Here are the suggestions to make the Nintendolife forums a better social forums:
Online Status- when you read an user's topic/post you can check their online status under their topic/post to see whether they're online or offline.
Sent Friend Request- read an user's topic/post and under their username left-click "Sent Friend Request" to add them to your friends.
Greeting System- if you want to say hi, hey, hello, goodbye, thanks, ty, thank you so much, etc. Just left-click that word under that user's topic/post to greet them.
Hi-Five- you can hi-five your friends' or user's topic/post to express how cool or awesome that topic/post is.
Online Status Notification- when you go to nintendolife.com, you'll receive an online status notification notifying you that your friends are online.
What's Your Favorite Games?- in What's Your Favorite Games? you can chat to your friends or users online what's your favorite video games to add each other's favorite video games in favorite video game groups to make it easier to talk about your current video games you're playing.
Opinion of the Day-post what you did in "Opinion of the Day" forum section about what movies, video games, songs you listen to from last week or the current week. Your friends and other users can rate what you watch, play, and listen to, and post what they think you did positively.
Advice System- if you see your friends or other users needs help for something you can sent them a link, article, or word of advice to help themselves in certain situations.
Hug System- if your friends haven't been online for a week or two. You can left-click "Hug" which becomes available under their username within a week or so to express how much you missed them.
But that way people would discover how unpopular I am and the cool kids wont talk to me anymore...
Personally, I like it this way. There are many sites and apps that do something similar already, and this is a site focused on news and gaming opinions that, while this wouldn't be a problem and I suppose some users might like it, it's not necessary by any means (in my opinion) and it wouldn't improve it's main objective, which is sharing and commenting gaming news in a casual way. I like to talk here without someone checking if I'm online or if I saw their message, I have Facebook for that (as an option, I actually don't have a profile). Also, I think it could hurt the casual aspect of the site, since, while your suggestions might improve the social aspects and would help to make friends and stuff, people would act like in said apps and sites ( think of facebook as an example... again) and limit themselves more to their social groups. While we don't have a friend list and stuff, we do have a community that is open and friendly to (almost) everyone and for that it doesn't need any of those aspects. Just my opinion though!
