I dont think they should of got rid of the gba slot everyone still loves to play gba games if you do get tired of the games then you have the ds games to play whats wrong with that??
That's a good point, all right! Thankfully, I still have my GBA SP for the older stuff. I'm just annoyed that Nintendo apparently didn't realize that DSi users might be annoyed that they can't use Guitar Hero DS since it requires the GBA slot.
Now that I think about it, the GBA SP might be a better way to go anyway, because last I knew the older DS models couldn't play original/GBC games...
I'm a lifelong gamer who'll play just about anything that sounds good, regardless of reviews. My Backloggery is still a work in progress, but when it's done you'll know what I mean. My Backloggery DIY FC:5414-2316-5886
I don't miss it. If you want to play GBA games, play them on a GBA SP or DS Lite. No one buys GBA games anymore, and anyone who has them already would have the previous handhelds. The DSi is about Nintendo moving forward. The DSiWare store makes up for not having a GBA slot anyhow.
The DS and Lite had GBA slots because they extended the library of available games for the devices at release. It was an incredibly clever move. Now the DS has a massive library and DSiWare is constantly growing and improving so the slot isn't necessary.
If you have a Game Boy Advance (or an SP) and any model of the DS, you can play GB, GBC, GBA and DS games on two systems. So no, it hasn't really bothered me.
I mean, sure, there are some DS games that need the GBA slot, but if that bothers you then get a DS Lite instead of a DSi.
GBA is the best handheld machine that ever lived. By removing the slot they have destroyed all chances of playing proper retro games on the move unless you have a GBA. DSI is rubbish, I dont want to play phone apps on a nintendo machine.
I want to play Final Fight one, Double dragon advance, King of fighters, street fighter alpha 3, super ghouls n ghosts, all mario games, 3 excellent castlevania games, a very good mario kart game, astro boy, gunstar heroes, guardian heroes, sega rally, sega classics collection, gradius advance, golden sun 1 and 2, lunar silver star story.

Not true. I was in GameStop this weekend, and a kid who couldn't have been more than 9 years old asked an employee if they had any GBA games.
Yea, i like GBA games. They where some of the best. and true you'll still see people buying them at gamestop. I think they removed the GBA slot for a reason (or scam). Well, lets wait for what the 3DS has in store...
It would have eliminated taking the decision to sell off my GB Micro and games, but I can understand why they eliminated it as it was a vector for exploiting the system.

I only hope when I become a mother, I do as much right as this kids mom did.
I wasn't happy about them removing the GBA slot, and I really thought long and hard about whether to get a DSi or a DSLite. I chose the DSi because it wasn't too much more expensive, had WPA compatibility, DSiWare was starting to show a little bit of potential, and if they released a VH, I wanted to make sure I had it.
The eventual solution was to buy a refurbed grey-market DSLite from Hong Kong (costs what a good quality used console does in the US and much cheaper shipping to where I am), so I can use it for PalPark and GBA games. I have a GBC for regular GB games. If the 3DS doesn't launch with a Virtual Handheld, I'll probably spring for a used GBASP to play them with a back light (I was spoiled with the Game Gear as a kid, and I think it's so hard to see the GBC screen). If the 3DS DOES get a VH it will be an instabuy, and I'll sell everything else.

Nope, the Game Boy Micro only plays Game Boy Advance games. If only two systems that play all Game Boy titles are the original Advance and the Advance SP.
I love playing GBA games on my DSi! It´s an excellent feature.
Wha? Also, I hear that they eliminated the slot to make the DSi a bit thinner. Frankly, I find the DS lite's shape much better, so I wish they had made it thicker.
I think it would have been nice for them to have kept. Occasionally, I want to go play some GBA game, but have to do it on my sisters DS or my brothers GBA. Usually I only play flipnote, so I dont really care.

It makes no sense to continue supporting something that has been dead for years at retail. Keeping the GBA slot would only make their handhelds larger and more expensive, without providing any benefits to new customers (because existing GBA customers should already have a system to play those games on). Nintendo is a business, and they focus on the future instead of the past - luckily for us, they respect the past and do a great job of keeping backwards compatibility for at least one iteration of their handheld systems!
If you want to play GBA games, I highly recommend tracking down a Game Boy Micro. That system won't play original GB/GBC games but is incredibly portable, has a beautiful screen, and offers great battery life. (Or get a GBA SP instead if you want to be able to play older games - they are cheap now and still very useful.) Maybe a GBA Virtual Console will be available one day... that would be pretty sweet too!
I think they should have kept it personally. And, actually, they could have. I put my old Pokemon Ruby up to the bottom of my DSi the other day and there is enough - if not more than enough - room to put in a GBA slot. I just don't get why Nintendo can make such great games, but be so stupid with things like that.
@toonlink, keep in mind that you also would have to move the internal components around to accept it. then you would have to make them smaller to fit, and the list of modifications nintendo would have to do is VERY long. All that would have raised the cost of the system.
