if you find any. The problem is mostly that I need to be able to reproduce them. If they're once in a month ones, they'll be really hard to fix, for example. If they always happen after certain steps, they're usually easy to fix.

I'm not sure if there are many advantages to being a solo dev. It's likely harder overall. I'm relying on other dev friends for feedback and gameplay testing, for example. Marketing games is really hard, too. And I have to make everything by myself, from graphics to music to coding. I enjoy it, but it's a lot of work.
Feedback for@origamihero: I had a good time playing Shooting Star Island. Played for a few hours, got 104 of the 500 stars. I liked it enough that I'll dive back in to see the other areas, and I'm tempted to check out your other 3d platforming games on eshop. (I got to Moving Things area, and got most of the stars, in there, I think.)
Likes:
While it does have a touch of float to the feel, the platforming is essentially competent, and never felt unfair control-wise - which is commendable. The level design is enjoyable. There's a good amount of exploring, platforming, challenge. I've played some budget games that fail at those things, so this is commendable for a one-man show. Works well at 60fps. I like the progression of abilities.
Wants:
A map to better illustrate where I am.
Blob Kingdom music is a bit repetitive, could use something to break it up.
The art style works, but would like a touch of depth (texture or lighting). Looking at your other games on eshop, it looks like you're making progress, and I probably haven't said anything surprising.
Thanks for the feedback! I tried aiming for a new art style for this game, good to hear it mostly works. The game is just about managing to keep the 60 FPS stable, so anything more advanced would likely push it into 30 FPS only territory (like my other 3d games). Would you play the game at 30 FPS, too? That'd be really interesting to me. (You can switch the graphics mode to 30 FPS/high res to try it if you like).
The point about the map is valid. As it is, it only gives a general idea of where places are. Once you find the teleport tower, you have an easier way of getting around. I hope that'll help some.
30 FPS vs 60 FPS is often a big discussion. My 2d games easily manage 60, but with complex 3d, it's... complicated. Does anyone feel like 3d platformers aren't very playable at 30 FPS?
@origamihero it really depends on what kind of platformer it is, by the way I'm trying to replicate the crash, I'll get back to you very soon. I can't wait to start playing more of your games.
with Heart Chain Kitty, i found the 10 coins in the beginning then ........had zero idea what to do.
the map didn't show anything, the reappearing guy would just tell me about swimming, treasure and whatnot etc. and then when i pressed the quest button in the pause menu "Dream your dream" i clicked it and just got a comment from Kittey. i had no idea how to progress at all. i tried falling off the map, running around the place a ton and......sigh.........still dont know.

The beginning area is basically an optional tutorial thing. To progress, make your way up the hill/mountain. There's a tunnel near the pond and save point that leads upwards, and some more platforming stuff, and at the top is a door. That leads to the next area.
Let me know if that helps, please.
EDIT: If you're still lost, here's a Switch gameplay video that shows how to proceed. Basically, you gotta go upwards:
I guess it is very difficult to write the code you received as a message? You are making people struggle to write every code. Some people cannot be understood. Writing a message shouldn't be this hard !

I don't seem to have an easy way to check which codes are redeemed atm, unfortunately.
