Topic: What's the Best Fire Emblem game for a noob?

I want to try getting into the Fire Emblem series. I was recently at Walmart and saw Shadow Dragon for DS sitting in the bargain bin for 10 bucks. I heard it was a remake of the very first game so I thought what the heck and bought it. The only thing I've played that is similar are the Shining force games on Genesis. Did I make the right choice to start getting into the series with this game?

I guess, since it it's probably the worst Fire Emblem that is released here. If you like this, you'll definitely like Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn.

Fire Emblem, and Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones are probably the best picks for a newbie since the initial difficulties are easier.

I suppose Shadow Dragon could be fine, although compared to the other worldwide releases it's utter trash.

Shadow Dragon and the first Fire Emblem to come out in the US (wasn't that the GB FB? Can't even remember D:) are the best for n00bs.

Also, Shadow Dragon is win.

Uh oh. He's back.

The first worldwide FE was simply titled Fire Emblem, and was on the GBA. It's also the best one.

Ah, the GBA FE. Yes, that one was the best. Next to Path of Radiance.

Uh oh. He's back.

I think Sacred Stones would be best for someone just starting. There are alot of people in that game with high stats.

(Like Saleh. He PWNs.)

Seconded. Sacred Stones is probably the easiest in the series because you can level-grind to your heart's content to get a seriously-overpowered team going. And, in the case of certain characters, you HAVE to level-grind (with protection from more powerful characters) in order to unleash their true potential.

I miss the days when I actually had time to play Fire Emblem...(sigh)...

If you find yourself spiritually drifting (as I was for far too many years), remember that Jesus can and will walk across the water to reach you and bring you back to shore.

Fire Emblem is probably my favorite Nintendo franchise. I was a bit bummed with the lackluster DS game, but it was still good.
I got hooked on the GBA games, so best to start there. Path of Radiance was great, Radiant Dawn was a little too all over the place.

Boom.

Shadow Dragon or Sacred Stones is your best bet.

The first GBA game (the first released in the US anyway) is the best for newbies to the series.

...I just found my copy of Shadow Dragon! XD

I'd also reccomend either Fire Emblem or Sacred Stones on GBA to start.

Interesting to see the negative reactions to Shadow Dragon. I played through it halfway before taking a break for other games, and haven't had a strong urge to get back to it despite loving the series. It didn't seem as fun as the GBA-released games, but i thought maybe it was just me not getting into the game, as opposed to the game being lackluster.

She-Ra is awesome. If you believe otherwise, you are clearly wrong.
Urban Champion is GLORIOUS.

Sacred Stones or Path of Radiance, like others have said. SS is a wee bit more accessible, i think.... but PoR is amazing. one of my favorite games ever. the story is as epic as it gets.

Oh it's definitely lackluster, 20 year-old gameplay with an ugly coat of paint. (Also the Super Famicom remake of the first game had more content)
