Topic: Flipper 2

I decided to open a thread for the discussion of Flipper 2 from Goodbye Galaxy Games and Hugo Smits! I'm happy that's going have the influence of comics and cartoons of 1990's according to the interview on the front of NintendoLife.com BTW that concept art reminds me of Earthworm Jim, of which I've never played sadly. (T_T)

@Hugo - A couple of questions you probably saw coming 1. How much of it has been completed so far and 2. When do you expect it to get released?

It's a hard question to answer; code-wise most of the gameplay is implented. But there are still (almost all) levels to be made, as well as graphics/tilesets. I hope it's going to be done around feb (that's not a release date, since it still has to go through lotcheck and stuff).

So if Flipper 2 is released in February or March of 2011 will it be 3D? As the Nintendo 3DS is set to be released in February/ March of 2011?

@TokyoRed - Sorry if I'm bursting your bubble, but since Hugo is developing this one for DSiWare, unless he ports it (which, along with the original Flipper, might make for a nice combo pack), it won't be coming in 3D.

Also, thanks for the heads up about the time Hugo, and keep us posted on all things Flipper related!

But if our suspicions are correct, it will still be available on DSiWare through the 3DS Shop. No worries.

I don't think you can expect anything from me for 3DS for at least another year. It's not that I don't want it, but normally there's always a devkit shortage at the beginning and I just don't have the illusion that Nintendo is laying awake because Hugo Smits from the Netherlands doesn't have a devkit yet

Mr. Hugo Smits, will Flipper 2 also have pirates in it? Or shall we see entirely new characters? Will there be dialogue between the the characters?

I just hope it's longer and has a time-attack.

Yes, seriously! The first Flipper was waaaaaaaay to short. The game was so short that at the end I was actually thinking "What?!?! That's it? That's the end? It can't be!"

There aren't many DSiWare games that can persuade me to dig out my oh-so-precious wallet for them, especially when there are so many other games I want. You're gonna have to make a brilliant game, Hugo (gimme at least 15 hours of replay value and we have a deal).

Well LuWiiGi, Mighty Flip Champs, Zenonia and Shantae: Risky's Revenge changed that for me. I used to think the same way as you as well.

In fact the only thing I did spend money on that wasn't a retail game was Maple Story but now I'm a faithlful user of DSiWare although I'm cutting back now to save up for the Nintendo 3DS you can rest assured I'll be downloading Flipper 2.

@TokyoRed All the games you mentioned were on the 'few DSiWare games I'll shell out for' list. I have MFC and I really want Shantae and Zenonia. I also want AA Climber and Thorium Wars among others, plus I already have 20 DSiWare games which I've played to death. So I guess my statement was wrong. What I mean is that there are so many great games around on other platforms that it's hard for me to prioritise DSiWare. But I'm sure Flipper 2 will be great anyway.

How well did the original sell?
I know you can't give out numbers, but are you rolling around a bed of money or are you just pleased?
