Hugo, can you help explain something? I haven't played the first one yet, but I thought I understood the boy was saving the fish. Now, in the pic, the fish is holding the boy captive? What?

Hugo, something you probably get asked a lot, but can you give us a bit of information about the indie game dev life? Like, how did you get into it, when did you learn to code, etc etc.
EDIT: Oh, and do you have any tips for people who might want to be an indie game dev?

@Odnetnin, supa and others - From what Hugo's said, it's a one-button action game, so unless you have to hold your DSi book-style, it'll probably use one of the face buttons, though it wouldn't surprise me if you could choose which button you used or if there were multiple action buttons that do the same thing (think the flipping action in MFC).

@SonicMaster - At this point, only Hugo (and whoever designed that piece of concept art) knows exactly what is going on, but at least from what I'm inferring, it's a role reversal-type thing. In the first game, Flipper was helpless and needed the boy to rescue him. So, I think it isn't that far off that Flipper somehow got a robot exoskeleton and is now saving his owner's butt in Flipper 2. That what I think, at least.

Yes, that very logical! That's exactly what I was thinking after I saw the concept art. Sort of like Buzz Lightyear turning around and saving Woody in Toy Story 2.

Birdman13 is correct.

It's a one button game, and many buttons feature the same action. Basically all you need to use is the A button and start button (to pause). The action that's under the A button is also copied under all other buttons (such as the R en L button).

About the story; yes Flipper needs to rescue his owner this time. I don't want to give too many story details at this time.. so you have to wait for that a bit

@Maxsh

I started programming when I was 9 years old. I got my first job in the industry when I was 15 years old
I'm not rich, and I will probably never be; but I can pay my bills while making videogames! every day is a blast!

I rented a very small office, and every day when I walk in, and I see my actionfigures and SNES on my desk;
I just start to glow and think "Unbelievable this is my life!".

If I had to tell you one tip;

DON'T EVER GO TO A GAME DESIGN SCHOOL!!
They are all bogus. They suck up your money and leave you with a useless paper!

If you love videogames, and you love to create them; go and create them. The first time I 'programmed' something
and saw the end-result on the screen was magical. Since that day I've been programming every day. EVERY DAY.

And the best thing; it doesn't even matter if you have talent. I'm not a math genius at all, but if you love something
and you do it every day, every single moment. You will get good in it!

Same goes for art; if you draw everyday, you will get good in it.

So that's my advice; do what you love, and it will all turn out good!

I see what you mean Hugo! I want to be a game designer, and I'm already making my moves towards developing my first game.

In order for Hugo to have begun programming at that young age in life he must have been massively good in math. I've been procrastinating and dumbing about trying to avoid math ever since I was 7 and I'm 21 now and no where near what I should be in math. I'm trying to change that and by the grace of God I hope I'll become massively good in math. I enjoy science, history and art but I know you need math to touch the stars. Keep me in your prayers guys. I need it in the math department.

@TokyoRed:

I wasn't good at math at all. But that's what I like about programming, the visual feedback. In school I always hated math because it seemed I put some numbers in, and some numbers came out. And I never really could figure out what I did wrong (when the answer was wrong).

But with programming you have visual feedback. For example, maybe you want to draw the character at the top right side of the screen, so you need to calculate the X,Y position. When you do it wrong the character will probably not end up in the right spot, so you can see you did it wrong.

Yes, visual feedback is KEY! I know math is important and I really want to learn it. It's just that I'm so defunk in the brain when it comes to math because I've been so absent from studying it in the past few years but now I must study it so I can my high school diploma and move forward with my life.

Seriously, visual feedback is a good thing and I'm more visual than anything so I can understand how you felt in school Hugo.

@Hugo - I'm interested in making a game and I want to ask, What program do you recommend for making games, and Which version is the best for it? Java, C++, Visual Basic? I was only a Flash user before but now I want to start learning another programming language. That aside, Your new game looks great from what I'm seeing.

@Odnetnin - Where did you find that pic?

Fancy a Karrot Cake?
