Stafy has come a long way from Japan, where it started off as a small game and slowly spread its way to America. It was fun, despite the fact I couldn't read Japanese. The storyline was straightforward, and it's incredibly easy to understand what to do and when to do it. Of course there were some things you had to slowly figure out on your own, because you couldn't understand the instructions. But most of the game was incredibly simplistic, making it easy for anyone to figure out what to do. But now the English version is released. The Legendary Starfy is based off Densetsu no Stafi 5 (Stafy 5) for the NDS, and is actually quite addicting for any age.

The Legendary Starfy begins with you as a royal starfish, and you're trying to save your kingdom. Your best buddy Moe is there with you to give you tips and tricks along the way, but considering how straightforward the game is, he isn't really that useful. Although he is pretty entertaining! There aren't any differences between the Japanese version of this game and the English one besides the massive translation. The storyline is fairly simplistic allowing anyone of any age to play this game with a fair understanding of what's going on. The game does display some sorts of cartoon violence, but considering there isn't any gore or weapons (that YOU can use), it's fair to say that it's alright for any ages.

The graphics are 2D, which are fair knowing that the NDS doesn't have great specifications. The attacks are nice, and are pleasing to the eye (they aren't just massive, destructive attacks that have a terrible gfx display). Starfy is of course a starfish, making his character look very basic. Despite the fact that this game doesn't have many graphical attacks, it's actually nice to play (However, if you really want something with a big BOOM, go for something in the FF series). For example, the final boss in the first form is 2D, but you can already see how minor graphical changes can make the attacks look stunning. The game DOES go into a 3D mode (the second form of the final boss), and from there it becomes very eye-pleasing as his attacks become more realistic. Overall the graphics for the game are rated 7/10.

The game itself has come a long way since the first release of Stafy in Japan. Although the storyline keeps its general idea, there are small changes which make the game more fun. There are minigames and all sorts of other things you can do while working your way towards the final boss which make the game that much more entertaining. Once again, these minigames are very simplistic, straight-forward, but entertaining. I would say the storyline would have to get a 9.5/10, considering any age can go along with it and it's simply .. entertaining to follow along with!

This game isn't only for yourself, you can also connect with other players and play minigames! These minigames are simply .. Fun. You can do anything from cooking, to fishing, to shooting! Despite the fact that there are games you can play with your friends, it's fairly limited. You do not have many choices to choose from when playing with your friends, and when you decide to play with another friend in story-mode, you can only play with them for one room. But despite the fact it's fairly limited, they attempted to get the most out of wifi without making the game incredibly unfair. The minigames are enjoyable and can last a while, and you can play with NPCs! Overall the wifi and DS download experience is rated 7/10 to my standards.

There are other things you can do outside of the story mode. You can collect figures (which I have to admit is a complete waste), and even dress up Starfy (also, I have to say this is a waste of your hard-earned pearls). All of these sub-features are completely useless in-game, but are a great time waster if you want to go for something else after you've beaten the game. These features are what keep the game alive after you beat it, but are completely useless. I would say they are unnecessary, and they could have done MUCH better to keep the game alive. This convinces me to give my lowest rating for all of these features, a 4/10.

MY conclusion? I say this game is fairly addicting from start to end, and can still be addicting beyond that. The wifi/DS download experience is decent depending on what you want to do and with how many people. But the way they attempt to keep the game alive after it's finished is what truly disappoints me. I would rate this game 7/10. It's perfect for all ages and can give you hours of non-stop entertainment.

That was a good review, very informative. One thing though, the game doesn't have any Wi-Fi in it that I can remember, does it? o.O

In my opinion, everything was fairly decent (if not great), but when I figured out that there was no real point in continuing the game after you beat it, I was disappointed. Most other games will have at least some source of entertainment after beating the game, and usually with wifi. Whereas Starfy only has a DS-Download option to continue playing minigames with friends. I mean, if you find repeating everything again entertaining, then sure, you might enjoy it. But for me, my personal decision on the rating was a bit lower than most others because of that little issue.

It's really pretty good, if a little on the easy side.

Yeah, but you can't really expect a game meant for all ages to be that hard.

I think it's a fun and good game, just not very addictive. I mean, I'll play one level and then instantly want to play a different game.

I suppose it depends on your interests in a game, but you have to admit that for the majority of ages over 8, it's pretty entertaining (even if it is just for a while).

That's great, but I'm sure that when I post some more reviews, you'll try out some other games and maybe find a new favorite NDS game
